Contra: The Alien Wars for Game Boy impressively translates the run-and-gun intensity of the series to a handheld format. It features fast-paced action, challenging bosses, and a satisfying arsenal of weapons. While the visuals are understandably less detailed than its console counterpart, and the lack of co-op is a bummer, it remains a thrilling and portable Contra experience that captures the essence of the franchise.

Holy shit, to be a Game Boy game it plays awesomely just like the NES cousins. Need to return to this, but yes, this is fully approved alright.

A step back compared to Operation C in most ways. This one feels way slower, less interesting, and just an overall lower-effort product than what came before. A curiosity no doubt, but it's a shame we got an outsourced Contra 3 demake rather than something that built upon what was already set.

A perfectly satisfying port for a young'n that wanted their Contra action on the go back in 1994. Now? No real reason to play through this, besides curiosity. For what it's worth, the devs did a fine job providing a bite-size Contra experience, much like Operation C. And despite the enemy designs being ripped right out of Contra 3, they're more interesting than the blocky bots in the previous GB title.

Not as good as Operation C, but still an impressive port. A lot of bosses had to be cut as well as the bike stage (which I'm actually okay with- there was just way too much RNG involved on anything past normal), leaving us with just five total stages this time. The awkward overhead stages are also back, but they're not nearly as awkward this time around since there's no scaling nor rotation since the gameboy lacked shoulder buttons.

It's also worth noting that, at least in my playthrough on normal, fire seems to be the go-to weapon here when it comes to DPS. Pretty interesting considering the best weapon in the SNES game was hot-swapping between two crushers.

This version does do one thing better than Contra 3 on the SNES in my opinion- it gives you an actual ending for playing on normal. One of my biggest gripes with the SNES version is that it forces you to play on hard in order to get anything other than a wall of text. I always thought this was incredibly stupid and pretentious (and I await your hate replies with open arms for saying it, lol).

For a Game Boy port of an SNES game, this is pretty good. All but one stage is here, the top down bits are actually fun now, and it plays alright.
At the very least, this is a good follow up to Operation C.
