Part 1 is fucking dreadful and Part 2 is the best part of the entire Doom Eternal game. What a bipolar experience.

TAG Part 2 (5 stars) -

The Ancient Gods Part 2 is the best experience in the Doom Eternal campaign. The level design and gameplay feel highly rewarding and very tight. I was quite weary of the Cyber Baron, Screecher Buffs and Meat Hook puzzles given my TAG 1 experience. But all were done so well. TAG 2 really felt like it was designed by a different team from top to bottom.

TAG 2 adds the Sentinel Hammer (TAG 1 got rid of the Crucible entirely). It does damage and stuns everyone in an AoE. It's phenomenally fun. It integrates perfectly with glory kills and blood punch and it speeds up the game tremendously. Doom Guy is traipsing to and fro off monkey bars and portals landing blows that synchronize with one another phenomenally. Dropping armor pips and health pips as well as ammo and sentinel hammer recharges. Blood Punch drops. TAG 2 makes you work for it but when you get it clicking it feels so god damn seamless.

Seriously. TAG 2 is wildly fun combat experience. While I started the DLC on Hurt Me, Plenty by the time I got to the first Escalation Encounter (new TAG 2 content similar to Secret Encounters from the base game) halfway through the opening mission I turned the difficulty up to Nightmare. I wanted the challenge. And it didn't disappoint. The game gave me new tools to tackle challenges and it didn't send waves of enemies in combinations that were meant to give you an aneurysm. Enemies could be tackled in ways that were harmonious. Blood Punch waves of Pinkies and Glory Kill wayward Imps in the pack to get Sentinel Hammer charges that you could blast Pain Elementals with. Freezing them long enough for you to unload shotgun blasts that kill them and drop more ammo or set up more glory kills for more Blood Punches for more Sentinel Hammers, rinse and repeat.

Every level provided me with hordes of demons that I could smash my way through in ways that allowed me to collect the resources to continue smashing waves. Every skill, kill and stun gave me the tools to perform another needed maneuver to kill another enemy type in the arena. Just so snappy and rewarding the entire time through. The Escalation Encounters were super cool and upgraded you hammer adding to your toolbox and providing a notable feeling of progression through the game.

The jumping puzzles were better designed and the meat hook was fun to use, the physics feeling rewarding when combined with the in-air-control rune. The puzzles were better marked and it was clearer how to navigate them. I also found that I had less trouble ledge grabbing and less trouble with false glory kills that I had in both the base campaign and TAG 1 (though it did happen once or twice with the final boss).

The final parts of the DLC felt so good. The cutscene when you enter Immora felt amazing and huge in scope. So freaking cool to watch. Though I did wish we got better/clearer in story explanations for how/why it was happening and I do wish I got to fight the Titan. Still it was a lot of fun and the Dark Lord boss fight was tense and rewarding. A little same-y by the end, beating the Dark Lord on Nightmare was a significant challenge and I let out an audible yell of primal joy when I finally finished him. It felt so damn good.

All the way through the TAG 2 experience was the best Doom Eternal has to offer and I desperately wish more of the entire gameplay experience had been designed this way. The story traverses too many plot points too quickly and the confusing story doesn't get any clearer without significant investment from the user (collecting and then reading the codex and just ruminating on the information you're given). But that's a problem that plagues the entire series. In any case the gameplay in TAG 2 is so snappy and fast paced and dopamine rewarding that I'm very sad it was so short and that the rest of the game (TAG 1 and base campaign) didn't play this way.

In fact TAG 2 is so good that it's worth playing through how awful TAG 1 was. Just to get there. Sure you can skip TAG 1 but I think you have to buy it anyway. So you might as well just play it. TAG 2 is really, really good.

Es demasiado. No sé si es bueno o malo, pero es demasiado.

Very confused by these reviews not liking the final boss, the vastly superior encounter to several of the TAG enemy arenas that limit your options. That fucking double Marauder encounter with Screechers everywhere is like 100 times worse.

The weaknesses of the main game demons were usually just a suggestion; you could still find whatever other way to kill any given demon worked for you, and that's part of what made the combat sandbox so fun to mix things up with. Spirits, Riot Soldiers, Cursed Prowlers if they touch you, TAG demons of this ilk spit in the face of your flexibility. Each one typically won't take you much longer to dispatch than any other demon (besides spirit-possessed super heavies, grrr) so they only bring the experience down a little, but they are indeed a thorn in the DLC's side. Still plenty of fun otherwise. Especially the Dark Lord. Seriously you guys, he is so fun to fight, you guys just don't get it.

What in the actual FUCK is the final boss.

That final boss really brought this down and I think by this point the Eternal encounter design started to wear on me.

compared to part 1 eh but still good

Actually really enjoyed this one a lot tbh. Much better than the first with the pacing being a lot better and the music being better overall, oh yeah and the cutscene at the beginning of imorra was just so DAMN EPIC! The final boss was also really awesome and the ending confused me a bit but honestly I’m glad to finally see the ending of the doom slayer saga and realise how great this saga truly is, rest easy doom slayer I’ll be back for more

Same as part 1. Fucking loved the locations, absolutely despised the gimmicky af enemies.

FINISHED DOOM eternal ANCIENT GOD PART 2
Holy shit what a blast this was compare to part 1, the whole doomguy arc, the last chapter is some Avenger endgame level shit, the levels were amazing, new enemy variety is good, hammer is amazing,
The Perfect pacing/balance of gameplay and levels is back, ost also really good, and end boss fight also good, really love the experience SOLID ass ending to DOOM SAGA.
easy 9/10.

starts off super strong, the hammer is really fun to use and the levels are still great
the grapple movement puzzles are a bit easy but overall more fun than previous movement puzzles

unfortunately the enemies are even worse than in tag1, they're all just reskins of existing enemies with lame/annoying mechanics, the final boss fight is astoundingly terrible and unfun and the story just kind of ends

the optional levels in the escalation encounters are a cool idea but they kind of peak with the first one? the 2nd and 3rd are for some reason way easier and dont feel anywhere near as rewarding to beat

idk, wasnt the biggest fan even if i wish i could take the hammer to the main game/tag1 because it's everything i wish the crucible was lol

Why the fuck did they waste Doomguy's first time speaking on him saying shit like rip and tear when this has the better and less eye rolling wink to the camera way to do it raaaaaahhh!!! Also, this shit is just a Quake game that they called Doom lmfao. It's all right there. The nonsensically fucked up lore and legendary RPG Knight savior Doomslayer shit. The emphasis on movement and jumping, plus a fucking hammer. It's Quake it's goddamn Quake and we didn't even see it this whole time.

Fucking baller. Dare I say it's better than part 1? Honestly? Yeah it is. Everything in Part 1 and the base game has been expanded upon and brought to an even further insane level. Everything about Doom Eternal is cracked the fuck out. From the gameplay, to the music, to the story it's all crackhead shit that has me grinning like a psycho for the entire 30 or so hours I've spent between the campaign and the expansions. It's kind of funny how I feel that Doom 2, a game I used to (and still do!) unabashedly love feels like it overstays its welcome after replaying it yet Doom Eternal which is around twice the length just breezed through for me. Got a massive hard on every time I'd be on some psycho shootout with like 50 goons and then a fucking Cyberdemon joins in cause they're just cannon fodder now too. Disrupting that fucker Marauder's stun state into being even longer with the hammer. And the Sentinel Hammer goddamn it. Never has a game gotten me closer to feeling like Bob the Fucking Builder or Gaogaigar it's a 10/10 on that alone. So much better than The Crucible too since it refills with glory kills.

I could go on and on about how this shit rules and may actually be the best FPS of the past decade (contentious since for everyone else it's Titanfall 2, but I'm dying on this hill damn it!), but the tl;dr is that if you liked Doom Eternal you will like these expansions. Period.

If I was a woman this game would have probably been such a huge jolt to my hormones that I would have transitioned to the opposite gender.

try to not get it on console. its riddled with weird errors that wont let you access/play it even after fully paying for it. but this and the first game and the base game are amazing

So I think Bethesda realized the difficulty for the last DLC was way too hard.

Absolute fever dream of a gaming experience. Extremely fun but completely incoherent from a storytelling perspective. I kind of just gave up on trying to follow it and just enjoyed the good gameplay. The final boss wasn't awful but it certainly wasn't great. I really think Doom as a franchise feels complete after this I can not think of anything else they could do with this series.

The series completely loses its way in this latest dlc. Some things are better left unknown. Good level design though.

it's fine. still great tho. Recommend using a master level mod for the dark lord.

ээээ...нуууу...это какой-то брэд. Один из худших финальных боссов в играх как вишенка на торте

the meme beam is annoying and being forced to use it should be considered a crime against game design.

I'm not sure why, but aesthetically this DLC really avoids the gory hellish direction that the base game and to a lesser extend TAG 1 was full of. I don't think the final levels are bad looking, but much like the gameplay side of this DLC I was hoping for a balls out explosion of gore and mania for the final levels of what is potentially the end for this version of Doom.

The first two levels I would almost go so far as to call 'nice' looking. The capital of Hell is pretty clean, and if it wasn't red it wouldn't even look like Hell at all. The gameplay is a lot less intense than TAG 1 as well. This is the supposed to be a climax of biblical proportions, it literally ends with Doomguy killing God. Which is so at odds with the gameplay, which feels much less intense than the first expansion.

However it's not like the game has suddenly turned into Halo on Easy mode, it's still challenging, just not as demanding as TAG 1.

The new enemies are mostly great, the armored Baron is awesome, he encourages packing as much damage into a tight window as possible before he becomes invulnerable again, which works excellently with the arsenal that the player has at their disposal. The screecher encourages playing more cautiously, and the cursed prowler, while designed to be annoying, provides a lot of satisfaction if you manage to kill it before it damages you. However I found the stone Imp and the riot shield guy to be frustrating. They both inturrupt the flow of battle in a way that I didn't like.

The final level is pretty shit to be honest. First off it starts with an Avengers Endgame portal scene out of nowhere. Lame. One of the best things about Nu Doom is the Doom Slayer himself, how he feels like this pure incarnation of rage and fury. How he can singlehandedly crush any obstacle in his path. This giant battle also sucks becuase who the fuck are any of these characters? We only see one living sentinel in the entire base game and DLC and suddenly hundreds appear out of nowhere just as an excuse to have a big fight. So pointless.

The combat encounters during this final stretch just feel like an average level in the base game. It really doesn't feel like any kind of climax in the gameplay department at all, just one more level before the big boss.

I don't know what I was expecting but the final boss is fun, just not quite what I wanted.

I was thinking of all sorts of crazy shit that I would have preferred while playing the final level. I thought that it would be cool if the entire final level takes place inside Satan. (Who in my version would be a demon the size of a city, not just a human with red eyes). I also thought that the slayer might pilot one of those giant mech things that appear in ruins in the base game.

The ending itself is okay. Although I got a sinking feeling that it was neutered so that they could set up potential sequels, Which sucks balls. I would still recommend this DLC to anyone who enjoyed the base game, but its a long shot away from the over the top, bombastic fuckfest that I was hoping for.

Lazy enemy design and levels. I enjoyed the dark fantasy story but there isn't much there. A very weak way to end the series.

More doom. (part 2) I liked how they experimented with the enemies and how before under utilized weapon modes are now necessary to defeat some enemies. (x2 now)

Really Good
9,5/10 - Length
6,5/10 - Price
6,5/10 - Performance/Bugs
9,0/10 - Gameplay
8,0/10 - Story/Experience

Score = 7,9/10

Not as good as Part One, but still great. I liked the new enemies and tools a lot more in this one, but they felt less well utilized. The final boss of this episode is also underwhelming compared to the absolute nailbiter of a boss in Part One. It's still worthy of the Doom Eternal name with some excellent ripping and tearing, but doesn't quite reach the highs this game has previously established.
