to me this is just undertale but worst
I didn’t really enjoy undertale, it was ok but it got boring kind of fast. What kept me going were some characters I really liked like mettaton or papyrus, but I don’t really like anyone here. Susie is ok, but they’re all pretty lame.
Again I get why people like this, it’s just not for me

I didn't expect this, but I can't stop thinking about this game. Went back to finally do an Undertale Genocide Run to see if I was just completely wrong being so lukewarm on that game, but there's so many ways Deltarune takes the good ideas Fox had for that game and expands on them to really reveal their potential. First, the silent protagonist finally gets a personality through cutscenes, through the music, through how the other characters feel about them. The new Tension Points and party system for ACTing make fights/encounters feel like there's so much more depth to replay. I really appreciate games released in chunks when they take advantage of the time spent between update waits, and so far it feels like Deltarune might be doing that.
The narrative here is structured similarly to OMORI, but I think it succeeds more than that game did in "fantasy" environments actually providing some kind of insight into the characters being controlled, where that game was largely only about fantasy as avoidance. So, yeah I'm super on board and I hope this manages to become Fox's masterpiece. Even if it doesn't turn out so good, this is probably the most I've gotten out of free game.

(Written between the releases of Chapter 2 and 3)
If Undertale was a life-changing, revelatory game with a story that was deeply profound, a soundtrack that was one of the best and most moving in recent history, and had characters that were both relatable and sympathetic, even at their worst, Deltarune ups that ante by one hundred.
Deltarune is, well and truly, my favorite game of all time - and it's 2/7ths finished. From the first chapter and its relatable teenage characters stumbling through coming of age, to the second chapter with the more deep and interesting thoughts of lore as well as the more fucked up aspects of this universe, Deltarune stands on its own, far and away from Undertale. Even without its predecessor to hold it up, the game continues with each installment to show that Toby Fox is a master of telling a story, crafting rich characters, and weaving it all together with insane bops again and again.

To date, this is my favorite game ever, the experience of playing this after playing Undertale is very satisfying.
I think it's a great game by it's own, and the connection it has with Undertale only makes it better, right now, only two chapters have come out, I can't wait to play the rest of the game to experience more of Toby fox's great music, writing, designs and stories.
10/10
