its cute! its fun! its good! main critique would be the cost of this game vs its length. highly recommended if its on sale, but its not worth $60. still a great game though

This game is great.

Never played the OG, but this doesn't feel old at all.
The attack timing mechanic plays really well into turning a otherwise somewhat bare bones turn based combat system into a very engaging one.

The story is very mediocre and predictable, but i wasn't expecting much from a Mario rpg that is supped to be a entry level of the genre. Regardless, i really like the humor and expressive poses in this game.

It feels like every hour the game is trying to give you a new mini game to make things fresh, some of them are things that happens only once the entire game, and others you can try to master to get extra reward.

But by far my favorite moment was finding a secret boss that is basically chaos from FF, from the battle music to the winning Fanfare when you beat it.

To me this game is a gold standard of what i'd like to see when we talk about remaking old rpgs like FF7/FF8/FF9 or the Trails in the Sky trillogy. Keep the estetic that the og had, brush a new paint over it and improve a few quirks that nowadays we don't have to work around anymore and we have a perfect remake.

I want to see more remakes of old rpgs on this style instead of trying to reinvent what it was, like with FF7 remake. I beg you square, give us something like this for FF9.

Very funny and whimsical game. A lot of the "canon" mario elements do remind of early iteration weirdness (which is also charming to see). Seems to be very faithful to the original without compromising itself (I haven't played the original).
Lack of voice acting or even a typing sound makes dialogue fall a bit flat, especially in bosses (though this is a nintendo thing in general, unfortunately).
Has a lot of silly design quirks that would be called "frictional" today but honestly it's just kinda fun to see. Timing and Difficulty of encounters and action shenanigans vary from "baby tier" to "how in the fuck".

yes, it's better than valorant

A cult classic that's been brought back with great visuals but that's it. Lack of voice acting and any real difficulty challenge really holds this title back from being anything more than a nice visit to past. This definitely won't replace the SNES version but it will be the cheaper and more accessible version. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to play a JRPG with it not being filled with grinding and being painfully challenging or if you're just not familiar with JRPGs and want to dip your toes in for 10 hrs. Culex was cool tho, wish the switch had achievements to give me the motivation to 100% the game.

decent rpg, hard carried by it charm and yoko shinomura.

Raw charm in videogame form. Adorable graphics, a fun if fluffy script, and absolutely BLESSED music (those new arrangements are such earcandy jfc).

The action command system from the original holds up as a fun way to play, and I love the battle mechanics added to this, inspired by some of the best JRPGs around (the team combos from Chrono Trigger AND the quick-switch from FFX? Let's GOOO).

It's short sweet, and easy by JRPG standards (though the extra bosses at the end can pose a serious threat), but I had a darn good time.

A charming remake, feels like the gateway drug for JRPG's

This game is charming as all hell, even back when it first released, but the relatively shallow gameplay leads me to not enjoy it as much as other SNES RPGs, and especially more modern ones.

I'd say this is a good pick up if you're someone looking for an RPG with ore simplistic mechanics and where side quests are pretty unobtrusive, but I'm just looking for something more. Or you can just pick up the Thousand Year Door remake in a few days because why wouldnt you.

Compared to the SNES version that game ages pretty well. This one offers some quality of life improvements and a moderate amount of bonus content, so if you're the type who refuses to play games older than them, go for it.

My only complaint with this game is I would have preferred to spend about 10 fewer US dollars on it.

Despite that it's one of the good remakes. I got to introduce my girlfriend to one of my all time favorite games without having to hear her whine about how ugly it is.

kinda boring ngl couldn't finish it

Mario RPG is a very fun, unique Mario experience with so many one off characters that never returned to the Mario series. The story is very charming and the characters are a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the combat is pretty shallow and the final third of the game really drags with the amount of random encounters. Overall, this was a great remake of a unique Mario entry that was just slightly too long for me.

SMRPG is very cozy playing this game was very relaxing the character designs are cute and the music is nice the gameplay though is pretty meh imo most battles feel very samey and a lot of the time the game is ridiculously easy and the final dungeon dragged a bit with a lot of unnecessary boss fights but it is cool to see where the mario rpg series began and what games like mario and luigi and paper mario took from this game and improved on I had fun re visiting this game after 6 years and I'm happy it got a remake!

Never played the original, but I do like this remake. I never find myself completing longer games, so a shorter RPG was a delight to play through. I recommend.

87/100

Maybe something new is missing, maybe the adventure was never so perfect, but something is missing
Even so, Super Mario RPG is still a great work worth admiring.

Honestly was surprised at how charming this game was. And after getting invested in its world and characters I would love to see a sequel especially after that ending

Incredibly cute little game

I did not have nostalgia to carry me through this one, so my opinion is a bit lower than others. For one, it's an easy game which can be a bit boring to some, especially to those who have experience with other JRPGs. In addition, the story was pretty mediocre and it sometimes wasn't very clear what to do next.

However, it was still an enjoyable experience. The music was fantastic, the game looked great, and though the game was easy the battle system was fun to engage with due to attacks that require timed button presses (think like Paper Mario). You were constantly engaged and never felt like you were just mindlessly battling. Lastly, this is a great game for working adults (and of course kids) as it's fairly short and gives you many save points.

Overall good game which is held back by an easy difficulty and mediocre story.

I finished this back when it came out and forgor to log it. lmao.

The original Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time and I was surprised when Nintendo announced this remake. This remake was delightful: the graphics and music have been improved and the new battle mechanic is really fun and incentivizes you to try different party combinations. I still wish there was more content like a higher level cap or new playable characters like Luigi but overall this is a great remake and is an improvement over the original. While the original has its charm this is definitely worth checking out.

Ok, I kinda get why people want him in Smash now

i cannot believe that smash bros fans hyped up geno for decades when mallow was right there

More RPGs need to be 10 hours long

This game is a delight, it was my first experience playing this game myself after watching playthroughs when I was a child and I don't regret that being the case. It was incredible to play the genesis of the action command-based Mario RPGs that I love so much.

The music was expertly redone by the GOAT Yoko Shimomura with only a handful of tracks that don't match the same energy as the original. That is a minor issue though because you can switch to the original OST at any time. The artstyle is super charming, I love that it is basically one to one with the originals. It achieves what Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl attempted because of how much time and care they put into it.

The combat is fun, with the timings on the action commands being way trickier than I would've expected which kept me engaged the whole way through. The addition of the super commands depending on the team you are using is the cherry on top for the combat, giving some much needed oomph to it. I only wish that there was a hard mode or an option to turn off the splash damage, as while it made the game quicker to get through it did cause a couple fights to feel slightly trivial.

The story is the only aspect that I think is not exceptional. It is entertaining the whole way through and does not take itself too seriously, but after growing up with Mario RPGs like Bowser's Inside Story it leaves a bit to be desired in terms of depth. I can't fault it too much for this though because it is literally the progenitor of a genre that got me Bowser's Inside Story in the first place.

I'm glad that Nintendo is finally giving Mario RPGs the love and respect that they deserve.

Pretty fun RPG. It definitely is a beginner's RPG, but that's not a negative. In fact, the battle system is actually one of the more fun I've seen in an RPG. The game is pretty funny with some great dialogue. The game did not overstay it's welcome, although maybe it was just a bit short.

As boiled down as an RPG gets, cute writing and dynamic (very easy) combat
