INTI CREATES shows once again that they are the masters of 2D action side scrollers. The weapon customization system offers ample options to make the game as easy (or challenging) as the player wants .The pixel art is top notch and most of the boss battles have patterns that are fun to learn. This time, Mighty Number 9 really stuck the landing and I wish it got more attention.
When this game was released I remember the reviews weren't as positive as the first two, but I found it to have a refined gameplay, a nice skill tree that allows for fun combat encounters and great map design. The only thing I really disliked were the excess of collectables (something that applies to almost all games likes this) and the writing (specially in regard to a big event at the beggining that should have a much bigger impact on the story).
Behold the second coming of Chrono. Blah blah love letter blah blah golden era jrpg blah blah. Jokes aside, while the game is clear about its inspirations, it does stand on it's own without resorting to nostalgia. It masterfully ticks all the box of what makes a great rpg. The story is really well-paced and starts strong. The characters are interesting and have their own arc inside the story. There are interactions between the party members that adds to the flavour of the game. The battle system allows for challenging encounters that actually needs strategy (buffs and debuffs really makes the difference). The graphics and sounds are also amazing. Overall, this is a incredible experience and a must-play to every rpg fan.
