''It comes as no surprise that I absolutely fell in love with The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. Gameplay-wise it’s a nice improvement over the original Sky trilogy with a good amount of quality-of-life enhancements for an even better experience. But obviously when it comes to games like these, the world-building, story and characters are the driving force behind the game. Trails from Zero delivers on all three fronts with a good story that keeps the action going, a loveable cast of diverse characters and excellent world-building. Particularly the last part is noteworthy, as Crossbell uses its smaller region size to keep relations with citizens and important characters very consistent. You also learn straight away just what kind of messed-up state Crossbell actually is due to a strong start, and the game keeps being strong right till the very end with its characters and story. For a game this consistently good, it should come as no surprise that I give this game my highest possible rating: a 10 out of 10!''

Pretty damn good, probably the best side content and core gameplay in the series. The main party is a mixed bag however, Randy and Tio are pretty great while Llyod and especially Ellie fall flat. The supporting cast does fare a bit better. In a lot of ways though, this feels like a lesser version of trails in the sky. Even during the final boss, I was just thinking of SC's final boss in the back of my head. It's still a good bit of fun, Crossbell City itself and its sidequests also do this game a tremendous favor.

I stopped playing this one, cuz the Japanese got too complicated... May try out the English fan patch someday. For now it kinda excerbated the problems I have with the Trails-games in general. It's so goddamn wordy and slow. When I played Trails in the Sky it didn't even get started till 10 hours in. And even only watching Trails of Cold 1 & 2 felt like it takes forever to get going...
I don't know, I love the world-buildung and characters and the plot itself mostly...I even kinda consider myself a Trails-Fan in a way? But maybe I just like watching it instead of actually spending all that time to finally get to the "good part" myself.... Maybe I see things differently when I play this one in English for now though, that's were I am at

This game is the perfect example of quality over quantity. The whole thing takes place in one small town and stars a small cast of only 4 characters from start to finish, but by the end of the game you are incredibly attached to Crossbell and the SSS. I look forward to going back when Geofront finishes their translation of Azure.

This game is a bit slow and these characters do not get to shine as much as they get to in Ao no Kiseki. However, this game has my favorite moment in the whole series for me. Renne's story arc coming to an end is one of the most heartwarming and touching stories I've ever witnessed in fiction.
honestly the ending kinda sucks since it just shits on the themes that the game was building up, but apart from that it's pretty good. the central cast are all very well characterized (Renne's arc in particular is a highlight of the entire series to be honest), and the music is just as good as what you'd expect from pre CS3 falcom. just turn the difficulty down to easy because the combat is needlessly tiresome and the final dungeon in particular is painful.
Really great time with great characters and the same cozy vibes from Trails in the Sky. Sometimes it does feel like the game rips plot elements straight from the Sky trilogy but it still did enough to get its claws into me and get me interested in the story it wanted to tell on its own merits. The whole plot about trying to uproot corruption inherent in society is a great one, and the way they resolve some of the hanging plot threads left over from the Sky trilogy is amazing. Great time overall.
