Dreamland 2 dx is a wonderful version of dreamland 2 that fixes the biggest problem of the animal buddy music drowning out the rest of the soundtrack and only occasionally makes a questionable color choice.
As for base dreamland 2 it’s pretty good. Later games in the dark matter trilogy take advantage of more powerful hardware to create a strong visual style and atmosphere. A gameboy game obviously can’t do that but the game does a good job at taking the more complex structure of adventure and bringing it back to the gameboy. The collectibles in world 4 and 6 are hitler though.

SNK displaying some top notch arcade action on nes. Every mistake that the micronix developed nes ports of Ikari Warriors is gone and what you're left with is a pretty tight top down run and gun with good power ups. Creative enemy placement and pretty good graphics for a 1989 nes game make this stand out in a crowded genre. Very generous unlimited continues also help.
Oh and you get to play as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro who murder loyalists of the Batista regime as well as the dictator himself so that's pretty cool (anyone else weirded out that che is player 1 instead of Fidel)

A really delightful little adventure that's visually stunning for a game of it's budget that does unfortunitely come at the cost of somewhat weak level design and an abrupt ending though. If it was a bit longer or had a more meaningful post game/new game plus it would probably be truely great. As is it's pretty good

Versions like DS, effect, and the puyo puyo crossovers definitely trump this in terms of gameplay variety and presentation and there's always games like the original nes versions, the grandmasters games and 99 for people who take tetris seriously. But if you just wanna play some vanilla marathon mode I don't think it gets any better then this.
Plus there's a second rom hack that even adds color which is also nice

I really like doom 2 but I think the reason I can't give it a 9 unlike some other flawed games with really high, highs is how many fanmade level packs there are out there that are just better then doom 2. Like playing a classic doom game where at least 30 of the levels are good to great instead of just like 15-20 makes doom 2's flaws more noticable. Still a lot of fun though
Honestly a perfect afternoons worth of doom. It's a really solid nine level set that shows what 15+ years worth of experience with level design can achieve, while also being approachable enough for people who have just played doom 1, 2 & 64 to appreciate.
Also if you can I HIGHLY recomend playing through this with the original soundtrack by Peter Laurence and various artists as adds so much to each level.

Sonic's story is still some of the most fun and charming 3d platforming ever made and fortunately it's roughly 1/3rd of the game. The remaining 4 out of 5 other stories on the other hand have strengths and are mostly fine but feel like they end just as they start actually using the mechanics. And big is bad

Man in terms of blockbuster storytelling and setpieces, combat, puzzle solving, and survival horror mechanics everything in this game is set at exactly the right level. My only complaint is that while it is a fantastic area to explore it does feel like a bit too much of the game takes place in the police station compared to the other areas. In fact I'd argue the sewers and the train station feel like afterthoughts (the lab is alright). Still this is a phenominal leap forward for the series and I'm so excited to playthrough 2make
