Why is the metroid franchise so fucking good guys?

Like seriously, all the metroid game I played so far are, at the very least, good. And even if it probably wont be the case once I play metroid other M or even the original one of the NES, the remake of the latter genuinely is extremely good.

If you told me that you could turn the slow and confusing original metroid into a fast pace, rewarding and great looking game with really good level design, I wouldn't have believed you, and yet, here we are.

Samus in this game control. Just. Incredibly well. Unlike super Metroid, where its age kinda shows sometimes, this one just control flawlessly start to end. Every move is responsive, aiming is precise and the speed and momentum of samus is just right. I would even argue that this game feels even better to play than Fusion, but more so because the level design of Zero mission is fundamentally better, which was something I didn't expected for the remake of a NES game. While the world of Fusion was fine, but admittedly not as fun to explore due to its very linear design, zero mission, while still having a main route to follow, allows you to take actual shortcut and to find secret item more frequently, by making use of every single move that Samus possess more frequently than fusion ever did.

But while the game feels spectacular to play, has incredible level design, and of course, wonderful visual, the game still has two shortcomings: the soundtrack, that I found oddly unremarkable for a metroid game, and the bossfight, that, while have their fairshare of goodbossfight (Kraid, mecha Ridley) suffer from really easy bossfight (Ridley, all the mini-boss) or, in the case of motherbrain, really bullshity gameplay. Those two points are probably caused by what the original metroid did, but those are still kind of low point for it.

But, without being said, the remake still add a lot of things to compensate, such has brand new cutscenes, who had context and even a bit of lore to what you are doing, and even a post game sequence where you have to infiltrate the space pirate's base to recover a ship and your armor that you lost after being takedown by them after your fight against motherbrain. Infiltrating the base, while trying to survive while you only have a stun gun and places to hide, before tearing apart the whole base once you recover your armour, plus other abilities that you previously couldn't use was fantastic, and a tremendous way of ending this wonderful remake.

All in all, while one of two red dot rear their ugly heads, its still an awesome remake that you should definitely play over the original game. Original game that I am now going to try to finish. Hurrayyyy

Omg there is barely any strategy in this.

Between the very limited board, in both mechanics, design and number of board, how ridiculously easy it is to grab a star in this, how long and tedious the game feels to play and the minigames who overtake the entire thing, there is barely any reason to play the board game mode. Its just too random and lacking.

But idk its still fun and tense. The minigames are fine. Racing to get the star is fine. Its decently engaging...but thats it really

I barely have anything to say really. Its just extremely ok and nothing else.

What a game.

Even though i haven't played all the metroid game yet, I think I can still confidently say that this...is the peak of the franchise.

The original managed to make the perfect conversion of a metroid game in the 3rd dimensions...and this remaster... basically keep every great about the original, but wrap everything with a gorgeous overall of the visual...to the point that I can't consider this game a simple remaster...It's a straight up remake.

This games world...is just incredible to explore. Every corner of it feels natural and yet so well design with dozens of things to discover or to come back to later on in the game with new abilities or knowledge to master this incredible masterclass of a world design.

Samus just feel great to control. Aside for some weird but extremely rare problem with the physics, this game makes controlling her so immersive and satisfying to boot. And every single ability you unlock are useful in their own way: between the graplin hook or the gravity ball that allow you more freedom to explore the world, the various weapon with theirs pros and cons, the different kind of vision you can use for puzzle or even in combat to spot certain enemy...this game has it all.

Also, unlike metroid prime 3 (that I also loved btw), this game give you so much more freedom about how you will explore this world. As soon as you unlock one ability, 3 doors opens, and each door will leads you to other doors that may or may not great you reserve or new ability for you to play with.

And the bossfight are fantastic, and the music immersive and yet memorable at the same time. And the enemy variety is great and god, this game is just fantastic.

Ultimately, it still have some issue, like the not always satisfying hunt for the artifact, or the rather simple enemy encounter that, while fun, can be kinda tedious sometimes, but other than that, this game is flawless.

And If this serv has some kind of teaser for metroid prime 4...omg...

The folder was empty, is the game stupid?

This is the last indie game (franchise) belonging in the "beloved indie game trio with an overlapping community" that i ever completed...the first two of which were celeste and hollow knight, two of the most acclaimed video game ever conceived, but, even thought i completely see why this one is often in the same talk with one of the most engaging metroidvania game from its generation (hollow knight)and with...litteraly my favorite game ever made (celeste), I think this game...isnt as great as both. Dont get me wrong there are a lot of exceptionnal element, such has this atmosphere...omg i wish i could eat this atmosphere. This is one of the most gorgeous thing that have ever been conceived by a human being : like, those visual, couple with the lighting, just work exceptionally well, to the point that it become one of the most alive feeling game i have ever seen. And when the OST start to kick in, You can really feel all sort of emotion while listening to it. But, a magnificient presentation doesnt make everything, and, i gotta say, i feel like some mechanics and some part of the level design have some...problem, lets just Say: when both work, especially together, it create a immaculate flow to everything : between well designed puzzle, servicable platform sequence, impeccable chase sequence, and of course the satisfaction when using ori's ability, when the game works, it does fantastically....but this game has a lot of moment of jank : some moves refuse to activate sometimes(i especially had trouble with the teather, that sometimes had a weird lag, or sometimes just didnt work, particularly in mid-air) making some sequence that should be easy harder for all the wrong reason, the combat mechanic that is just ok, with in one hand, a decent amount of way to attack a enemy, but in the other hand doesnt feel that good to use (a big problem for a metroidvania game), bossfight that tend to be too easy and annoying at the same time, and, believe it or not, a scrolling that sometimes...stop working for no reason. If you couple all of this with little detail and some annoying platformint sequence, what you get is a gorgeous world, fun to engage with 60% of the Time...held back by some stupid element, to the point that I...wasnt that much into world exploring. This wasnt help by the fact that, for a metroidvania game, it was really linear to me: unlike super metroid and especially hollow knight, i felt like that the game more often or not, set a lot of required path in order to progress, making the whole world less engaging to me

Ultimatly, i still had a decent Time, and again, gorgeous game, with good gameplay overall, and, a nice conclusion, but man it could have been so much better without the linearity and the janky element

Also this game doesnt have funny même, unlike its two sister game, come on, where are my hidden gem and random character become a icon joke?

Althought this dlc get 4 star, its more due to the quality of mario kart 8's gameplay than the track themself: the mechanic of this game are so good that they manage to raise the score of this DLC by at least an half star.

Because yeah, this DLC was sometimes rough : when the track didnt look like shit, they were sometimes really poorly remade : by that I mean that the lack of efforts and change made to some track made them worse. Some track even lack some of their original gimmick or track design(bangkok rush, sky garden, koopa cap, sunset wild...). And sometimes, some track pick were really questionnable (daisy circuit, mario circuit, toad circuit...wait, they are all circuit).

But, even with all of this: the DLC is great. A lot of great remake and "original" track were made and saved on mario kart 8 Deluxe thanks to this DLC: yoshi's island in particular is now in my top 5 favorite track in all of mario kart. When Nintendo cared, they really cooked for those track, giving us something really special... althought flawn

And, if you add to the equation the new character, mii costume, jukebox, custom item and all the little life improving change created for this DLC, make it worth it

Amsterdam Drift still suck, sorryyyyy

When i started playing this game...i was honestly kinda bored. The first level was fine, and had a creative setup and theme, but the platforming itself really felt unengaging and i was thinking to myself : is this game really special ?

9 hours later, i can safely say that: yes, it damn is

Lets talk about the whale in the room: the mind you explore are exceptionnal level : after that first level, they all have interesting concept, gimmick, stories to tell, layout, atmosphere, theme, visual...EVERYTHING ! That manage to convey the struggle that all of the character's mind have to struggle with, and give them more personality that anything from the story alone could have give them, making them super creative and engaging, on top of a pretty solid level design that enhance the story and gameplay, turning them into beautiful allegory about mental health and struggle

In general, the psychologycal and mind aspect of this game are just so well utilised : they are not only very well used in the level themself, but also outside of them, and manage to turn a pretty simple premise into something really unic, and, while flawed, turn the story into something truly engaging in a way i wasnt expecting

The character are also really solid...for the most part: i couldnt care less about the intern (aside from sam), and the cast from the first kinda take a step back, but the rest of the cast all have something funny, quirky, interesting, layered things to tell, making them really likeable and believable

Of course, the game isnt perfect, like, i feel like some psy power arent as usefull as other, and i also had few instance of janks (the movement or depht perception for example arent always great), and the combat is really mediocre, but i'll be damn, this is one of the most unic platformer i have ever played, despite its flaws, and some of those level alone are worth the price

Also, shoutout to Richard Horvitz for having the greatest fucking voice ever, he carry his role so hard

Ok, i know this game looks like a bad game, but...yeah no, youre all right, this game is kinda poodoo

So why am i giving this 7 stars? Well its simple : its just stupidly to mess with it: like, sure, the main story is kinda shit, and loaded with useless character, scapegoat or event that mess with the pacing, and also contain lots of really annoying mission that.. honestly fucking suck in some instance

BUT this game is fun when you just mess around and start to commit random bullshit around the...legitimatly well designed map, map that also is quite large and impressive for a gba game, and yeah, part of the fun come from the jank of the game itself, like, for example, how physics in this game are just wild, and how the ai is just completely stupid....yeah, idk, this game is pretty fun

Is it a good game? Certainly not in the way intended, but despite of all its problems, it managed to remain fun and engaging

It honestly kinda remind me of Borderlands 3 in a sense, where, despite all the garbage that can be found in this game, the gameplay is just so fun that it managed to be good, somehow

Tho Borderlands is legit well design, but thats beside the point

TLDR: this is the worst gta ever made, and i like it

I played this game a long time ago, buuuut i didnt care enough to write a review about it

Like, its a call of a duty, alright, and i mean: sure, the multiplayer is better than the one present in current call of duty, sure, the campaign is alright, and sure, the sort of mission mode was alright too...but, at the end of the day, even if its one of the better entry in the series... it still blands in with over fps made at the time

I have nothing else to say, over than proudly saying that i was right by killing shepherd in the tutorial

This game is...kinda good, but also...kinda not?

Like, presentation wise, the game is honestly pretty good, colorfull, with very creative track theme and music, but the lisibility of it is really mediocre, especially when the screen shake (shoutout to snow Land), to the point that they needed to implement arrow that show up before turn...IF YOU NEED TO USE ARROW TO GUIDE THE PLAYER, IT MEANS THAT THERE IS A A PROBLEM SOMEWHERE (shoutout to bubsy 3d)

As for the gameplay, in one hand, the trach design is legit really good, with creative layout and especially shorcut for a flat mario kart, (unlike the track from super mario kart, who are conveniently enough in this game as well, showing us the clear difference of quality between the two game design), but the control are really messy and slippery: like, thé drift is really slippery, and even going straight is kinda messy, making it really sloppy to play

So...yeah, to keep it short: its a fusion between the worst of super mario kart, and the best of Mario kart 64, making it the most mid game in the franchise

But hey, at least, this game have the best version of sunset wild and sky garden lmao

This is gonna be hard to review for me, because I usually dont spoil anything in my reviews, and its a visual novel, but TLDR, despite the fact that I dont like at all visual novel, this one is shockingly incredible

Despite the really short lenght of this one, the game's story manage to be engaging and memorable, and even if, at first, the game seems REALLY simple, it really isnt

I REALLY love how the game evolve as the story progress, and when i mean the game, i dont just mean the story, i also mean the entirety of it, and the creator of this game herself

Again, no spoil, but that true ending is fucking worth the small price alone

You know what ? Fuck it, i give it 4 stars, because it just perfectly execute what it sets out to do, and please, dont let the game thinks that its simpler than it truly is : its beauty is hidden, and you will have to dig it throught to make it shine

Also, lesbanism...yeah, im just saying that in honor of one of my friend who recommended the game to me ;)

This game is considered a sort of swan swung for the super nintendo, and does it deserve to be that game?

Sorta, and i will explain why

So, obviously, the artstyle is amazing... shocking i know. In fact, i think its succeed his artbook aesthetic so well that it outshine other stylised game on the snes like yoshi island : the game is just super pleasing to look at...and its the only place where the game isnt outshine by the two main kirby game between it: superstar and 64

Yeah, lets get this out of the way: to me, this game is so close of 64 in a lot of aspect that it could almost be considered like a sorta kirby 63, if that make sense. Im just saying that:

They share a lot of the soundtrack (64 did it better tho)
They share a same antagonist
They share some level idea (the pyramide for instance)
They share a ton of copy ability
They both have a combining ability system in some way
They both ignore the change superstar made on the core gameplay

But what they dont share on the other hand is how they handle level design : 64 is loaded with memorable level due to their theme, gimmick or just, by how fun the level design just was...dreamland 3, on the other hand...doesnt have that much memorable level? I mean, i feel like i star to remember one or two level after the fourth World...yax. legit, the only two things dreamland 3 has over 64 is the fact that i prefer juuuuuust a little bit how kirby play, but i like both so it doesnt change much, and the companion, but, and its a unpopular opinion, i know, but i dont like playing as them that much? Like, conceptually, they are good, and the fact that you can combo them with copy ability to have new one are good, but, other than the cat one, i feel like the control are kinda sluggish with all the other. Plus, i dont like most of the combo they have with copy ability so thats a other point against it. Btw, the copy ability in this game are probably my least favorite in all the kirby game i played so far: adventure had more, superstar also had more too, and they felt incredible to use AND they had entire moveset each, 64 had the combining mecanic, forgotten land had more, had the moveset and a upgrade system, and even dream course, a game that i really dont like, had a very cool way to handle the copy ability

Finally, 64 and this game share something else : terrible collectable, but they are actively worse here, because at least, in 64, they were easy to understand, and you could have most of them in your first run, but here? Each level had one star to collect, and most of them are painfull and easy to miss
...their only value are the cameo from other game...i mean hell, the only of the gems i liked was the one where you had to kill Metroid, because i love metroid, its a really good franchise, except when its not i guess

Anyway, this game is still really fun, but it has A LOT holding back for being actually great

Ok, lets get this out of the way: this is probably one of the only game ever that I passionatly hate, and so for a lot of reason

The monetisation of this game is one of the most predatory one i have ever saw in any game...like, you thought battlefront 2 and overwatch 2 were awful about this? Well damn, this right here is probably worse, with his constant pop up and all the very expensive skin that you can only have with those dreaded robux...this problem is what make this game straight up immoral to me, and not just god awful, because, remember, lots of young kids play this, and the fact that this game is so aggresive about his monetisation, despite the young target audience it has, make roblox straight up disgusting....AT LEAST, BATTLEFRONT 2 AND OVERWATCH 2 WERENT TARGETTED TOWARD CHILDREN

also, the community is a disgrace, not because of the children, of course, but because this fucking game is just full of paedo and far right edgelord...and because the game is straight up dictated by the community, yeah, it kinda make the game fucking awful

Oh yeah, i was supposed to talk about the game itself...what i am supposed to say about it? Its just a collection of lobby, and only like 10% of those lobby are actually decent, and the rest are ...I mean, what do you expect from a toxic and GREEDY community, full of...questionnable individual, whose only goal is to make the next trending game on the website ? Yeah, i dont need to explain the average quality of the lobbies there

The only reason why it isnt rank lower is because, again, some game are like, fiiiine, and because the game builder is unironically pretty good for beginners, and finally because of the existence of r/gocommitdie...sure this subreddit is super cringe, but at least it is funny bad, and dont make me wanna kill myself...

You know what, thats what i would have liked roblox to be : a joke game, like garten of banban or fist of jesus, not a toxic and immoral cashgrab, borderline similar to a casino full of safety hasard for children

Fuck this shit, im out

Honestly, i was really close to give this one a 7/10, but the story and the atmosphere of this game are so good that they easely secure this game at a 8/10

The story isnt complex or anything, but all the dialogu that samus have with the AI (especially in the ending) or herself, the urgency behind everything you do in the game, the ominous presence of the SA-X, the impeccable atmosphere, that almost make you feel like you play a horror game...its all great stuff, and they are easely the highlight of the game

As for the presentation, and thats maybe an unpopular opinion, but they are far from the best in the franchise: sure, the environnement looks good and varied, and they often enhance the atmosphere, but, idk, the environnement lack that sort of...mystical aura that other game in the franchise have (the prime trilogy, super metroid...). Obviously, its still good, but idk, to me, they are more in the same level as metroid dread: good, but not incredible (same goes for the soundtrack : good but not Amazing). The creature design are exceptionnal thought : the new creature all have that unic design that make them standout compared to the rest of the franchise, and enhance the fact that they are sort of...unatural and extremely dangerous... because yeah...for once, samus feels...less in control that usual, and even become the prey in some instance (for example, with the clone), and even when she aint, she get caught in traps or goes against insane bossfight that almost left her dead more often than usual...yeah, this game is incredible at creating dread (pun intended lol) to the player

Speaking of insane boss, lets talk about the thing that almost made the game drop half a star: the gameplay. Ok, i love metroid prime 3: sure the game is really linear, but i felt like the linearity, wasnt as intrusive as in this game. I cannot explain why, but, in Fusion in particular, i felt like the linearity was more...intrusive and a obstacle to the experience. Sure, sometimes, the game drop the linearity (when you have to get the spreading effect thing for the missile for example), but the game doesnt allow you to explore and discover things that much (outside from optional collectable, i mean). The linearity isnt bad, but to me, it kinda make the game a bit worse...but the main problem i have with this game is when it decide to just become annoyingly difficult, like with certain bossfight or some section, and when i mean annoyingly, i mean when the game doesnt allow you to see something that might hurt or kill you, due to the screencrunch, the fact that the gba lack buttons, therefore making certain move trickier to pull off and the game not that precise when you dont have room to manoeuvre, or when the game decide to throw dozens of things at you for no reason: unpopular opinion, i guess, but i really didnt like nightmare bossfight for those reason: the screencrunch made avoiding the charge of this enormous boss harder and almost random, the lesser precise gameplay made me panic, and the fact that sometime, he was straight up unavoidable (add to that skill issue) and that hitbox were kinda weird in this bossfight, and yeah, i didnt have a good time. Again, the gameplay is still good and very enjoyable like 90% of the Time (i wouldnt give this 8/10 otherwise), and honestly, the fact that this game can be hard enhance the ominous atmosphere, but yeah, sometimes the game was straight up non fun

I was really harsh in this last paragraph, but thats probably not deserved, because the game is still great: its fun, the atmosphere is on point, the story is interesting, the présentation is solid, it feel good to play, for the most part, and is overall a good metroid game (better than metroid prime 3, honestly, but i prefer it, because im bias, stfu)

Props for this game for not making Adam insufferable thought, and for having a great characterisation of samus.... BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE A CERTAIN GAME HAD ISSUES IN THAT REGARD

Garten of peakpeak was too hard, but thank god, this one is way easier

No seriously, this game is really solid, and honestly succeed at what he attended to do: this is a REALLY tough as nail shoot and up, working on the concept of changing color to avoid damage from certain colored bullet, and this concept...is great ! It forces you to keep attention on what is going on in the game, it make the action super ectic, it allow the level design to be really creative...and the game...is just a blast, notably due to this great concept (and of course, the great visual and soundtrack compliment the awesome gameplay)

Not a lot to say: just a very good shoots and up, and the only reason why it doesnt get more stars...is just because im not that much of a shoots and up person, but otherwise, if you are into ultra hard and endearing japanese shoots and up, GO PLAY IT
