a bit of a pain to play by nature of being an 80s coin op that desperately wants your money. it's badass tho and i can't think of any other game from the time with active dismemberment shit. that's pretty rad. exploitation movie ass game

Exidy: Make this as controversial as we can since we're nearly bankrupt.
Also Exidy: makes it TOO controversial that no one was interested in buying the arcade.

A load of shit and no mistake.

Played this on mame and thinking that this is wild for its time. I can see why the game caused controversy for its era. It's boring as hell of course, but an interesting curiosity.

i like the thought of a small child stumbling upon this at their local arcade and being traumatized by this. screams are very funny.

An early pioneer of violent disturbing video games. Really weird shift in gameplay and tone for the last two levels, but I enjoyed this regardless. I appreciate its experimentation and what it set out to achieve.

What the fuck did I just play.

EPIC!!!!!! dont play the arcade version if you have epiledsy

It boots up and plays. Beyond that, it's stupid shock horror (for the time).

A load of shit and no mistake. This has the dubious honour of being banned in several countries. They went after it for its gratuitously over the top gore, when they really should have been more angry about the gameplay.

It's a single screen shooter where for the first couple of levels you have to rack up the points by throwing bullets into various torture victims. Trying to kill them quickly, severing body parts, and pasting the walls with their blood. After those are dispatched you move on to more supernatural creatures such as zombies. They've even thrown in some bonus levels, just in case the "fun" wasn't enough.

This game did more damage to gaming's reputation than ET I swear.

Okay yeah I see why people were mad.

The arcade machine itself feels amazing but those first two levels are just like, pointlessly grotesque even by my standards. The last two are really charming, but the third level, Hallway, is really tight on targets for the time it gives by the third round of levels and takes a lot of the fun out. If the whole game had been more like stage four I think I would have really liked it.

Kind of interesting from a video game history perspective regarding how this was controversial at the time for its excessive violence and what have you, but from a gameplay perspective this is probably the shittiest game of I Spy that I've ever played.

stating the obvious: weirdly meanspirited. level 3 is like a scooby doo scene though. crazy how shooting a hand or smth lowers the "monster count" or whatever it was called i forgot already. interesting because of how early it was to the videogame gore party and how gratuituous the violence you commit is, combined. doesn't say anything nor do much but still notorious for that

The contrast between the first half of this game and the second half is really fuckin weird lmao. like levels 3 and 4 is like specters and vampires and other cool gothic shit while level 1 and 2 has you shooting defenseless naked humans chained up on torture gear while somber piano music plays like, what? huh?
also if you are like me and don't know how to set up mame but you want to play this then you are in luck because the internet archive has this available to play in your browser! https://archive.org/details/arcade_chiller
it's a fun lil 20 minute light gun shooter and it's cool to see something so graphic on 8 bit hardware lol

Probably the most brutal experience a kid from the 80s could have on their NES. Really wish someone would remake this sick, twisted little game with modern graphics and gameplay.
