9 Year Veteran of this franchise and unlike most other vets, I actually like the game, like a good amount, despite the fact that Beyond Light and Shadowkeep as a whole made me drop the game for at least 2 and a half years.

I'll just get my thoughts on the previous expansion out the way considering it should be a fair comparison to lightfall. Witch Queen? That shit was pretty fire. Gas Story. Actually the first good gameplay in a destiny expansion's MAIN STORY since Forsaken. One of the best multiplayer experiences I've had to date (Vow of the Disciple) and was just an overall solid expansion. Post-game was kinda mid, Seasons during the year were the definition of hit or miss and they aren't the expansion itself so that's alright, and PVP...? I don't play it so I don't care.

So what does lightfall do right? Well, first off, I actually like the gameplay for the story missions in lightfall MORE than Witch Queen, partly due to strand and all the cracked out gear I have because I haven't touched a woman in years. Outside of Strand and the overall missions, that is where the Ws kind of end because the story is.....kind of unacceptable coming from what Witch Queen brought. Complete nothingburger until the last cutscene and I am still confused on where it is going. Even if the gameplay is fun, it does not excuse a nothing story for what is advertised to be the PRE-ENDGAME EXPANSION for the first saga. Also not a good look on bungie to say they are continuing the story with the seasons coming this year, where is the context at launch? Post-game is a massive improvement from Witch Queen but only including one new (good) strike and no new pvp maps for a $50 expansion is embarassing in my opinion.

Alright, this is where my PvE room temperature IQ brain gets serious. How is the raid? Historically, if people did not care for the other content in an expansion, the raid is the saving grace if all else fails and let me tell you, we sure did get a 6 man dungeon. Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with easy content, hell easy endgame content. I am garbage at this game despite my playtime. However, for the raid right before the last expansion of the saga, this one was a disappointment. Root of Nightmares is such a confusing mess of a raid and is my least favorite raid currently in the game. The whole thing plays like a dungeon and I am 100% convinced it was intended to be one in the first place considering the third encounter has no correlation to the rest of the mechanic(s). Without rambling, a whole ass longjump past what Vow of the Disciple was (Hell, even Kings Fall). Despite this, like all raids, it is still decently fun and I actually kind of like it at the very least.

Overall, the hype bungie brought to the table was ultimately their downfall because me and my clan are just gonna be left confused and worried until the the final expansion either redeems the mostly sour / somewhat sweet taste this left or sets up this game's deathbed............is what I would say if I cared enough.

(TL:DR Lightfall was pretty mid but it was fun)
