Ojboyo
I'm starting a playthrough of the franchise in canon order and this was a great place to start. The locations, stories and challenges fit well together, all bound by a valiant attempt at showcasing the Wii remote, unfortunately that's where the biggest complaint lies. I hope they end up remaking this at the point motion controls are perfect.
Open world for the sake of open world.
Looks beautiful but engaging gameplay is spread too thinly.
The divine beasts and their mechanics look so promising! And then it's over in 10 minutes!
(I've played this slightly out of order, but I was given a chance to borrow a Switch so I took it. I suspect I will give this another chance further down the line)

It's impossible for me review this with emotional detachment;
I can still feel the cartridge weighing so much more than Mario Kart 64.
I can still remember meeting my best friend every day to compare progress (I fell behind at the Water Temple).
I'm still bitter that a teacher confiscated my Nintendo mag that told me how to play the Simpsons theme on the Ocarina.
But I think even 25 years on... this game is still pretty decent!
It's aged fairly well, the hardest part of combat is keeping the camera onside. Just wholesome fun 😂

The main problem is that it's one of the dumbest games I've ever played.
But on the plus side; it's one of the dumbest games I've ever played.
I'm convinced there was a huuuuge idea for this game that they were forced to abandon and had to stitch together what they had.
Not one part of the plot makes sense but it doesn't matter because you can just float between challenges forever 😂

This is arcade MGS and that's ok.
A slightly-sneaky shooter with a management side game.
Some... interesting progression choices; final chapter is locked behind previously optional missions; I love/hate that you build Zeke by defeating bosses alternative ways.
My least fave canon 3D MGS by a fair distance and it still gets a 3*, what a franchise.
