An alright low-budget 3D platformer that is heavily inspired by 3D Mario games. The gameplay is fun enough even though the physics can be wonky, but the world and characters are uninteresting and lack personality. Characters that should have different personalities will say the exact same things as one another. The environments have a cheap, unpolished look to them. I got bored of the game quickly because I couldn't get invested in the world at all.

I would only recommend this to people who are very into collectathons.

heavily sm64 inspired game that knows its a heavily sm64 inspired game. doesnt do anything crazy but everything it does it does well.

tem suas tosqueiras mas em geral é um bom jogo, leva umas 10h pra fazer 100% e sinto que valeu a pena

Completed with all medallions, golden gears, fossils, locations and photos collected. All achievements unlocked except for New Game Plus. Inspired by classic 3D platformers of the likes of Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, Poi is clearly aiming at a more budget market, with a lack of polish in some area, but despite that it's a charming and enjoyable experience. Across five main stages, the game's core aim is the collection of medals, each presented at the level's start with a brief clue towards finding them - for those familiar with it, this is very similar to the approach of Super Mario 64. Supplementing these core objectives, a nice variety of supplementary collectibles are on offer, discovered in different ways - from coins/gems on open display to buried fossils and often well-hidden golden cogs.

Graphically the game is simplistic, with somewhat blocky environments and simple textures, but this is actually pulled off quite well with bright colours to create a feeling of fun. The game's budget nature is also seen in other ways, with somewhat generous (or perhaps 'poor' if you're feeling less kind!) hitboxes to enemies - at times a little frustrating - but on the whole the platforming gameplay is responsive and fluid. Particularly notable is the inclusion of a set of smaller levels with specific platforming objectives, which are among the game's most enjoyable and satisfying challenges - these serve as a perfect example and reminder of Poi at its most enjoyable.

Just a cute little platformer inspired by 3D classics such as Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie. It has nothing you haven't seen before, but it's fun. It works the way it should work and has a very decent level design.

A fun 3D platformer. The jumping feels great which is the big issues with these game typically. Lots of fun collectibles to find but I will say the fire physics are wonky. Very cheap too so check it out!

I went in with no expectations, having just randomly snagged this game in a sale after seeing the name in a list of modern 3D platformers somewhere. Man I wish I played it right away because this game was such a treat. It is set up like Super Mario 64 where it has stages which each have a good number of missions each, but adds in a bit of a collectathon vibe with numerous things to find that always scratches that 100% completion itch in my brain. The worlds are colorful and diverse even if there aren’t a ton, but tons of mini games and challenge modes add length and variety to the game which I always appreciate. The best part of the game is just the basics, the jumping feels great and the character feels super agile and fluid. You’ll be triple jumping, diving, long jumping, wall jumping and so much more in no time! Bosses feel a bit tacked on but I can forgive it cause I had a wonderful time.

It's ok. The stages and missions are just fine, it's nothing amazing really. It's average as fuck. A bit janky and the jump can be a bit annoying to get used to.

I'd been wanting a platformer inspired by 3D Mario for a while that stuck with the whole, big level with multiple goals that most 3D Mario games do. This is the one that nailed it! It is clearly an indie game so has it's issues but the movement system is NICE and the levels are NICE. I enjoyed it so much that I considered 100%ing the game but I DIDNT. I'd really like it if more of this type of platformer got made that was also as good as/better than this :)

I actually quite enjoyed it. At first I really couldn't get into it but it's got that old school vibe too it with very basic but vibrant models etc. the controls are actually amazing in my opinion with sliding and jumping in time to make you go faster. Ended up playing it twice for the extra end achievement on steam. overall a nice little collect em' all game with lots to do and explore

''Poi was a pleasant experience for me. I highly enjoyed exploring everything the overworld- and stages themselves had to offer, and the good variety in objectives to execute kept me coming back for more. This is further complimented by overall good level design with a good size, and how very smoothly the main character controls aside from weaker combat and boss battles. The inspiration of older 3D collect-a-thon platformers is clear which is definitely not unwanted, but it also keeps some of the bad design choices from that era; Being booted out of a level after collecting the main collectable, and also collectables having no purpose after a specific threshold other than unlocking the final reward. The latter wasn’t too much of an issue for me as I am a completionist and highly enjoyed doing everything the game had to offer, but the game itself didn’t do a lot to encourage me. If you’re looking for a collect-a-thon that makes you feel nostalgic for the past without minding the lower difficulty, then Poi is definitely a game I recommend!''
