Ultimately just way too repetitive - it hooked me initially with a great style and interesting squad building & balancing mechanics, but the combat and overworld cycles are locked in rhythms that are just way too predictable to engage with regularly. A higher level of difficulty and more RNG in combat would have made the whole thing more interesting - the game wants you to solve the problems of each encounter by finding the correct configuration of units to counter the enemy squad, and ultimately this just becomes too simple and rote to be compelling.

This is the version that I settled for, and I don't regret a single time Yukari didn't want to heal.

I bought this game on a whim bruh, that 2nd half is insane.

The artwork and art direction just takes this to the next level and beyond. Character interactions are given so much weight because of the animated sprites. Body language quirks and small gestures are in the limelight of its design. It's marvelous. Why isn't there more of this in the video game medium? The despair!

young man, you are not allowed to leave this table until you finish your unfinished freeform experimental jrpg and you like it

random fact: asellus was the first queer video game character i ever encountered, so that's cool

The way the game's chapters are all separate stories is incredibly cool, i gotta play the remake some day.

Might just have to put this on my best of all time list. This was such a good game... I really hope they release SO Blue Sphere soon as well. Either as DLC or as a full release. I need more Claude and Rena. But yeah besides Blue Sphere, I have now finished every Star Ocean game! Woooo!

A great game and a great sequel to Hotel Dusk: Room 215. While the cast was somewhat weaker than Hotel Dusk, the mystery and story were better and more engrossing this time.

Sad that this was Cing’s last game though.

i lived for the chapters with mila
