Here's my explanation:

These games were accessible - as in, it was easy to find them. They were already installed on computers at your favorite lanhouse, or the tent that selled pirated DVDs in front of your school had like a thousand copies of it, or your parents bought them because they were adaptations of very popular shows they knew their kids enjoyed.

That may also explain why some games that are considered quite important, even classics elsewhere seem to have been forgotten by many but are still held in high regard in Brazil. Like Prince of Persia, which seemingly was installed at every school computer in existence, or Ragnarok Online, whose CD came in cereal boxes and magazines and the like.

Oh, and does Little Fighter 2 counts? Me and my brother played it a lot, but I don't know if it was actually that popular.

I agree with Lucas. Most of these games we played almost by accident: the CD was forgotten on some drawer by a parent or older sibling, or something like that, and we played the shit out of it. In the case of Master System and Mega Drive games, there was Tec Toy, and they made sure the whole BR played some games, despite how niche they could be internationally.
