I guess it's okay but keeps the same issue of illusion of choice staple of Telltale games and has a lot of cheap actions cutouts because I guess conversations are boring for TT's target audience, not to mention the same formula from previous TWD games which make this one a little too familiar in narrative structure. Story is okay but I only cared for Sam so there goes that.
It is what it is, a mini series.
It’s not a bad game at all and I ended up enjoying it a lot more after the first hour or so. relatively short so easy to get through.
I would recommend to a fan of the series however don’t hold your expectations up to the standards of the other games or you’ll be sorely disappointed, this is no clementine.

I'm not familiar with any other Walking Dead media, but I understand that Michonne is a player character with a much greater documented history and thus there isn't as much opportunity to affect her development or characterization compared to other protagonists in the series; she's a pretty static character who hardly gets any development, and no matter how cool it is that she slices up walkers with a sword, that's no good in the Telltale formula. I've never been one to complain much about the illusion of choice in these games, because maintaining that illusion is itself an artform that can greatly affect the experience; Michonne is very transparent that nothing you choose will really matter due to its status as an interquel.
Unlike the main series, where the player is traveling in a party with a few key figures in conflict that the player will find themselves choosing a side, Sam is the only companion who drives the narrative in Michonne and thus your ability to care about what happens extends as far as you care about her, and I thought she was awful! She continually makes horrible decisions, never gets fully called out for it, and despite my best efforts to throw her to the wolves at every chance, Michonne is continually dragged into cleaning up her messes. Didn't care about anybody, thought everybody sucked, even Michonne is difficult to get attached to without any prior knowledge of the character (those dopey flashback hallucinations are so stupid), and it's the misery porn that season 2 often gets accused of being without anything of value in its place.
This game does make me want to play Oneechanbara though.

This is a really short but sweet miniseries on the The Walking Dead universe, it has simple characters that work well and the protagonist is a badass with a machete.
It really works well as a separated story of the normal storyline, and you can play it in an afternoon since it's like one hour per chapter.

I'm genuinely confused why this is a game. As a tv special, as a movie, as anything else it probably would have been a better fit to it, but often I feel that when I play through this game it just wasn't living up to the full potential of what the story had to offer. Michonne is a great character, and it's wonderful to explore her past, but it often felt the game didn't have a good sense of direction, and with the game choices being even more limited, useless, and overall no brainers it just wasn't as interesting as previous telltale games. Not to mention all the glitches and awkward animations that kinda ruin immersion. Very skippable, but also short too.
I got this for free and it was a complete waste of time. No tension, no good characters, just people being perpetually miserable and the occasional ZOMBIE ATTACK WOAH!!
You could argue the other games were just like this but they did it better. This is just another spin-off from way after the formula got stale. I liked Michonne's backstory at least.
