Man, it's 1997 and they are still making Bomberman for the Arcade? As if there weren't already-um... 13 Bomberman games on home consoles by 1997, at least this one is ok compared to the previous arcade games.
Alright, I'll point out the elephant in the room, it's a damn Arcade Bomberman game and it's easier than the home console games... I'm shocked...
Compared to Bomberman Arcade and Bomberman World Arcade this game is a breeze to complete! It only has 5 worlds with 7 stages each and... and... the easiest boss fights in the whole franchise?! I was not expecting that out of this game but my god it is quite a pleasant surprise, the bosses being piss easy really made me happy though it's still just a short and average Bomberman game that will eat all of your quarters just to play some multiplayer matches, so that's why I'm wondering why are they still making a Bomberman game that is very similar to its home console counterpart with no real gimmick to call it's own, it's a pretty odd release if you ask me.
If there's any Arcade Bomberman game you should play it would be that one but even then I'd still recommend something like Super Bomberman 4 or Saturn Bomberman if you just want to play Bomberman, like just buy a damn Super Nintendo because I know you won't buy a Sega Saturn it's 1997 nobody else did.
This game does have Slime Bomberman though which is definitely something that Saturn Bomberman can't say they have.

My review's based on the single player mode only. It feels like an arcade version of Bomberman in the worst way. By that I mean it seems hellbent on getting you to spend quarters by giving half of the enemies and bosses annoying gimmicks. To make matters worse, the exits are always hidden beneath blocks, which wouldn't be a problem if you weren't given a minimal amount of time to complete the stages (I don't like being rushed). On the bright side, the game's mercifully short and the ability to ride enemies is cool.
You must know this was of my first gaming experiences because of the arcade machine that was in one of my village's bars.
I never finished the normal mode... until todady. It was hard, not only its an arcade and it must take your money but you have your greatest enemy: you. Thats a clever manner to play: you can be so powerful by the upgrades but you can hurt yourself.
I really love this game but I can put it any higher either. The music is great.

yep its bomberman alright but on the neo geo. Has a decent soundtrack for the system that I believe are just really big song-length samples because screw it neo geo ROM memory is big enough to fit that in. Also looks really pretty compared to other bomberman games. At the end of the day though, bomberman is still just bomberman, and the fact that neo geo cabs max out at 2 players means that there's not a lot of the party shenanigans that I really love the series for.
Pink bomberman: "I hope we'll have flying cars in 20 years!"
Konami in 20 years: "We're gonna make you look like a senran kagura character in Bombergirl"

This is the absolute sweet spot of what I want in a Bomberman game. From now on I want every Bomberman game to be exactly this long, exactly this good-looking graphics-wise, exactly this challenging, and exactly this complex gameplay-wise. I'm grateful for this one if for no other reason than it finally convinced me I don't want to or have to play a different Bomberman game anymore that's been a pain in my ass for a while. It also helps that when you fight other bombers here, they don't have telepathy and can actually be beaten for once.
I suppose it would be frustrating to play if I were on a real arcade machine, but I'm not!
