They say you can never go back. This title made me believe that. Everything about this title was a disappointment to me except for the presentation, but even that was just a small comfort as the mammoth amount of resources that were thrown into this game's development alone would account for that. This was just such a lackluster way to end what otherwise had the potential to be one of the greatest sci-fi trilogy's of all time. In a lot of ways I feel this game suffered from being the victim of excess, which is a shame because once the EA/BioWare thing was announced that was the very thing I was worried would happen the most with this title.

The climax of BioWare's trilogy is in short, the weakest game I've played from the studio so far. Not that it doesn't have its strengths, the base combat is decent fun with more interesting shooting galleries and area utilization, some of the conclusions of characters are genuinely well written, and the Citadel DLC gets nothing but utmost praise from me. However, it is an absolute clusterfuck when it comes to any other particular component. The story while conceptually from a good place regarding the crucible and the theme of cyclical generations working together to stop a greater evil, it is paperthin written and it's collaborated with terrible new characters and terrible explanations. The Omega and Leviathan DLC especially gets my utmost distaste, representing the worst parts Mass Effect 3 has on offer, including anticlimactic endings to decent concepts with strewn into paper mache characters.

That said, I still enjoyed the game overall if only for my attachment to the world already and how it still makes true on its characters. I'm also weak to romancing Garrus, sue me. If you have half a mind to get this game you won't do too wrong, but I push against anyone buying ME3 without investment in the series already.

I played this after the ending controversy died down, so I knew what to expect. With that expectation, I really enjoyed this game, even though it's still a drop from the previous two.

Single player kind of sucks, the ending's bad and none of the "fixes" they made to it did anything to improve it

that MULTIPLAYER THOUGH

ngl the opening mission felt FAR more disastrous to me than the (still rather disappointing mind you) last minute that drew so much ire from Gamers, to the point where I just flat-out put down the game for a bit despite loving the two games that came before, but the rest of it? At least IMO, a lot of it was just as incredible as 2 even if it doesn't reach that game's highest highs often.

Played ME1, ME2, and ME3 back to back to back and the fatigue hit me like a ton of bricks. Quit the game cold turkey and never went back.

Mass Effect 3 takes 1 step forward, and about 60 back. I don't really care about the ending and had it spoiled years before I ever touched the game - From the start, the story is the emotional equivalent of a limp noodle. Mass Effect 1 and 2 had me hooked to completion - I took about a month break in the middle of Mass Effect 3.

doesn't hit quite as well as me2, but still a blast to play! unfortunately i do dock some points for how bad the ending is imo, but that's not exactly an unpopular opinion. if you play, definitely invest in buying the citadel dlc because it's THAT good and works beautifully as a "before the last fight" kind of interlude + download the MEHEM happy ending mod!

Somehow, despite being a huge RPG nerd, I missed out on the Mass Effect trilogy as they were happening. I caught up with the game series maybe two months after ME3 dropped, and I played the ever-loving-shit out of ME1 and ME2, just salivating to catch up and be ready for ME3...boy how stupid did I feel?

I genuinely value the narrative/story of a game more than controls almost every single time...except for ME3. ME3 is a very fun game! Control wise, it's by far the best of the series and when I replay ME3, it's just to get back in and play that combat again.

Don't play this game unless you've played the first two, and even then, you'll still be disappointed by how it's story ends.

Didnt play it during the controversy, but it still finishes the story and doesnt completely fuck everything up.

steaming hot take: mass effect 3 (after patches) is better than 2. at least ME3 delivers on series goals (resolving the genophage, developing on the turians' military, etc.) whereas ME2 just feels like a complete waste of time from a narrative point of view.

IMO, the peak of gaming's best trilogy. Though it does require all the DLC to really get a full experience.

The opening 2 hours couldn't have done a better job of putting me off. It was clear that this was more ME2, rather than the ME1 I loved.

with years removed from the initial furore, time to digest it and play through with all the DLC i think this has honestly stood the test of time and the general outrage. there's some missteps in the pacing here and there and a lot of the previous choices might only amount to cosmetic changes in this edition but i still felt like what i did mattered or had an impact because the characters that you could drag through were great and made the moments in this impact even harder plus most of the conclusions to individual character and story arcs were nicely done.

The ending, as most people know, is a surreal, disjointed trainwreck that flagrantly defies logic presented earlier in the very same game. Never in my life have I been so utterly baffled by the last 15 minutes of a piece of fiction. The extended cut doesn't help much either.

That said, the rest of the game really is great. There are fantastic character moments throughout, and everything prior to those last few minutes feels like a great sendoff for the series as a whole. Even the multiplayer was actually pretty good.

when i beat this game i felt like a part of my life was over. the ending sucks. it really really sucks. it actively soured me on the rest of the series, and i really hate that fact.

I know it's probably unfair to rate not only a game, but an entire trilogy, based on the last 15 minutes of the last game, but I cannot in good conscience rate this game any higher, regardless of how cool I thought the quarian/geth plotline was. The last 15 minutes is a flabbergasting disaster of which I have never seen before. I have truly never seen anything near such a writing catastrophe as I have seen in this game.

It should be mentioned, though, that not everything about the game prior to the ending is perfect. The krogans plotline, especially with Wrex in charge, is pretty baffling. But still, those could be look past if the ending was not what it was.

And honestly, the gameplay did not get any meaningfully better from two, and it ultimately cemented the death of Bioware. It sucks, but it is what it is.

One of the best action RPGs I've played, plenty of content, and feels.

Doesn't hit the nail on the head quite like Mass Effect 2, but that doesn't make this game any less fantastic. Still fantastic gameplay, even though the "building the army" mechanic could probably have some more complexity to it to make it more interesting. Great story, great gameplay and absolutely gorgeous.

What an interesting and bizarre conclusion to a beloved series. I love this game and hate it at the same time, but I also understand that EA put BioWare in a very compromising situation by forcing monotization into the core gameplay as well as getting the full scope of the story.

I know there are some who consider the extended cut endings to this game to actively betray what the original intent was, but honestly since they’re free it’s up to the player how they want to proceed. I decided to choose destroy for this playthrough, and I found it a lot more narratively satisfying than the control or synthesis endings, but that’s just me. Personally, if I put hours and hours into a game to ensure the victory of my protagonist, then I want that victory to be achieved.

Idk, this is a mixed bag but it’s one I’m glad exists because of how much there is to talk about and analyze. I feel like a ton of the issues with this game would have been solved if instead of just one game it was two, but trilogies are a lot more marketable I guess. Oh well, it is what it is, and at least it’s not Mass Effect: Andromeda.

An amazing end for an amazing trilogy.

Ending aside this was a very rewarding and emotional experience from start to finish.

The gameplay is also the best its ever been (IMO)

Gameplay is fine, story Is super mediocre. Multiplayer is surprisingly good.
