This game sucks so much fucking ass, I'm not gonna wrangle any friends to play something this mid, regardless of version (this version makes multiplayer worse but that's irrelevant, neither version of the game is worthwhile).

It's fun to play a game from many years ago, but not having local co-op ultimately kills what could have been an amazing experience.

The cleaned-up visual presentation is nice, the bonuses are neat, and the game has aged kind of okay- however, the multiplayer in this version of the game is so poorly-implemented it's unforgivable, especially for a game designed with co-op multiplayer in mind. Truly a shame seeing as the original had its own design flaw being that GBA's were required for some stupid reason.

Wanna play with buddies on the couch? Too bad! Online only.

Wanna see otherworld events or explore towns with your buddies like in the original? Haha, tough shit.

Wanna play the whole adventure with a friend? Too fucking bad! Progress only updates for the host so you'd have to either just play through the whole game alone first or play through every fucking dungeon four times in a row.

Yeah- no, sorry but I'm not gonna fuck with a port that's multiplayer is actually a REGRESSION of the original.

great early pandemic game with the friday squad—we started the original together way back when & finally got to beat it! definitely needed a guide for some of the more obscure parts. i like when a game has hidden little corners, but that kind of exploration doesn’t mesh great with multiplayer. timing a spell together over discord is a team building exercise.

August 2020 was the summer of multiplay for a couple good reasons, and I was really hoping FFCC would cap the whole deal off with an amazing jaunt reminiscent of my favorite childhood days goofing off with my friends on the GameCube.

Online, unfortunately, is a swampy mess and there are so many things I was left wanting for quality of life experience. Hype for this one died quick. It's still FF Crystal Chronicles at its core, which is cool, just...a pain to organize and actually enjoy.

Overall: A disappointing HD remaster of a hidden gem for the Gamecube, Square Enix fails to modernize the experience for the current generation. Hardcore fans of the original might still find some fun to be had.

Pros: Worthwhile graphical update gives the game new life, updated soundtrack sounds great, online multi-player replaces cumbersome equipment issues faced with multi-player in original game.

Cons: Extremely long loading times, added voice acting adds nothing to the experience and is generally poor, online multi-player experience is not up to current standards of gaming, no updates to gameplay to modernize experience, combat is simplistic for today's standards.

Probably one of the biggested flawed gems ever.

The world building feels right out of a storybook, and the atmosphere is all over the place. Easily one of the best art styles of the Final Fantasy series and easily my favorite video game soundtrack ever.

I wish games like this still existed. Something that feels grand but distinctly like a total experimental passion project. The GameCube era was full of this stuff.

It's a shame that game can be a bit repetitive. It never really changes much from point A to B and it barely commits to being an RPG and a dungeon crawler.

If you had problems with it before, the remaster will make zero attempt to change any of that. The game looks pretty, and the music is remastered, there's some voice acting that is appreciated but it doesn't add anything. It's otherwise the exact same game.

It's not even remotely for everyone, but I love it all the same. Lot of memories.

i think this game changed me i'm not even joking

A wasted opportunity and one of the worst remasters Square Enix has ever produced. The multiplayer aspect (one of the fundamental parts of the game) has been completely screwed.

Just play the original on GameCube.

I adore the music, world, and art style of this game. I don’t love the repetitive gameplay. Maybe it works better as a co-op game.

Wish the online was a bit less laggy, but...

It's beautiful. You won't remember everyone you met in life, but you'll definitely remember some you have no idea why. Your life is important to the whole cycle.

I think maybe Chain of Memories drank from this drop of myrrh.

This game is great comfort food. Very slow-paced and simple in single player and fun goofing around in multiplayer. However, the design of the multiplayer is just as awkward now as it was in the original game.

It baffles me how dysfunctional the local / online play with friends is.

Note: If you want to play CC singleplayer, this is a great way to do it. Otherwise: Not only is this remake's multiplayer bad: It killed the reputation of Crystal Chronicles, a truly great game that deserved a resurgence and whose popularity would have done immense good for modern ARPG games. Broke my heart.

While there are definitely some things about this game that could have been improved and the lack of local multiplayer is definitely disappointing, overall I've had an absolute blast revisiting this game. The new hard mode dungeons are simple but aesthetically pleasing, and seeing this game remastered has made me tremendously happy. I'm glad I finally had the chance to finish the game after all these years!

I hate that they don't make RPGs like this anymore
