a very short but fun attempt to modernise Sonic Adventure, it's held back by some things like a bizarre story and boss battles that are literally mashing outside of challenge mode (and then they become mashing with good timing) but this really makes me wonder what someone with a larger scope than a one man indie studio could really do with this concept.

LIVE AND LEARN

This game is probably worse than I think but it scratches that itch, you know what I mean? Adventure Squad rise up.

Shows a ton of promise, but feels really unpolished. If LakeFeperd can build off of this for Spark 3, I think it could be fantastic.

Adventure styled sonic game that doesnt get the charm right but the gameplay is fantastic
worse than Adventure 1,2, and heroes but ill revisit it alot

A game that highly reminds me of the sonic adventure series. Great action, great must and great fast paced platforming

This game was an absolute blast, it's controls are good and the level design is banger. My only problem with it was the lack of power ups compared to the previous game, it would've been fun to have many weapons to choose from even if the ones it has are good anyways.

Simply put, better than most modern sonic games

the main stages are very fun!! but the boss fights aren't that fun to me, but that's probably because i suck at them.

Only two hours long and yet feels like it outstays its welcome after its first ten minutes. Being able to parry anything is funny but it does not have any ideas for its combat beyond it, and most of the time it feels like it doesn't know what to do with its level design aside from "part where you run forward a bunch, part where some optional enemies appear, part where you run forward a bunch, etc."

Love that it goes full Dragon Ball at the end. Spark3 is better tho. 2.5 stars

A perfectly fine Sonic Adventure-like. Controls really well but the level design is meh and the combat is annoying and unnecessary.

Speedrunning was always one of my favorite ways to return to my favorite platformers. Replaying levels to build a perfect route and then executing through it always had a zen-like flow. Spark the Electric Jester 2 is one of those games that perfectly embodies that feeling.

The movement really is the highlight here. You have the speed and momentum of Sonic Adventure with the movement options of Mario 64. Because you're so agile, speeding through platforms and finding hidden routes feels intuitive.

What doesn't mesh as well with the platforming is the combat and exploration. The game is designed in a way where you either blitz it to the end or fight to earn a score while exploring at a slower pace, If you take too long, all your points are forfeited. Although making a route to execute a score run can still be fun, it feels at odds with your progression.

Fighting regular enemies and bosses generally locks you into a one-on-one fight that usually boils down to mashing your attack buttons and timing parries, making most encounters feel repetitive.

Maybe I thought the combat heavily detracted from the rest of the game, but when the credits rolled around I felt like I had to play through it again, twice. Even if there was no sequel, I'd be fine with Spark 2 being its own thing with the flaws it has. It's not faultless, but it could absolutely be worth your time.

I've heard nothing but good things about Spark 3, but I wanted to play Spark 2 first since it's been on my radar. It's a little short, only 3-4 hours at most, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. I didn't go for 100%, but even after a full playthrough it feels like theres so much stuff I'm missing. The story is intriguing, but you'll be a little lost if you don't know anything about Spark 1, but you can still follow well enough, even if there's a lot going on, and it can be a bit "anime" at points (WHICH IS AWESOME). Can't wait to see how spark 3 expands upon the formula and continues the story

the main gameplay itself is fun and an interesting take on a 3D sonic-like platformer. a couple of the levels are oddly designed, bosses are just button mashers, and the story is just kind of a mess. I'm interested to see how this will expand with future installments as there's a lot of potential here.

big sonic fangirl, but i played majority thru this one and put it down because while they capture on the essence of boost sonic perfectly and the aesthetic (the boss music? ROFL) it just kind've comes out as inoffensive at best and kind've mediocre at worst, reminding me of sonic forces. for an independent, not big money team though this is so so promising and i bet spark 3 is gonna be fucking lit. i wish the best for them!

Although still a good bit of fun, Spark 2 feels nowhere near as polished as the predecessor due to the shift to 3D, and all of the challenges that come with such a change. What results is a game that's still well designed, but a lot of the fun comes from circumventing that design and finding ways to either break the game or skip through it for the sake of casual speedrunning, which I doubt was Lake's intention when programming the game. There's a good deal of enjoyment to be had here, but it's far more polarising and less inherently good than the first game.

Pretty fun in concept, the huge levels where you can blitz it are great but they're not all like that. Some levels with verticality like the space satellite one I got stuck on for an hour because the camera was just not cooperating with me.

The entire finale also just needed more time in the oven or more of a budget, as it was sorely lacking in a laughable manner.

But the good that is here is great and I would be glad to play a third game that refined it further.

nice little sonic adventure- like game, would be better tho without the forced combat stuff

story falls flat but you can go ridiculously fast and that is enough for me

It's my favorite 3D Sonic game of all time. Stages are actually long, movement feels good, It's just really fun to play.

Overall pretty fun, but a lot jankier than the first Spark, some levels can be really hard to navigate from the speed, a little confusing on layout, and overall the story didn't capture me at all, but the music and the aesthetics are REALLY solid, The combat is just as fun and wacky as the original, while I'd say it isn't as great as the first game, it's still a pretty good platformer and a good first foray into 3d, GOAT

Motherfuckers who say some shit like "Sonic team take notes" and show this game need to actually evaluate this game on its own merits because damn this is a fucking mess, genuienly shocked and kinda updset that I really wasnt a fan of this, I think the last game could have made for a cool 3d game but the level design is bland and boring and in the last stages which are straight up unfair with really bad enemy placement. Also the controls are really bad espically going at fast speeds and the combat is some of the mind numbing shit ever and this means that the boss fights are also really bad. The game also looks really bad but the music is really good, not as strong as the last game but still some bangers in here and the final boss was kinda cool just because I didnt expect what it is was going to be but as a boss its still not very good since the combat is still bad. I have a large amount of respect for the devs especially since this is mostly a solo project but I still think the game is bad doesnt really matter how many people worked on it I just found the game boring and dull with some heart in there.

The combat is so annoying, but the platforming is actually really good and very fun, for what it's worth. Just jump over every enemy you can. Problem is the boss fights are like half the game, and might as well not even exist. Also the story is a DeviantArt webcomic but that's good or bad depending on your perspective.

Pretty adequate Sonic Adventure 2 clone that gets the spped and scale 100% correct.

An improvement upon the first, but I really like Adventure style gameplay so maybe I'm biased. I didn't use the abilities as much this time, i liked whatever the red brawler one was and the green wind one tho. But in the end the combat just devolves into mashing. It's still fun and fast tho! Still def janky however.

This is both better and worse then Spark 1. You are put into hallways where you can dodge enemies. In the original game you would want to battle enemies cause they can sometimes drop health drops. In the sequel the enemies can just be walked past and you will have all of your health bars which is more then in the original. The Story is bad, the music is sometimes reused. the bosses are easier, the shield mechanic is broken. At least it's fun to blitz through the stages and the Edgy power up keeps your momentum with the triple air dash.
