Quick fun game with pretty good climbing mechanics. Really liked the parts where you climb for long segments with no actual rests. Thats when it was the most difficult but also felt like there was more at stake in the climb. Pretty short, was able to beat in a couple hours. Wish there was more to go back to besides replaying the chapters to get 100%. I'd probably being going back to it regularly if there was more stuff to climb but the story reached its end and thats alright.
The sequel improves in all aspects compared to Spider-Man 1 and SM: Miles Morales. The story is great and has memorable moments throughout. Combat has improved with the removal of radial item system in favor of pure button combos, though parrying never felt great. The combat gets better as the story continues and makes it even more fun. Traversal through the city is 10x better and it was already very good in the previous games. Fast traveling was an after thought because of how effortlessly you can swing and fly through the map. Regarding the map, although its the same New York City, the expansion into other neighborhoods and the higher level of detail makes the city feel absolutely massive and a blast to swing through. The story does have some weird pacing, with excessive back to back boss fights at times that are exhausting and it just gets stale. However, some of the grander fights are incredible and a step up from the last games. Yuri Lowenthal took it to the next level with his performance as Peter and he stood out among the cast of characters. I take off half a star only because the game still has a handful of side objectives that are reallly boring and I had to push myself through them. There are still other side missions that are fun and they also greatly improved MJ's playable parts and expanded her character which I enjoyed. I appreciate that the story doesn't over extend itself and never feels like its dragging on. It feels like you can finish it quick but its action packed and doesn't slow down which makes it feel like full and complete game. Yet again Insomniac does not fail to deliver a polished and fun gaming experience.
