A lot of the designs in this game are super eye candy to me especially Dimentios

Man what an experience this game was. I'm not afraid to admit it did get me to cry a little towards the end

If this game stuck with the turn-based rpg battle formula this would've easily been the best entry in the series and probably been one of the best games ever made

Plays fine, nowhere good as its older brother TTYD, but the story is too good.

the style of this game is very cool, and the story is incredible. it really felt like they used all the creative freedom they had possible and made this completely off the walls paper mario game. it doesn't really feel exactly like mario, it feels incredibly unique and entirely new and i love it so much. they did take a step back in terms of the gameplay and the combat but i feel like the music, style, and charm alone kind of makes up for it.

This game is amazing especially the storyline love to replay this masterpiece it's too good I love the story best of any Mario game and also the music is good especially castle bleck is my favorite track in the whole game.

Look ik this game gets a lot of hate but besides being a weird non-RPG departure for paper mario I actually loved this shit.

It's pretty good but felt a bit too puzzley and little action-ey for what I expect from any mario game, including the paper mario saga.

Best Story in the Paper Mario Series but has the least interesting gameplay

Why did they not keep the mechanics from TTYD

dude. playable bowser. 4.5 stars.

This game's story is literally top tier in Mario terms-- It feels like they made the story and then weaved the Mario characters into it slightly. The major downside of this game is the often very oddly cryptic puzzles alongside the fact that it's VERY hard to pick up an old save file if you don't remember which pure heart you had / which pure heart you put into a pillar... Still worthwhile.

Super Paper Mario is such a radical departure from the format of the first two games that it hardly feels right to call it a sequel of the same franchise. Nevertheless it's a fun arcadey experience. Surprisingly the storyline is really quite good. Entertaining, phantasmal, full of heart. A good ride.

A masterpiece of a Mario game. Princess peach saves herself, Bowser becomes your homie, and Luigi turns evil and gets a dope theme song. Count Bleck makes a cooler villain than Bowser. Each world was so colorful and unique. The pixels were charming; I loved how each of them had a unique personality. This game had a ton of references to other games/media, but they went over my head. I collected all the cards and recipes in this game, and cleared both pits of 100 trials.

Man, I cannot get over how amazingly this story was told. I have only cried once when playing a game, and this became so close to being number 2, I just cannot believe how well they went about the story, and I truly hope we can get that in future titles. I like Color Splash and Origami King’s story’s, but this is what I need to see more of. I wish I could give this a 9 or 10, but I just did not love all the gameplay decisions in this game. Could have been a masterpiece if they had picked by a particular style because this could have been perfect if that had been the case. Oh well, at least Nintendo decided that stories were not needed and gave us Stick- NO… let’s not ruin this review. Love this game. Play it. Please.

definitely good despite not following the traditional paper mario turn-based formula

super paper mario my fav paper mario game all time next to ttyd man the story and characters and the ending are amzing man

Shame we never learnef the true identity of Mr. L.

Not as good as the first two sadly

Super paper mario is such a weirdo.

In a war between the N64 and Gamecube duo, and the Sticker-Splash-Origam trinity, Super is just there in the middle doing its own thing.

It's technically and RPG since the characters "Level up" but it's also a regular 2d platformer.... except is not just that because the ability to switch between the 2D and 3D world makes for 3D exploration / puzzle solving that makes for a bizzarre mix.
THe aesthetic is also weird: a weird combinatio of the older PC interface, classic MS paint, classic computer and technology assets, and PAPER.... it's absolutely dated but also feel timeless... somehow.... it's neat.

All of these bizzarre decisions don't even stop here: you know how this game was sold as a clasic mario journey with nothing important in terms of the story?
Well, the commercials were kinda right..... except for the part where you witness Peach's and Bowser's wedding, a brainwashed evil luigi, bizzarre species and character designs, a manor FULL OF SLAVES, THE END OF THE WORLD, aliens pooping in space, HELL, THE OTHER HELL, some of the most tragic and complex mario characters ever created and legit some of the best Nintendo villains.

SUper Paper Mario is the third unsong hero of the Paper Mario series, an absolutely phenomenal experiemnt that feels as both a acid trip, and an incredible experience.

The best game ever fucking made.

I always felt like this is a game I should’ve owned and played when I was younger but that never ended up happening. Decided recently that I wanted to play through it. This game feels almost like fan game in the way it’s presented and even its gameplay. I won’t lie the gameplay can be pretty lame at times. There’s a lot of “go through a level and get told to do some cryptic stuff somewhere near the beginning of the level.” I think the writing more than makes up for it though. This game just has so many moments that got a genuine laugh out of me and it has a solid little main overall. Definitely glad I finally got around to playing this

I love the story of this game and.. that's pretty much it. The gameplay aspect of it is not the high point, in fact, I'd argue that it is it's lowest point. It's a 2D platformer and not really interesting overall, in comparison to the previous games of the franchise.

A lot of people look down on this game for the fact that it departed from the Paper Mario series. I understand that complaint, but I still think this game is excellent in its own right.

My clearest memory of this is watching the very long opening, repeatedly selecting "no" when Mario is asked if he'd like to save the world, being met with a game over, and having to watch the whole opening again.

Had a lot of strange feelings when replaying this tbh. It used to be my favorite Paper Mario game (mostly since it was my first), and I’d always think about how the writing and world design were far more interesting here this than in TTYD whenever I reflected on the series. But even though I still do like it quite a bit, I’m not sure if that’s a very honest position for me anymore.

I do think it has a handful of ideas that are more realized than its GameCube predecessor (primarily how the game assigns unique mechanics to the 4 main characters that carry throughout the whole game, especially swapping to 3D). And yeah I do get more out of the writing and character dynamics here; but honestly, as I was playing more and more I found myself just puzzled at its very existence.

I understand that it was originally intended for the GameCube—and therefore might’ve faired better as a companion to TTYD than a sequel—but I couldn’t shake the feeling that this is just way too weird and different of a project to the entirety of the Paper Mario series that it’s nearly impossible to compare them side-by-side. This is a side-scrolling platformer through and through and what that genre invokes/necessitates is almost totally opposed to that of the turn-based RPG genre. It doesn’t matter how much you try to blend the two as they were made to be entirely unique experiences.
