Cardeeson finished Braid: Anniversary Edition
Now I don’t really care about anything related to the guy that made it, but as a game Braid is pretty neat. I like the new gameplay elements in each world, the story is told in a unique way, and the puzzles while hard are fair and super well designed. It kinda reminds me of Bastion with how it probably laid the groundwork a lot of games that came afterwards, like 2008 had a lot of bangers (and better games) but I think the legacy Braid has garnered is deserved.

Cardeeson finished Unicorn Overlord
Unicorn Overlord is a lot. That’s the best way I can describe how surprisingly rich in content the entire game is. While it doesn’t always balance everything, it is amazing at what it wants to do.

The heart of this comes from the gameplay, and it might be my favorite tactics game just on that front. The multiple units per squad, the introduction of new classes, and varied map structure mix together near perfectly. The class options help even more, it gets so deep by the endgame in the best of ways.

The exploration was another highlight. Liberating towns and doing side quests all felt meaningful. It feels rewarding to find materials on the overworld, and the new biomes kept things fresh, even if some areas go on a little to long.

A little bloat is the main thing holding this game back. The 2nd and 3rd areas especially feel too long, and the story doesn’t do it any favors. It’s not a bad story, it’s just kinda basic and it didn’t really do anything for me. 13 Sentinels is miles better, and I wish they tried a bit harder to shake up the objectives every area has.

Thankfully the gameplay prevents it from dragging too hard. Unicorn Overlord is still totally worth playing, regardless of how experienced you are at tactics games.
