Maybe this is a self-report on my own creativity but this game is so dull without modding it out the ass.

Gorgeous, ambient, and challenging. They crafted such a cool little world with this one.

This one crumples ever so slightly under its own weight. Insane what they managed to do and how they did it without turning every Nintendo switch into a military-grade flashbang though.

Always going to remember what it felt like booting up a new Zelda game and being able to go to any mountaintop or valley within view.

Simultaneously a culmination of the Soulsborne games and the perfect entry point for newcomers. A triumph of a game.

I didn’t become a RE fan until 2018ish so when I first played 4 I was put off by the outdated tank controls and the pausing in order to shoot. I liked the game quite a bit, but I didn’t quite get how it was hyped up as the best RE game ever. Now I get it. (Sorry OG purists)

2020

Such a beautiful game. Makes me wish bisexuals were real.

Insane how a 21-year-old furry created the greatest slapstick comedy simulator of all time with the best proximity chat of any game ever.

Gorgeous. Care was put into every frame of every animation to make this game look incredible. Love the art style. Love the wacky effects of the Wonder Seeds. Everything that a 2D Mario game should be.

BUT.

This game is mind-numbingly easy. That doesn’t mean it’s bad! I just enjoy a bit of bite to my platformers. Fun to play with my non-gamer spouse though!

EDIT: After playing every level to completion, late-late game levels satisfied my hunger for difficulty.

I’m in Act III but unless there’s a late-game reveal that my entire squad has like poo fetishes I don’t see this game not being a 10/10

This one is such a head-scratcher to review because the highs are HIGH but the lows are LOW. It has the best map traversal and fast travel of any open world game I have ever played. There are so many moments that make you wonder how the heck Insomniac managed to pull it off from a technical perspective. And the set pieces, combat, and gadgets are all a step up from the previous entry. However, in the end this feels like a vignette of set pieces clumsily strung together than a good story. The third act especially falls apart due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the “black suit arc” of Peter Parker’s journey and due to the late-game boss fights all being unnecessarily long and boring.

It’s a certified GOAT. A great blend of survival horror and experimental weirdness that can only seem to come from people like Sam Lake and Hideo Kojima on this scale. It’s also very lore-rich which is a massive plus for me.
