This is easily the worst video game series I have ever played, but I can't help but keep playing them. I am a massive fan of Until Dawn, and I think it is one of, if not the best horror game ever made. This definitely makes these games worse in comparison. The game is not scary at all, the monster is revealed in the tutorial. The visuals are hit or miss, some aspects of this game look great, others look bad. There is excessive quick time events, such as multiple quick time events to move a mug off of a piece of paper. The game actually had the opportunity to have a decent ending, unlike the others in the series. Unfortunately it is squandered, as the characters escape the cave they have been stuck in, a SOLAR ECLIPSE happens which allows the monsters to attack again. This is absolutely laughable and in classic Dark Pictures fashion the ending sucks.
For transparency sake, I did not play this alone, me and 4 friends were shitting on this game throughout the whole playthrough, intentionally killing of the games worst characters and laughing at it.

Certainly the best of the "Dark Pictures" entries so far, but that isn't a very high bar to clear. There were a few interesting choices throughout the game, I enjoyed the antagonists in this one way more than the past games and thought it did a decent job of handling the overall setting of the game.
Nothing too crazy here. It's fun with a friend, but I would not recommend it for solo players. They have a cool coop mode where each player gets assigned a character and they ask you to pass the controller when it's someone else's turn to play.
It's fun to laugh at a friend who just missed a QTE or to decide on which choices to make as a group. The story and the characterization are pretty much inspired by b-horror movies so you know what you're getting yourself into. Once again, play it with someone else, that's where 90% of the fun will come from, otherwise you're probably better off just ignoring it or watching a playthrough instead.

House of Ashes delivers some of the best character writing in the anthology so far with the characters feeling more fleshed out compared to previous entries. The inclusion of alien vampire parasites was a lot to throw in all at once, but I did like the end credits scene which really started to show more blatant connections between the anthology’s stories through an unknown organization.
Like its predecessors, House of Ashes leaves a few loose ends and unanswered questions, but that doesn't fully detract from the overall enjoyment. The series keeps me coming back by basically being an interactive horror movie that makes for a fun game night with friends.
