A good old fashioned beat’em up.

It was fun, lots of characters to choose from, although not weighted appropriately leveling. There’s not really anywhere to grind unless you are playing the infinity challenges or playing the same levels over and over again.

This ends meaning your main party will have to be with the characters you acquire during progression, so you may wind up beating the game with Ghost Rider, Storm, Black Panther, and then another character you feel is worth of using the rare XP cubes. That was sort of lame.

Story was simple, but a good twist on the films that have come out. We get to travel all over the marvel universe, and meet tons of different heroes and villains. Lots of unlockables.

Onto the DLC next.

Super Mario RPG (Switch) - A shot for shot remake of the SNES cult favorite. Lots of QOL improvements, loved the rerecorded OST using a live orchestra, and the boss rush post-game. However, as a remake, it played it a little -too safe- imo.

An additional side quest? Maybe some additional recorded voice sounds (not full VA.) idk, just a bit more to make the experience feel a bit less like the original with a fresh coat of paint.

a plot heavy Zelda origin.

Surprisingly poor controls, which I am sure is because they reverse engineered the motion controls to the Switch for the remaster. Also a dungeon crawler, no open world. Lots of retreading territory.

To be clear, I enjoyed this game a lot, but the awful control scheme really detracted from the experience.

Not my fav Zelda game.

fairly creepy science fiction/horror visual novel. Voice acting is terrific - one con is essentially have to repeat the 4 hour story 5-6 times to see all the endings

Full of charm, this is a pretty clever way to remake some of the top down 2D adventures. Simple controls, and a really quick journey - it has everything you expect from a Zelda game though.

I’ve played Civ VI on multiple platforms. It’s relatively intuitive for a beginner and there is a depth to the strategy in both the upper difficulties and scenarios that will satisfy a veteran. There’s a reason “one more turn” is a mantra for players.

The Switch version isn’t great, unfortunately. Lots of pop-up. The loading is ~excruciating~ and frequent, especially a session set on marathon on a large map.

I also think the diplomatic negotiations and cultural domination aspects have been nerfed in this version?

Love the game, get it on PC or a more powerful platform.

An all-time classic for a reason. I played the Switch release, and it was an excellent experience.

Good character development
Iconic soundtrack
Tons of secrets (sort of miss that element of JRPGs in modern games)

-story was not quite as masterful as I remember. In fact, it really loses steam in the back half.
-ending was ambiguous but solid. Shouldn’t need a book or a spin-off for clarification, though.

Enjoyed it!

An anime SoulsLike, I really enjoyed the bonkers story, and companion system. Blocking was useless, but had a real tangible sense of action.

A couple improvements would be a World with more NPCs (maybe even a few towns/cities like a traditional JRPG, so lore clarity, and more interesting/varied level design)

Like it a lot though!

10/10 for aesthetics, 5/10 for everything else

I enjoyed my 5 hour trip to a Kurosawa film, though.

this is Horizon Zero Dawn starring anthropomorphic gerbils and narrated by an old British guy. Very weird, and kind of a slog. The developers took too big of a swing.

Not far from a very basic point and click game. The SFX were the best part, play it with headphones.

interesting twist on the FF formula. Pretty much non-existent and incoherent storytelling in an otherwise challenging and competent action RPG. I NEED TO KILL CHAOS!

Played on the Switch Emulator. Pretty good! Good platforming, like all good Mario games should have. A little short, though.

A western high fantasy game from the minds of Japanese creators. A pretty nonsense main story with interesting side quests and some truly epic action. Hoping they fix fast travel for the new one.

a gorgeous remake of the 2002 game. Steeped in prohibition era style with incredible graphics, excellent voice acting, and a plot that makes you feel like you are in a Scorsese film. Very clunky controls, tho.
