Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
ok i don't really like much about this game and its story is kinda dogshit, but i'm a little confused how it's anything like a joss whedon work (i say this as a very ardent firefly hater). if anything it's somebody trying to copy kojima productions' homework and fumbling it (platinum's combat design also deserves most of the ire it receives, even if the compounding amount of contradicting systems in rising ends up being kinda funny)

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Madame Flurrie appreciator!!! Really fun read. I think the beauty of TTYD is kind of accepting the good with the bad, but I think the remake has added a lot of good!! The dialogue has been touched up in a lot of places where a lot of the misogyny and uncomfortable shit has been toned wayyyy down. But yeah, fuck, Peach is a little disappointing at times even if they did make her dialogue feel better? The whole helpless dealie at the end doesn't help it, that's one of my least favorite things that Nintendo falls back on for forcing her into a distressing situation where she needs to be rescued. Also disappointing how despite being the first fully textual trans character in a Mario game, Vivian doesn't get as much as interesting dialogue as she deserves (still my fav partner tho).
You also really touched on a lot of the things that make it my favorite Paper Mario, like the variety and aesthetic of the locales, the detail and texture of all the interactions, the way the chapters flow (outside of the backtracking), the characters! And honestly even if it does get repetitive, the next time you play through it ends up being more enjoyable with a lot of that acquired knowledge. Like going through a play you rehearsed previously, you know all the lines so much the next time that you avoid a lot of the stumbling and confusion (also you've def made me wanna replay Super Paper Mario, I've been putting that off for too long).
