I think this game is funny because they yassified guitar hero and made something to compete with lego rock band of all things. This game's existence is weird to me because they clearly saw that a lot of kids were playing guitar hero, and chose to target that demographic when the regular guitar hero games were already perfectly E-rated. I guess they wanted to appease super protective parents that didn't want to see their kids play metallica or something. Since this game is more for kids, the setlist has a lot more pop music than your ordinary guitar hero, yet I didn't know quite a lot of songs in the setlist now and certainly wouldn't have as a kid, so that's a bit strange. The game makes a big deal about how they got taylor swift, no doubt, and the maroon 5 singer in as guest characters, so they likely blew most of their budget on that ngl. Even though the setlist has some bangers in it, the beatmaps are boringly easy. If you are a serious guitar hero player, this won't do anything to satiate you. If you HAVE to play a "family friendly" guitar hero, play lego rock band instead.

this really do be how yuji naka ended his legacy tho... game is frustratingly misdirected. unlike a lot of bad games where theres very clearly nothing put to them creatively/no effort put in on a design level, this game really feels like they tried to do something. there is something here with this game, but just in the way they executed it they buried those decent ideas and concepts behind so many odd design choices and storytelling decisions. I wish that yuji naka ended his career with a bang, but i guess some things just be this way

holy shit the vibes!!! I held off on playing this for the longest time mostly because I heard from so many people about how bad and disappointing this game was, how the cornering is too slippery, and how the US version messes everything up. I went into this game expecting the worst and ended up finding a hella fun video game. Yes, the cornering is slippery, but I got used to it very quickly and was drifting around like nobody's business. Only mild complaint would be that the game is a bit on the easy side, but other than that I absolutely loved my time with this game. If you like arcade racers, cel-shading, and vibes, this game is absolutely worth a play.

Seeing as I don't own a PS5, I went to a friends house to play through this considering it is the only title on the system I am actually interested in, and I wasn't going to buy a 500 dollar system with no other games I currently care about on it just to play a small little tech demo. Anyways, the game is a continuation of sorts from Astro Bot Rescue Mission (and that game bangs hard). You do all the same things you do in that game in this game, just not in VR. The biggest takeaways of this game really were the amount of love and care put into it regarding the playstation brand, as well as the new funky things they do with the controller. Firstly, the attention to detail. This game was made as a sort of celebration of all things playstation, and as such, has various references to all sorts of popular titles throughout the console line, and as a fan of the legacy of playstation, it was incredibly charming. The main collectable of the game are various playstation accessories, all rendered in immaculate detail. While the references were certainly fun, it does also kind of make me sad that most of the series referenced in the game are pretty much abandoned in favor of your typical generic western cinematic action games these days. Damn sony. Cool point number 2 is the controller gimmicks. This game does a lot to showcase the new rumble features, the new haptic triggers, the more sensitive touchpad, and the gyro of the dualsense controller, and it is all very cool to use. The rumble feels better than the joy con HD rumble, the haptic triggers are very interesting and I hope more games actually use the feature (yet holding down a trigger that's shaking does feel really weird). All in all, a very fun little time. Has the japan studio vibes that modern sony is so very much lacking in these days. If you are a playstation fan, you should give this a shot for sure on your shiny new PS5.

Treasure never misses as per ususal. NGL tho there are a few things the game does near the end that I wasn't particularly a fan of. The game has a lot of action in it and gives a lot of movement options that make the game feel like a pesudo-sequel to alien soldier (which is probably one of the highest compliments i can give to a 2D action game). However, due to the fact supers are easy to farm you are mostly going to be relying on spamming arm cannon lasers to deal with most encounters, and the invincible dash move isn't nearly as snappy as the one in alien soldier. You also have to play through the game twice for some reason, with a whole bunch of cryptic secrets that are mandatory to see the true ending, so get a guide ready. It felt like padding, but I think the padding was probably done on the behalf of hitmaker, the co-developer of this game, whereas treasure did the gameplay front, which is indeed kickass. This game is still something you should try if you enjoy action games, but it just didn't hit the same super huge highs as treasures other 16-bit games.

highkey the best game on PSVR its better than most mfin mario games. Utilizes the VR headset in a lot of ways that other VR games don't even think of trying. So many games in VR think only in the mindset of being in the first person where you are someone, and while that definitely works with a lot of games and helps with immersion, you can really utilize VR to immerse the player in more ways than just that. Remember how when super mario 3D land came out on the 3DS, everyone was talking about how having 3D in that platformer made it easier to tell depth and where things are in the game? Astro bot takes that concept to a whole other level by fully immersing you in the 3D platformer worlds that you explore, all while also making you yourself an active character in the game as well as astro bot himself. I think that this game pushes so many boundaries on what is possible with both 3D platfomers and VR as a medium to play games on. If you have a PSVR, you HAVE to play this game. It's basically a shining example for what VR can do for immersion in games, and its done so masterfully.

Physically impossible to dislike. this game is extremely hype, and likely a little bit of "all style no substance" but frankly I'm aight with that. You don't have a lot of moves per character, and everyone is flying so you can jump downwards which is a little weird. Despite that the action that happens on screen is so over the top and the character designs are so exaggerated that I can't help but love this game. I don't think this games gonna be at any esports event anytime soon, but for dumb fun with friends you can't do much better. Fair warning though: this game has ludicrous amounts of flashing lights, so if you have sensitivity to that kind of stuff I'd steer clear. Hype as this game is, its not worth gettin a seizure over, ill tell you that much.

Asteroids is a genuine classic and one of the first games to gain widespread popularity, and for good reason. It's just you, one screen that loops, a bunch of space rocks of varying speeds and sizes, and the occasional UFO that shoots at you. All you have to do is survive. It is certainly simple, but the amount of spatial awareness combined with solid understandings of the control mechanics make the game surprisingly deep to score in. There's no ending or any sort, so it's not really like this is a game you can ever truly "complete", but the fact that despite that I still want to put more quarters in the machine to get better and score higher definitely shows its quality. The game also looks fantastic when played on the original cabinet, with the very sharp and glowing vector lines across the screen. Definitely worth a try even if its just to see where things (sort of) began

wahey the SNK boss syndrome wasn't that bad with this one. no yuri tho (boooooo). Gameplay-wise this is much more refined since this game came out a long time after the first 2. Also has GOREGOUS neo geo backgrounds. Definitely the best in the series.

this is pretty much more of the same from the first game. theres still a lot of jank, and the funny taunt mechanic is still here. You can play as yuri though, which makes this better than the first one IMO but thats still not saying much since gameplay is pretty much the same as game 1. Also has a bad case of SNK boss syndrome, so avoid if you are a lone fighting game wolf like myself

this games jank as hell, but it do be an early neo geo title so i'll forgive that. Has a wack system where your special moves are tied to a meter that goes down for every special move you use (likely to avoid spamming...?) but if you taunt at your opponent, it lowers THEIR meter, so you can spam taunt in order for your opponent to not be able to use any of their special moves, which is very funny. However, this game is not save from the most common problem infecting every neo geo fighter and thats that the single player side of things is shit and i dont have anyone to play this with so I can't really say I enjoyed playing this all too much.

2017

well this was disappointing... I mean I guess I should have saw it coming due to the fact that this was such an early release for the switch, but theres just not a lot of content here besides just fighting. And while the fighting is indeed fun, there will eventually be a point where you feel like you've had your fill, and when that time comes, what's really left for you? Nothing. They updated the game to include more characters and arms to use, but that doesn't solve the fundamental problem of the game not having anything to do besides fighting. Maybe with a sequel or something they could make a story mode or some more interesting game modes or larger battles on bigger maps with more players or something.

remember when the 3DS was so new that this was considered a killer app? neat for the time but its honestly just a gimmick that nothing except kid icarus actually improved on... I definitely would reccomend at least checking it out since it comes with your 3DS for petes sake and it has enough charm to give a shot. If you don't have the cards just use a JPG on your phone it works just as well

It was pretty much the first game but with some neat quality of life enhancements such as the ability to name beacons as well as having a lot more interesting setpieces. However, either I completely couldn't find any new places to explore or the world was WAY smaller than the first game, so take with that what you will

I have a hard time giving this a proper rating because its less of a game and more of a relaxing piece of art. Definitely not for everyone but I would reccomend at least swimming around for a few minutes to just chill out and look at fish, they are our friends. Probably one of the first vibe games, but don't quote me on that.
