beat this in one sitting like a psychopath

the first (and only) time i completed DQ7 was back in 2016 when it got remade for the 3DS (i'm EU), so my memory of that version of the game is mostly long gone and therefore i can't really compare these two versions with eachother.

that said, i think version is really great but the translation was pretty bad. not only was it needlessly crude, it was also plagued with spelling mistakes and poor grammar. i know this was intended for americans, but they could have at least tried a bit harder.

it was good until later in the game when it gives you vague objectives you have to complete under a time limit (death suddenly being a game over with 0 explanation instead of having homunculus explain how you died and how to prevent it) which i didn't know was a thing until i read about it in a walkthrough (which i needed if i had any chance of finishing this last chapter). having time progress faster as you talk to npcs, something you will 100% be doing a lot if you don't know what to do next, is fucking stupid. i think i finished the last chapter with only a few minutes left until my death, which would have happened had i spoken to like only 2 npcs and exhausted their dialogue.

got ending D and have no desire to try for any others anymore, unfortunately.

cute little game. gameplay isn't anything amazing, and the platforming gets kinda shit towards the end. the music is pretty ok, but the voice acting was only just bearable. panta was the best part of the game

kinda crazy how nintendo has amassed this cult of ravenous, coprophagic adult babies

I feel bad for anyone who had this game as their first JRPG, it's fuckin' awful. Did a 10 year old write the dialogue? It shifts from innuendo and american food jokes to melodrama in an instant. The combat sucks because half the characters are worthless and the bosses are poorly designed, the difficulty of them is often either 0 or 100 depending on if you place your party members in a specific spot, a binary choice isn't strategy. The voice acting is horrible and whoever had the great idea of having characters repeat a voice line EVERY time you cast a spell in a JRPG needs to be shot.

not a fan of collectathons at all but there's just something about the movement in this game that i loved and it compelled me to go for 120%

there's not really anything wrong with the game, i'm just not a fan of collectathons

2004

there was potential for a good sequel to jak 2 but the world just feels more bland, the story and pacing is kinda not great most of the time, and yeah the difficulty is more forgiving but you blast through the game as a result and you start to realise that nothing in the game was given time to breathe
