Trent Reznor you are indeed my perfect drug

hilarious and frustrating game. aside from some of the stages that made me wanna rip my hair out this was actually pretty fun! much better than the first one with a really interesting story that while doesn't realize its full potential, does manage to be neat and intriguing during a lot of it

those jiggle physics were insane

Possibly the most insane game i've ever played, but i wouldn't call it a "so bad it's good" one. This one was honestly just kind of...really good?

Sure it's bizarrely designed at points, clumsily handles a few topics, etc etc. I don't think those things take away from the overall experience all that much, if anything i wouldn't say this game would be "Deadly Premonition" without em.

Everyone says this game is just Twin Peaks, and rightfully so. But i also find it super interesting how it tries to be beyond that in the second half. It almost feels like it's trying to lead you into a false sense of security if you are familiar with the show, it tries to make you believe that everything will go exactly like it until it doesn't, and everything goes batshit insane! In a somewhat similar fashion but still distinctly different i feel.

There are genuinely some really heartfelt moments here, incredible character writing, a solid mystery, interesting way to handle an open world set in a small town full of distinct people to make it as real as possible, and so so so much love in here. I'm honestly baffled this has the reputation it does but maybe it has something to do with seemingly running at a terrible framerate at the time it released.

It's time for you to leave town. Are you ready to go?

It's alright. I feel like while some plot beats could've been executed much better, it does definitely hold up atmosphere and worldbuilding wise. taking breaks from shooting guys to check out the environment was always a rlly fun time.

Fuck that last section of the game though. The gameplay loop was passable enough to make me curious about what's gonna happen next but everything starting from relocating the Big Daddy parts was just kind of annoying.

Bon voyage, pal! Bon Voyage!

i never wanna play this game ever again.

This review contains spoilers

This is a game that made me feel a wide range of emotions but eventually won me over in the end. If i had to pinpoint the exact time, it would probably be Gwyn's death animation. The game not even dedicating a cutscene to it and just driving home how scared he is just through the music and that one single animation alone strangely made me rethink all of my thoughts towards the whole thing.

I don't really have much to add in terms of what the game does well and fumbles mechanically, i feel the exact same as the average joe aside from a few things like Blighttown being actually really fun and Tomb of the Giants being honestly not that bad.

Pretty special game that will probably stay in my thoughts for a long while, was rlly fun playing it after Demon's Souls and appreciating all of the improvements. I'd die for Hawkeye Gough.

immediately realized i was gonna fall in love with this one in the very first minute when you fight Sanctuary Guardian. The areas are more or less the same as base game so no complaints there but my god are the bosses in here such an improvement. Absolutely no misses. The amount of adrenaline i felt while fighting Kalameet and Artorias is just unmatched.

most disgusting game i've ever played. 5 stars

so in love with movies, TV, music, Max Payne, Twin Peaks, Stephen King, survival horror, but most of all, so in love with itself.

Remedy's finally done it, this game essentially feels like what Sam Lake's been envisioning since 2005. It's no secret that Remedy loves this character, this world, this series in general, I'm so glad they finally got to go all out with it. I'm so glad THIS is the Alan Wake they have finally managed to make.

I didn't get into Remedy until i played Max Payne 1 back in 2021, and I didn't fully understood what they were about until i finally peeped the second Max Payne and the first Alan Wake last year. It became instantly so clear to me that there is a clear vision, love, passion in all of their games that they loved showing to their audience and I love that about em. Everything about their storytelling, their way of making games, their way of blending mediums together, it's like they're specifically trying to appeal to me.

What can I even say about a game that has possibly the best sequence I've ever experienced in a videogame not being even the best part about it. Does this make sense? It does to me. This game is special, go play it. (or wait if you're on pc, i can't fully recommend playing this through the pc port, still worth it though).

It's a spiral

AND SHE WALKED IN, LOOKING LIKE DYNAMITE

SHE SAID "NOW COME ALONG, BOOGALOO THROUGH THE NIGHT"

AND BY THE WAY SHE'S MOVING, WELL, DYNAMITE

MIGHT SHE NOT, WITH ALL SHE'S GOT

SHE'S GOT THE WHOLE TOWN LIGHTING UP DYNAMITE

NOBODY QUITE KNOWING WHAT TO DO, WRONG OR RIGHT

BUT THEY ALL KNOW JESSE IS DYNAMITE

THEY'RE RIGHT!

PEAKKKKKKKKKKKKKK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK okay i do have some problems with it like the pacing and the structure forcing you to do side stuff (despite the side stuff being REALLY fucking good in this game) but holy shit dude

FLEETING DREAM

super glad i played this one instead of starting with dark souls 1. rlly neat game despite the occasional jank, never overstays its welcome and is very impressive with the variety of stages that are rarely similar to each other

also that atmosphere...my lord
