A bit sad. I remember this getting announced in 2017 with the whole "A 90's FPS, 30 years later" appeal and thinking that was kind of cute at the time but it ended up releasing in 2020 and at that point Dusk, Doom Eternal, Wrath, Post Void, Ion Fury and a bunch of other stuff had come out. So I never played it until now because why would you play something that's self admittedly trying to be "Doom 30 years later" and nothing else when an official and really good "Doom 30 years later" just came out a few months before and there are tons of similar but way more interesting games releasing.

Hellbound itself is Doom again and nothing more. It plays the same, uses the same enemy types, the same weapons, etc. But it's also worse because performance isn't great and the overall aesthetic looks like an HD Doom Texture Pack or a series of stock assets rather than an actual Doom game.

It feels good to play at least, I beat it and had fun doing so but it always feels like a cheap imitation with no purpose. It even feels like the devs kind of knew this because it just ends after one episode, so if this was "A 90's FPS, 30 years later" it wouldnt be sold for £10, it would be free shareware.

I had fun enough with it to warrant the £1 I spent and I guess the short length is kind of a good thing since I didn't get sick of it but you could just install some free WAD's for Doom and get more out of it.

look, this one adds the simpsons: https://waltersgameboy.tripod.com/simpdoom/

Pretty cool and fun because Half-Life is cool and fun. I know this is an expansion but everything I liked about this I also like about the base game? I didn't really like any of the stuff unique to Opposing Force like the enemy types or level design. I don't think Black Mesa feels as real in terms of layout as the base game, I really like how it feels like you're travelling through the whole facility in that but here it just kind of felt like I was wandering randomly.

idk i'm being really picky cause this is basically more Half-Life and I can't complain about that. Half-Life is cool, love you Half-Life xo

I remember me and a friend got vac banned after playing this and then it just went away 15 minutes later. 14 year old me never knew such fear

i feel like an idiot saying that Opposing Force is "just more Half-Life" now that i've played what's essentially the 'steam early access' version of Half-Life

i still had a lot of fun and it's kind of funny playing something that's proudly showing off those HD models people hate

this is what the irate gamer sees at all times

just not very fun. looks ok, has an achievement called "THIS IS SPARTA!" in a game from 2021 but everything you do feels weak and there's nothing that stands out about it. the definition of mid

i never became a millionaire :(

EDIT: i keep coming back and losing cause this guy talks so much and my friends are dumb wtf, also realised this is the american version and i live in scotland

holy FUCK dude this is so FUCKING extreme dude holy SHIT

why would you make a game about something that doesn't exist lmao

Man I love when stuff is genuinely incredibly put together and really well written but is also so janky and funny. Like this isn't "so bad it's good lol" it's thematically still extremely relevant while also giving you an almost unrivaled sense of freedom, it's just that you experience it through JC Denton who has this constant "mum I shit myself" energy.

pretty chill game but those are wyverns, not dragons you fucking idiots, i'm at my limit

i like the gex vibe but i wish he didn't keep commenting on how 'the glove didn't fit' and 'oj didn't do anything'

It's fine but looks more like a mobile game than an arcade racer and doesn't have one of those announcer voices that yells "HORIZON CHASE TURBO" when you boot it up so what's the point

2004

Didn't like this one to be honest. I think the writing's more tonally appropriate than Jak 2 but other than that I found it way more boring despite it being really similar. I think it's mostly pacing cause every level's easier than Jak 2 but really long and tedious and it does this weird thing where the game's split between two worlds? If you look at any marketing or art for the game it's probably in the desert but a big chunk of it takes place in a corner of Jak 2's map. All the characters between these locations are different and the plot feels different so I felt kind of out of sync with it, like I wasn't really getting a good grip on either world. As I said it's also easier which is probably why I don't like it as much as well.

Jak 2 wasn't very good but I enjoyed it and looking back that might've been because of its weird, challenging, gta-ish missions that jumped between gameplay formats. When this removes that you're just left with kind of 'eh' mechanics. I still finished it though through the same hypnotic charm as Jak 2 but I knew I didn't like the game so I just got annoyed that I, for some reason, hadn't stopped playing yet. Maybe the game's trying to tell me I'm an idiot but I already know that, what do you think the car seat headrest tattoo's for.

a bit unbalanced and messy but feels completely dedicated to its grungey, over the top, 2000s aesthetic and is incredible fun because of this

definitely my favourite in the series
