This game took a bit to get used to because it feels very floaty, but once I did I had a fun time with it. There are collectathon sections, linear platforming challenges, some monkey ball elements and even car and submarine sections. It mixes things up enough to keep things fresh. It even has a nice little story too that hits on some surprisingly heavy themes like bullying.

A fun way to spend a few hours.... plus you play as a gooby giraffe with a jetpack so what else could you want?

This game is a huge leg up over Spark 2, which I did not enjoy very much. While Spark 2 had open ended levels where it was easy to get lost, this game has amazing level design where it is always pushing you forward along with side routes filled with hidden collectables to find.

Cities, forests, factories, an airport, volcanos, beaches, and even levels in space with lo gravity this game has incredibly fun creative levels. Along with the usual Sonic Adventure style stages it also has challenge stages focusing on each ability, missions where you have an open area and need to find coins, time trials, and even come car and helicopter stages. The game also feels so good, the movement is speedy but easy to control with the addition of the wall jump/run and homing attack.

The combat is much improved, giving you the ability to perform combos and buy upgrades. The boss fights are also a lot more creative than they were in Spark 2, though this aspect of the game is still my least favorite. It is not a huge negative this time at least. I have nothing to say about the story, I accepted half way through that I had no idea what was going on so I just gave up on it...

All in all a great ending to this Sonic inspired trilogy!

I never considered myself a Wario Land fan (hoping to replay them soon to see if that’s changed in the last 10 years) so going into this game I was a bit skeptical. I could tell that it was a great game based off the visuals and presentation, but would I actually like playing it?

The answer was quickly found to be a resounding yes.

Taking that Wario Land formula and mixing it with lighting fast movement and fun abilities/transformations that vary by the level is a stroke of genius. The movement was super fluid, trying to keep yourself going at max speed to get through enemies and obstacles was a fun mini challenge in the game made even better with the wall running mechanic.

Each level has 5 cages to find that are essential to progression but they aren't so hidden that it was ever annoying, I never had to redo a level to progress to the next world because I was finding 99% of them just naturally exploring the stages. They do have 3 extra secrets and a special item in each level which provide a little more challenge if you are looking for that, I ended up finding a good amount and can see a lot of appeal to finding more on another run. My only complaint with the game were the boss fights, they weren't bad per se but I did not enjoy them very much.

All in all a great game I would highly recommend to any of my fellow platformer fans.

Easily one of the best Kirby games, I got super addicted to this one. The idea of putting the Kirby gameplay into a metroidvania style game was really clever and worked well. If they revisited this formula with a better map systems and dug a little more into the idea of upgrades like a true metroidvania it could be really special.

This game is a short and sweet 2 hour action thrill ride that I couldn’t get enough of. The gunplay is lightning fast with tons of different ways to attack situations: 4 guns with 2 firing modes each, a sword, deflecting and parrying, and a slew of telekinesis powers. Having so many options keeps the game feel fresh and fun through the whole roller coaster of a campaign. Some very cool set pieces were appreciated too, though the stealth section left a lot to be desired. The story was…. there? Definitely was an afterthought but the game was so fun to play I didn’t care.

A solid 2D Sonic game, nothing spectacular about it but it was a fun time. Getting to swap between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream makes for some nice variety.

This game has such an awesome gameplay loop, it is very simple to understand but tough to master. The game doesn’t take it easy on you either, the last handful of stages are truly brutal and will put your skills to the test.

This was one of the few major Sonic games I never played before so I decided to finally give it a try. The game starts out great, the opening stage playing as Sonic is very fun and was a great evolution of the 3D Sonic gameplay at the time. Then the werehog hits... and it wasn't that bad honestly. It was a light/worse version of God of War but it was pretty inoffensive. So I was feeling this game as I was plowing through stages.

Then I hit a road block and realized I would have to go back and find Sun and Moon medallions... okay okay I can make. Using some YouTube videos I was able to get through these roadblocks without too much issue. Continuing on the game was still fun, but the Sonic levels were getting a bit more frustrating with the camera and controls, with the levels punishing you for going fast?, and the werehog levels were getting longer and more drawn out. Nothing horrible but not as good as before.

Then the final section is just horrendous. Excruciating platforming with the wonky controls, an even more reliance on lightning fast QTEs with extreme punishments for messing up, and some long painful fights as the werehog where I encountered multiple glitches. I was just happy for this game to finally end at that point, which was sad given a lot of the rest of the game did at least have some charming fun to it.

First time really playing this game (other than messing with it as a stupid kid and never progressing) and I can say I understand all the love. The game is very fun and holds up well minus a few little nitpicks, such as the map and some of the navigation, but nothing major enough to detract from the enjoyment. I still think I prefer 2D Metroid but that doesn’t mean I didn’t really enjoy my time with it.

This was an interesting gaming experience. At it's core this is a fun unique game with an amazing vibe that I got pretty into, finishing the game in two sittings.

However, this game does not hold up very well at all. Collision issues, confusing map, moving itself is a challenge, and trying gain speed and keep momentum is a struggle. Also the fact you are trying to spray tags while tons of enemies you can't do anything about gets too be very frustrating.

But somehow it was still a fun time (when I wasn't hating it!), so if you can handle some intense rust there is fun to be had here. I would be interested to see how the sequel holds up.

A fun 2D action game with a unique style of combat. You play as an adept (think mutant from x-men) soldier who was the ability to create an electrical energy field around him. This is your primary way of dealing damage, but when in this form you are vulnerable. As soon as you drop it you are basically invincible (until the shield meter is empty) so the game is all about the risk/reward of being aggressive with the shield.

It also has a very nice presentation of the story, with dialogue popping up as you play so you aren't taken away from the action for very long. Pretty neat story about taking down an evil corporation, not particularly inventive but solid enough nonetheless.

I enjoyed my time with this throwback style title. The game's structure is the biggest selling point to me, it harkens back to the action/adventure/platformers of the PS2/early PS3 generation which is a huge pro for my gaming tastes. Traversing the beautiful areas, solving simple puzzles, and engaging with combat was a good balanced gameplay loop for me.

The combat itself isn't anything special, it is a little boring at first but once you unlock more abilities I think it gets to be pretty fun. The game is super beautiful and tells a simple, though forgetful, story about a girl who can see spirits and help them find peace. If you miss this style of game like I do then it is worth 5-7 hours of your time. Solid but won't change your life... nothing wrong with that!

Unlike the first game in the series this one is a clone of 3D Sonic, and it does gets a lot of things right. The platforming stages have a good sense of speed and variety, especially the later half of the 14 stages. Playing through these stages is a lot of fun and it’s impressive how they nailed this totally different gameplay style.
The Kirby style power absorption is back but relegated to the background which was disappointing to me. That ties into the biggest issue with the game which is the combat, the bosses are all essentially the same mindless combat loop. None of the power ups change the combat in any meaningful way, and the bosses don’t change enough to force you to make up and strategy beyond punch and block.
Fun game if you are into 3D Sonic, just don’t expect anything groundbreaking (I couldn’t even tell you what happened in the story).

If you are a fan of 2D Sonic games this is right up your alley. It captures the speed of those classic Sonic games while adding in a weapon/transformation system like Kirby that makes the light combat and boss fights more fun. There is also a lot of entertaining setting, enemy, and obstacle variety throughout the 15 stages.

You play as kiwi's running a post office, what more could you want?
A fun, chaotic co-op game similar in spirt to Overcooked. It consists of 4 major types of minigames but each time you play them the stages are drastically changed so they always stay fresh.
