tldr; maybe worse than galaxy because of its map structure and lack of bombastic moments, but the level design is slightly more consistent so idk
this one removes a lot of what the original galaxy appealing and it tries really hard to compensate with its level design.
the power ups are better, and most of the stages are more satisfying but its terrible map structure forces you to play a lot of its worse missions to pass a star gate and it lacks a lot of galaxy 1's cinematic flair.
i guess overall gameplay wise its better than the original, but ill say the original was much better as a complete package while this one only really focuses on a couple things and is weaker for it
the final level is amazing though, holy hell

One of the greatest 3D mario's, expanded on what made Galaxy started and made it even better!
Whoever says Mario games are easy needs to 100% this game and then get back to me.
I don't feel nearly as strongly about this one as I do with the original, but this is still absolutely a masterpiece. It does everything the first game does right and just doubles down on it.

Holy this game is amazing. This is my childhood right here. It's just more of the PEAK from the first game. And brotha that soundtrack......DAMN. This is one of the few times where a sequel to a game is on the same level or even better than the original. A must play.

A beautiful game and one of the best in the entire franchise. Brighter and prettier, more fun, and feeling longer than its predecessor, it is the perfect sequel in every way possible. The only faults I can give this game is going for 100% is LONG, and Comet Observatory from 1 was the better hub.

For more detail, check my Super Mario Galaxy review, as everything I said there applies to this game too. In fact, the two share my spot for favorite game of all time as this is essentially just more Super Mario Galaxy with new features. The only thing lost in the sequel is the impeccable atmosphere of the first entry in the duology.
my little sister would always steal all my starbits from the shared bank, cloud power = epic, slimy spring galaxy = epic. actually the perfect sequel.

Yoshi's power ups were very fun to use solid level design similar to the first game. Hub world not as good as the observatory though.
The very first video game that I ever played at the age of 4, this game holds the most special place in my heart from being the very first video game that I ever touched, it seriously made me who I am today and started my obsession and love for gaming. This game is eternally engraved into my heart and I love it pretty much equal to the first. This game has one of the greatest osts of all time that never fails to make me cry as well as the most incredible and immersive atmosphere and level designs. Although getting all 242 stars in this game was definitely a pain in the ass at times I still had the most incredible journey doing it, and felt immense melancholy and loss like no other once I finally earned all 242 stars. This game made my childhood the best thing ever, and I’m so grateful for that.
