Beat-em-ups That Are Kind of Cool Actually
I played all 200+ beat-em-ups listed in the cool+good book Go Straight from Bitmap Books. This list contains all the ones I think are worth playing, plus Shredder's Revenge and Final Vendetta which came out after the fact but I threw in anyway. Capcom won by the way

Insane that this was made by one lone anime pervert. Plays like a dream
When you get to the character select screen ignore the Nostalgia Critic, don't look at him, do not give him the satisfaction
When you're actively doing well at this game there is no more satisfying feeling on Earth and when you're doing badly you're experiencing the deepest pit of Hell. One of the GOATs
GBA version. Not that much to it but it's just quite charming. Wee Sheev sprite giving a cheeky grin as he tells the clones to execute Order 66
Play the Japanese version
By no means an amazing game but the horror theme is pretty rare so it's worth a look. Makes me think of Nightmare Creatures.
X-Men x Altered Beast. Definitely flawed but I'd say this is Konami's best effort prior to Violent Storm
Don't actually think this is all that hot in terms of gameplay but the designs are just so out there compared to its contemporaries, it's worth checking out
Konami admit defeat and just remake Final Fight and it's good!! Buy me Violent Storm or go to hell!!
Casting the biggest big big fire spell and making boys do the fence bit from Terminator 2. Gotta be one of the best looking beat em ups ever made. Insane this has never had a home port
I've had the evil laugh voice clip playing in my head for roughly 25 years
One of those weird ones that has clearly had a lot of work put into it even if it doesn't play all that great. Interesting at least

Did Capcom invent Just Defend in this game??
Obviously super basic in comparison to what would come after but you need to see just how much of the genre is codified here. C'mon man it's a classic
Really hit me whilst replaying this just how much I like the world of it. The village on the back of the giant turtle!
