One of my all-time favorite games. Love the atmosphere of Tallon IV and all the areas you discover as you continue through the game. Get a great sense of empowerment as I find more power-ups and upgrades, as I get to explore more of the world. Combat is smooth and bosses were very emposing my first time playing the game. Soundtrack is extremely memorable. The addition of written lore for both the Chozo and Space Pirates did a lot to breath life into the world of Metroid. Love this game.
Retro Studios' first official foray into games in general is a great game as much as it is a fantastic step in 3D action-adventure that still holds up. There's lots of rocky issues that could've certainly used some ironing out like the world design being interconnected in very aloof uninteresting ways or how simple the mechanics still are, but what's here is still a monument in terms of one to one level design, exploration, and nonlinear worldbuilding. It's also capped off with probably one of a very few metroidvanias that actually requests that you took note of what you saw as you traveled (although not 100% gracefully done with a few keys that are in absolute what-the-fuck areas). While not particularly wowing it still holds such a strong grasp of level design pillars and atmospheric storytelling that it deserves a large part of the merit it gathers.
Ugh I want to like this game so much more, but I just fucking can't. This game does so much right. It has such a great atmosphere. I love the world of this game. It truly feels like you're on an alien planet that's on the verge of collapse. The space pirate bases are some of the best areas in all of Metroid in terms of atmosphere. The music is so fucking good, and the combat is so fun. Each ability translates so well into 3d, and the scan log is amazing. Reading up on how the current state of Tallon came to be is so interesting, but the actual gameplay is just so boring.
When you're just progressing and moving to the next area, this game is fun. You're finding secrets and hidden items everywhere, exploring and discovering stuff, fighting great bosses, but once you're done with all of that, you have to back track, a lot. It really ruins the pace of the game. One great example of this is the Phazon mines. I was enjoying the great atmosphere of it all. The areas was so scary and intense, I was loving so much of it, but then I got the power bombs. I now had to go back through all of the same rooms, get the grapple beam then continue out of the Phazon mines to get the x-ray visor. Okay, it's not THAT bad, but it's still annoying, but it doesn't stop there. I now have to go all the way back to Magmoor Caverns to get the Plasma beam. Why? Why couldn't this just be something you get with the grapple in the Phazon Mines? This kills the pace of the game so much it's insane. I stopped one of my sessions here because I didn't want to go all the way back. This wouldn't be much of an issue either if there were plenty of items you could get along the way like the 2d metroids, but there isn't. Samus also moves so slow making that last point not even matter. Idk why we couldn't have had some sort of speed up in this game. Make the speed booster that idk. It's just annoying to enjoy a game so much and then suddenly have all that taken away because of stupid decisions. I really wanted this game to me one of my favorites, but it sadly isn't and that really upsets me. I've yet to play Prime 3, and I always drop Prime 2 in the middle, so I guess the prime series just isn't for me.

One of the greatest space adventures put to games, Samus Aran's plight through Tallon IV is tight and memorable. There are a few frustrating enemies and weak areas, but this is well worth your time.

Writing off of memory, but I adored this game - it's all about the world building that you get from observing and scanning what's around you; the franchise had one heck of an atmosphere.
I often found Prime quite frustrating due to the limited camera movement (looking and moving are all controlled with a single analogue stick), but I later completed it on the Wii, which vastly improved on the controls.

This is the first video game I've ever played, as evidenced by its place on this profile. Metroid Prime feels like a Nintendo 64 game in that it answers the question "What would [SNES game] feel like in 3D," and it also feels like a Nintendo 64 game in that it's annoyingly clunky but satisfying when played well. Super Metroid, the SNES game used as inspiration here, is still better by pretty much every measure, but this is a decent translation onto a new axis. It's worth noting that it is a first person 3D platformer--a genre rarer than it should be--so it might be worth playing for that alone, and it is worth a play through if you're looking for a game to play. Just play Super Metroid first.
Sorry guys, I don't see it. Metroid Prime is a good game, but I would be hesitant to say it was one of the best. Compared to the 2D games, I didn't enjoy it as much. I think that comes down to the 3D elements of the game.
Areas are bigger so it takes longer to navigate through them, making backtracking longer as well. The map is so much harder to navigate as well, I was constantly getting lost of where I was and where I need to go. Weapon had longer animations than I would've liked, doors take a while to open sometimes, some bosses overstay there welcome, Meta Ridley in particular. If on Hard-Mode, a section of a boss takes about 20-30 minutes to beat, I'm sorry that isn't good boss design that's just wasting my time. Speaking of wasting my time, the artefacts, what the hell. It takes so long to find them as there all over the place and it's just annoying as it feels like it wasn't necessary.
I don't dislike the game, there are elements that I love. The first person view in Samus's helmet is awesome, you truly feel like your in the game. The controls are really good to, until you get to some platforming sections then I think the controls faultier a little. I think the music is great too, super atmospheric.
Metroid Prime is a good game, and i'm interested in checking out it's sequels to see if they improve on the things I disliked in this game. But until then i'm still gonna say I prefer the 2D games.
