(in This review I will Only mention Wily Tower, The Three Games I have Already Reviewed)

Well... The Wily Tower is a Good extra Content for The end of The Game 4 Bosses, Fun stages... Honestly Nothing to Complain about The only "Bad" thing is That the Bosses are Very easy You can Defeat them All easily Just using the Buster.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars is an interesting collection of 16-bit remakes of the first three Mega Man games, featuring an equal amount of improvements and bad changes.

The most obvious change are the graphics and they are a mixed bag for me. On one hand, there are some really nice backgrounds that the first Mega Man in particular benefits from, but then there are the character and enemy sprites, which I didn't like nearly as much as the Iconic NES counterparts. Worst of all are the larger enemies, which have weird and ugly shading.

Gameplay is mostly identical to the originals, however there are occasional small changes, some of which I liked and some of which I didn't.
For example, the super arm's throwing arc was changed so that when fighting Cutman I would throw the rocks directly over his head, which led to me finding out that for some reason Cutman no longer takes extra damage from the buster which was a little annoying.
Better are changes for some of the more unfair or difficult to dodge bosses like Fire Man or Wood Man and the biggest positive of this game was how much more forgiving the Doc Robot stages in Mega Man 3 are.
But I think it's a missed opportunity for them to not change some of the more obvious shortcomings, like the parts where you need a certain weapon to progress, but when you run out of energy you have to farm or get a Game Over.
Just place some respawning weapon energy at these points and it would make it so much better.

Then there's the new Wily Tower mode, which was a nice and unexpected bonus for beating all three games and allows you to choose a set of weapons between all of them for a series of new levels that combine elements from across the three games.
The weapon balance could be better tho as I obviously chose the metal blade for each level and they could have made it so that more enemies from 1 and 3 are resitent against it, but that wasn't the case.
Over all nothing to crazy but it was enjoyable.

As a fan of the first three Mega Man games, I think its worth playing through Wily Wars at least once, but I prefer the originals.

it's pretty alright. don't like the mushy controls, don't like the music conversions, don't like most of the difficulty adjustments. the core of these games is still really fun, and that's been preserved, but I'll probably just stick to the original versions now.

The Genesis era of gaming will always hold a very special place in my heart so this was a really novel way to re-experience these classics. It felt like a very concentrated burst of nostalgia even though I (technically) haven't played this version of the games before. Wily Tower was a complete surprise for me and it put a huge smile on my face, I love fanservice and being pandered to!!!!!!!

It's a really faithful remake of 1-3 so I can't really fault it for that, tho it would have been nice to have some of the 4-6 improvements (at the very least them be optional). I didn't like not being able to open the weapon menu while a bullet is still on screen, don't remember that being a thing in NES 1-3 for all the weapons.
The Wily Tower was a fun addition! Being able to customize which skills you are equipped with is nice.

I mean, it's Mega Man 1-3 again. It's nice to see the games again, prettier, the Mega Drive's bangin' soundchip covers of the stage themes mostly hit, and this is easily my favorite way of playing Mega Man 1 if I have to play it.

There's not really much to say, it's the 94 equivalent of an HD remake of the first 3 NES games, they're pretty cool and you should try them out if you like Mega Man, or don't want to deal with some NES jank.

Cute remakes of these games and the Wily Tower is fun little mode, but I think I'll just stick with the NES versions of these.

Looks worse, sounds worse, and plays worse than the originals. Wily Tower's kinda neat but not worth more than one playthrough. The whole time I was wishing I was playing the NES games instead.

Lots to say on this one. Without getting too in-depth, this is unfortunately mostly a downgrade over the NES/Famicom originals due to delayed controls and an objectively worse buster. I will be returning to this for a big video review at some point, but not now.

A Mega Man version of Mario AllStars. Improves some elements of the first 3 Mega Man titles especially Mega Man 3.

THE WAY to play the OG 3 if you aren't already attached to the 8-bit look. did they make an upgrade of 4, 5, and 6? need dat. also the password theme on this was dope asf.

I fucking hate every second of this miserable trainwreck (except the tower, that was pretty cool)

Played and cleared the remake of Mega Man 3 on a Sega Genesis at 2D Con 2022, and made it to the Yellow Devil in MM1 on Sega Genesis - Nintendo Switch Online. I will eventually try to reach and clear Wily Tower mode on Genesis Plus, using a ROM hack that reduces the horrific slowdown.

A good remake of the first three Mega Man titles. The updated graphics look amazing and make the stages look more colourful and vibrant than ever.

They didn't need to add extra content, but the extra Wily tower campaign is great considering it mostly uses old level objects. The original music for this mode was incredible too. One of the more underrated MM soundtracks.

It's okay, but the input delay seriously drags it down and it makes these games a lot more frustrating than their NES counterparts.

The Wily Tower was decently fun though.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars is a compilation of the first three NES games remade for Sega's 16-bit system. All three games have been rebalanced, everything looks more detailed than its NES counterparts, and re-arranged music to have that Genesis feel. For a while, North Americans had to result to reproduction cartridges and emulation because it was only released on Sega of America's discontinued service, the Sega Channel. This service allowed you to play Genesis games online while also bringing over three Genesis games exclusive to the Sega Channel, and The Wily Wars was one of them. Thankfully that has now been fixed with its re-release on the Sega Genesis Mini (which I played for this review) and more recently in 2022 to the Genesis Nintendo Switch Online service. Now more people than ever can experience this lost classic on modern devices and see how Mega Man was translated on a non-Nintendo console. For this review, I want to talk about my experience with these three games, so I'll try to keep it brief

Mega Man:
I like this one surprisingly enough, coming from a guy whose second least favorite Mega Man game is the first one. I was competent enough into beating the game without using save states, and as someone who has replayed 1-5 this year, I feel proud of myself for this one

Mega Man 2:
I found this to be the hard one out of the three. Robot masters can take many more hits even with their weaknesses. I did struggle near the end of Wily Castle and unfortunately had to use save states to get through Stage 5. Other than that, I had no such issue with the rest

Mega Man 3:
This was another surprise to me because I found this to be the best out of the Genesis trilogy. Out of all three, I found this to have the most changes in its difficulty balance, making the game much smoother for me to play through, unlike its NES counterpart. It's funny how I came from disliking it in the NES version to liking it in the Genesis version

As you can see, I found myself having a solid experience with these three games overall. Though I did find myself having to make some tighter jumps with enemy projectiles like Guts Man's boulder in Mega Man 1, and Wood Man's Leaf Shield in Mega Man 2; don't know what that was all about. I found the music to receive mixed receptions from those who played the game; some people liked it, and some people hate it. As a fan of video game music, I enjoyed listening to the 16-bit renditions of classic songs, and was pleasant to the ears

Each game now has a save feature to mark your progress, which is great for MM1 because there was none in the NES original, so I appreciate that addition. One new addition that they added to The Wily Wars is Wily Tower. After completing the three Mega Man games in the collection, you will unlock a brand-new scenario featuring brand-new levels and three new robot masters to defeat. What's exciting is that we can mix and match weapon and support abilities from Mega Man 1, 2, and 3 to take with us into battle and can be swapped out between stages, allowing a great deal of fun experimentation within these original stages. While I was a bit bummed that this mode was brief and only took about half an hour for me to beat; I can't deny that I had fun while playing this mode and this will be the biggest draw for those who played The Wily Wars before

Mega Man: The Wily Wars is what I consider the Super Mario All-Stars of Mega Man. These are solid remakes, and while by no means replaceable of their respective counterparts, this is more centered for the curious who wants to experience Mega Man's outings on Sega consoles. I recommend this to any Mega Man fan who wants to give this compilation a shot

The game looks great… the music is awesome… Wily Tower was pretty cool???

I don’t have much to say, I’ll just stick to the NES games via the Legacy Collection.

It got better! Idk what to say I just actually like this port now. Probably better than the NES versions, 3 especially.

Controls have an input delay that makes the whole experience don't feel snappy as the NES version.

You know what? I really loved this compilation.

It does not only feature the very first three titles completely remade for the occasion, fixing a lot of bugs and visual glitches along the way; it also includes "The Wily Wars" which is an entire new game with three new robot masters and a new Wily Tower that is fantastic.

The music is beautiful too; of course, the NES one will always be the iconic one, but what Capcom did with the Yamaha YM2612 was nothing short of outstanding, and I especially like the new tunes in Wily Wars. The use of the synthetizer in them is simply exquisite—a chef's kiss.

Now, I do have some complaints.

First of all, the game features some really unexplainable slowdowns for the Mega Drive, considering this is the same console that runs Gunstar Heroes with no problems. Second, Megaman has this weird clippin effect when you land after a jump and forces you to tap the d-pad a second time to start moving again; you end up getting used to it, but the thing is, this shouldn't even be an issue.

Other than that, amazing compilation. I'd check it out if you are a fan of these games and have never experienced this remake.

megamans 1, 2, and 3 totally plagiarized from this game

Mega Man 1: pretty good, obviously better than the glitchy NES original.
Mega Man 2: not as good as the NES.
Mega Man 3: pretty standard and as nice as the NES.
Wily Tower: forgettable.

Individually, each game has been downgraded in visual style and music quality. All 3 games are also much laggier. However, it adds an awesome new mode called wily tower which remixes elements from all three games together

A nice way of playing the three original games, save for some odd graphic updates and the music/sfx not working very well with the genesis sound chip. Wily Tower is a great extra mode but I wish it were a bit longer, especially with the possibilities it provides.

It’s difficult to review a collection of 3 stellar NES games in a modern context where all three are readily available on every platform and hold up immensely in modern day context.

Most of the reviews I have read about this is how The Wily Wars fails to capture the original Mega Man trilogy faithfully, noting the lack of snappy tight controls and some compromises in the soundtrack. It’s a different system, so I would only expect discrepancies. In addition to being developed by Minakuchi Engineering who are responsible for the Mega Man games on Game Boy and X3 - they’re great IMO but aren’t the core Mega Man devs.

Visually the games have been updated with vibrant colours, a new sprite sheet and new backdrops. For some reason Dr Light and Protoman still have NES proportions, everything else has been resized to be bigger.

I found the game controlled fine, but I’m playing the game on an old HD tv that probably has lag I’m compensating for. I had a rare no-continues run of 1 and 3. Unfortunately I can’t beat the Wily stages in 2 without restarts. I felt the game was a little more lenient with the instant-kill spikes

The soundtrack is faithful to the original, but yes it is using the FM synthesis of the Mega Drive and not the typical 8-bit wavelengths of the NES.

What I did not know is The Wily Wars has a set of new stages, Wily Tower has 3 Boss stages followed by 3 Wily Stages which was a welcome surprise. The Bosses follow a mythical theme, there’s a Kappa, a mystical monkey and a giant pig guy.

These are fairly fun and they test your know how of the three games by giving you the choice of selecting your load out with a combination weapons from each Mega Man game. My only tip is to forget about Guts Man weapon like the devs did when making this game, Crash Man’s and Hard Knuckle are recommended to get into hidden areas with E-Tanks and Lives.

Unfortunately I found the Wily stages sorta easy and the Wily fight easiest of the three games. An element comes down to weapon selection, which I felt I got very very lucky with - or I got by with popular choices.

My recommendation is to play the originals available in the Mega Man Legacy Collection. Unless you’re some sort of completionist die-hard who needs to experience Wily Tower on the Mega Drive - I hear there is a rom hack that compiles these into one NES game.

I’m giving a 4/5 because I feel people bash this unreasonably, it’s a Super Mario All Stars but on Mega Drive and deserves to be acknowledged as such.

pretty solid remake of the NES originals + some cool "postgame" content after you beat Mega Man 1-3

definitely worth checking out if you love early classic mega man, but also be afraid of it being such a faithful remake that some of the flaws were remade as well

my only real gripe is that i think the music has less punch compared to the NES original, but it's not bad imo

MEGA MAN MARATHON #2

Screw it I have like 8 or so of these to beat so I’ll run through em. I love Mega Man so I’m down. This was great. It’s a remake of Mega Man 1-3 (3 is one of the greatest games ever, def best NES game) and it’s good. I wish they had added the slide to 1 & 2 and the charge shot to all of them but I get why they didn’t, the slide would break MM1. This was fun tho it felt off at first but I think that’s just my muscle memory. So yeah. 10/10. Mega Man Xtreme is next.

Very good game. The secret Wily Tower at the end was very worth and one of the best parts of the collection. The secret levels are some of the best of the three games and really make this collection worth playing.

Better remakes of the NES original trilogy than people really say they are tbh. Either that or it's just my mega drive bias showing again. Since the game was a bit rushed there's a lot of slowdown and bugs in some parts so this doesn't really make a great replacement for the original 3, but it's still super cool to play just to see the NES mega man games in 16-bit. The Wily tower is just icing on the cake, allowing you to pick your favorite weapons from all 3 games and play some cool bonus levels with more bumpin music than you'd expect. It's on the NSO mega drive app give it a play

my preferred way of playing mega man 1-3. doesn't entirely replace them either as i like to flip flop between the originals and wily wars. there's some things i don't like such as the mega man 1 wily stage 1 weapon energy not regenerating from leaving the screen like the original game (i am aware this was changed due to mega man 2 and 3) so it makes that portion of the game dreadful if you fuck it up and can fuck up a deathless run or something idk. wily towers a cool bonus mode too idk.
