this is a 3d rpg, made by squaresoft, but for KIDS. this must mean I am 100% a kid because I loved this game. the music is enchanting, the script is funny, and the gameplay is cozy. it is easy, which only increases the cozyness factor. threads of fate is a memorable experience, with only a few low points (ex: the platforming..............)

It's an alright action RPG. It looks pretty nice, too.

Not a bad game just not the game for me. The story seemed fun and quirky, combat wasn't too bad although expected levels of PS1 era difficulty. This action RPG just had a lot of platforming elements I wasn't aware of. Which I'm not good at, so I had to shelve the game. :(

I will miss Mint and her chaos.

It's repetitive to play through both stories and 3D platforming with a D-pad sucks. If this was a PS2 game with full analog controls and just starred Mint then I would love it, but it's really held back as a PS1 game.

I remember it had a unique aesthetic, a guy named Rodney and listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Threads Of Fate is simply too adorable not to like and is a breath of fresh air in the crowded scene. It is impossible to rate the game high because of the story, which is the only outstanding thing about Threads Of Fate, but everything else blends in appropriately. The game is almost a neat game for the things it fails to do, and the childlike charm and reminiscence of Chrono Trigger make Threads Of Fate another ranked winner for the Square tycoons.

Como un spin off de Kirby, pero otaku

I traded my copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for this with a friend when I was like 9, and I never played it until many years later. I always regretted that trade, UNTIL I played this. I was around 20 or so, and yeah, it's a rad little game. I was surprised how well it held up, and still felt relatively fresh to play. Mint's side of the story is lovely.

A game I wish we got a sequel to.

Pretty ok game where I slammed bitches with my axe and turned into a wolf. And I guess mint

+ Mint's character is unique and great
+ Game requires no grinding
+ Combat is simple yet challenging
+ Two stories connected yet separate
+ Two different play styles for both characters
+ Generally some great funny moments
~ Cheerful music
- Repetitive dungeons
- Directions can be sparse or non-existant
- Early 3D platforming
- Mel's mini games

This game should be so up my ass it legally counts as a colonoscopy but it feels like absolute hell and is not fun. Every would-be-neat level design gimmick they introduce is marred to unrecognizability by how unresponsive the movement feels. Likewise there are so many cool systems here that would be great in game that just felt better. It's a bummer! Making the game's second area a fucking maze is a bitch mood, game designers take note.

spoiler: the threads of fate all start to intertwine at the end until they spell out "wiener" in the sky. Then the planet blows up. Whoops.

What a cute little action RPG. Has one of my favorite characters I've seen in awhile. I have only played Mint's Story.

This game still looks pretty good nowadays. It's bright and colorful. Very stylized. And surprisingly well voice acted.

There are 2 main characters. You can choose either Mint or Rue. Mint is a magic/spell based character while Rue is a monster capturer. Both can be grindy. From what I have heard, Rue more than Mint.

This is a brain off game mostly. Kill monsters and get to the end of the level. Grind money and exp if you feel like it. As I said before it might be a bit grindy. But it's also short. The Lock on is not great. Nor is platforming, but remember it is a PS1 game. It does better than most games of the time. The combat is basic but fun.

Story is different for each character. They go to different areas at different times. They cross paths on occasion. The story is fine. Nothing special. Rue is boring but Mint, omg Mint is the best part of this game.

Mint is a little Gremlin of a human. She is just unapologetically selfish. She does not grow. She is funny from start to finish. Her interactions with other characters are great. Her voice actress did a fantastic job. Especially for it being a PS1 game.

The only other problem are certain bosses are frustrating. They are jank and have bad hitboxes. Sometimes being a bit too hard. Especially those that require platforming.

I really suggest playing this for Mint alone. She is great. Rue is fine as a character. But Mint is the star of the game. Def worth going through her story. I think if you beat both stories you get a final act or true ending. But I cannot bring myself to play as Rue. His story is different but all the areas are the same.

Worth a one story playthrough. Maybe one day I'll beat the other half. If I ever do, I'll update this.

Para un pueblo no está mal

ima be honest, i just got bored. It took way too long to get into gameplay and the little it showed wasnt very great. I get the little story is charming but my patience runs thin and it isnt interesting enough to hold my attention. Also i dont play games just to read a book. Games like final fantasy have a story but theres also significant gameplay.

One of the most overlooked Squaresoft games from the PS1 era, Threads of Fate is a comedic action JRPG with platforming elements whose main selling point is the outlandish cast, straight out of a Tatsunoko production. In particular Mint, one of two playable characters, is a spoiled brat of a princess who lost her birthright to the throne due to being a glutton and a selfish egomaniac, which sends her on a journey to find a magical relic which would enable her to enact her shakespearian revenge on her family and, subsequently, take over the entire world.

Mint is, in one word, hilarious: she is so incredibly daft, petty, careless, self-absorbed and violent that she manages to transcend being annoying and manages to be absolutely endearing. There is not a single situation she faces properly, not one conversation she goes through correctly and by the end she has learned absolutely nothing. She is probably one of the best protagonists ever appeared in a JRPG, a fact accentuated by the limited power of the PS1, which means low polygon models (despite that still very expressive) and no voice acting, which lends the characters a particular charm that is somewhat lost in games of subsequent generations.

The story follows suit, with a series of batty encounters with a rogue gallery of villains and allies who perfectly complement Mint's shenanigans. There are some definite Alundra 2 vibes here, and if you like that game you will be right at home here.

Sadly we are looking at a PS1 action game, so the flaws are somewhat inherent in the medium: the combat system is clunky and would have benefitted from a dodge button, which was sadly a mechanic that was yet to become standard in gaming. Ironically, had this been a standard turn based JRPG, it would have aged better than it has.

It's a game to be played for the story and characters, which will carry you through the flaws of the gameplay. You should definitely pick Mint as a first playthrough, as the other character, Rue, is far less interesting.

such a beautiful game in literally every single way until platforming gets involved

probably one of my favorite video games that I'll never finish. fuckin' dumpy-ass, janky gameplay-ass, more-cutscene-than-game-ass video game. I love it. all the worlds are as vibrantly crafted as dioramas. all the characters are such a treat to watch. there are so many unique events that can happen depending on if you win or lose a battle or are sensitive to time and location. so many traits I admire! but, it's just a bit too rough for me to want to see through to the end. thank you for everything Mint.

I love Mint more than anyone alive, dead or fictional and I'm so glad she never at any point stopped sucking ass

I'm so catastrophically depressed about all the sequel hook stuff that never produces an actual sequel I need more stupid sister adventure I can't live without it

also god it looks nice everything looks like it tastes good and animates like a funny cartoon I need more models that look like this

Great story and great music.

tiene muchisimo charm pero no estoy tragando los juegos con gameplay taaaaan basico, quizas lo retome simplemente hago """"review""""" para saber lo que he jugado

A masterpiece that few know about. I have an ambition to spread this game far and wide in the RPG-loving community.

Very charming PS1 game with fantastic visuals, fun story, fun characters, amazing music and textbook solid gameplay to hold it all together. This game has two routes, one for each playable protagonist but you don't need to beat both to finish the game. It doesn't get too crazy mechanically but the game is very finely tuned for an experience that hits the sweet spot between braindead and ball-crushingly difficult, staying enjoyable throughout its length which is also just right.

It's an action RPG... and hitting things is satisfying, more than a lot of games can claim! The routes will differ somewhat mechanically, Rue hits things with his pizza cutter and can transform into enemies to use their abilities while Mint hits things with her rings and large arsenal of magic which can be mixed and matched to your liking. The story's tone also differs a bit, Rue's is more serious and Mint's is more comedic, but they share those aspects in some form and neither will disappoint! Play this game!
