I'll always stand by Kirby's Epic Yarn being one of the most misunderstood games in the series. Most people look at the game's difficulty from a very binary "death=losing" point of view, which is a shame since the collection element of the game feels like it opens up a whole new world of challenge to it. It's not the hardest out there, the design of the game is really clever with how it makes you be careful if you're going for gold medals. That said, I think this version compromises the game's design by letting you basically brute force your way through various puzzles that gate away collectibles. The way they're implemented is also pretty haphazard, with a lot of instances where a Waddle Dee is just standing still holding the power up. I think the ones where Prince Fluff jumps in to provide power ups are really cute, though.

The new inclusions in general are pretty superfluous. Devilish mode is more annoying than anything else, far from the best solution they could've used to address criticisms of the game's difficulty. The side games with Meta Knight and Dedede are decently fun, even if they kind of rubbed me the wrong way in how they'd spoil the surprise of them showing up in the game. (Especially since that very surprise left a strong impression on me when I first played the game) They still gave me the vibe of "this doesn't need to be here", especially since Epic Yarn on its own is already pretty packed with content.

I usually hate having this sentiment with 3DS games, since I think DS/3DS games usually make really good use of their two screens, but I consistently had a feeling of "why wasn't this put on the Switch?" as I went through it. Aside from using the touch screen to place objects in the apartments, it doesn't take advantage of the two screens at all, even in places where it could've. Making this for the Switch would've also helped with its framerate, where even on a New 3DS it's locked at 30FPS compared to the Wii's 60 and TANKS during certain boss fights. So much of this release feels like a waste, which is a serious shame since the game on it's own is a really great time. I appreciate it giving me an excuse to use my 3DS again, though. I've been meaning to get around to games I have stockpiled on it.

The abilities are fun but man Hard Mode is ass. Like you're getting comfy but then OH NO THE DARK YARN ENEMY IS HERE BETTER CHANGE THE MUSIC UNTIL IT DIES only for it to happen again 20 seconds later.

and beating every level at full health is required for completion, so that Tank level with the meteors becomes extra frustrating since it amounts to luck whether you get hit or not.

Other than that it's Kirby's Epic Yarn but they tried too hard to address the complaints.

Yep, that's what making a feel good game more action oriented and on a system with lower resolution and a smaller screen will do!

A great adaptation of a childhood classic. Plays great (minus the train power up, really should have used the touch screen...)

The game did stutter when too many beads were on the screen. Even on my New 3DS XL 😅

A good adaptation of what I’d consider Kirby’s best spinoff. It’s just as charming and just as fun (and just as surprisingly difficult, at times). There’s a lot to do and even more if you plan on 100%ing the game. If you haven’t played Epic Yarn yet and you don’t have a Wii, then this isn’t a bad way to go about trying it out.

An adorable game whose level design starts to wear out it's welcome by the end of the 9 hours.

WIRE O MAS BIEN TU NUEVO DIOS.

I played through the first world but didn't really have any motivation to continue. it wasn't bad but didn't feel super engaged. Rip

Beautiful even on the low resolution screen of 3DS and I liked the addition of powerups in this version. Impossibly chill game, so relaxing all the time. The bosses could be a bit better telegraphed but are all fun too and the callbacks to the old games in the last world are really appreciated.

not technically finished yet, but i get the idea of how i'm gonna feel after its over. this game is super charming with a really cute artstyle. i've never actually played any kirby games before and my extent of him is going "wow he's so cute" when someone shares miscellaneous screenshots or videos of him, but i've wanted to dabble in the series for a while! the plot i dont care for, but the game itself has been pretty fun.

the controls are kinda weird. not the actual button mapping, but how they feel. i always associate platformers with having really tight, snappy controls since thats what feels best imo but i mean, its kirby so he's gonna be pretty floaty. that's not really a problem for me, but i do hate how slippery he can feel. some of the levels in this are genuinely not very fun because of it and finding the stickers or the level icon things can be really annoying when the slippery controls make you fall really far back in a level or into a death pit you really shouldn't have hit. its not a skill issue because while i am definitely not super great at this game, just tapping the d-pad shouldn't send me flying off the cliff ... maybe its my inexperience with the genre overall thats leading me to have trouble with this stuff, but it really makes me dislike some of these levels. i like that they all have their own gimmicks and the boss fights have been, while unexpected, really fun.

this game is nothing super special but its decently short, not too difficult, and very cute. i think some of the level design is tedious in an unfun way, but generally i don't have to think too hard when attempting one for the first time. it's just okay.

Somebody thought it would be real cute to make a platformer that honks a car horn at you every time you move left or right.

I don't really understand why this version was even made. The new stuff they added doesn't really do a good job implementing them so it feels very slapped in, and the side games of neat I guess.

Still a great game but the extra powerups make an already easy game into an even easier game. The extras don't add much. Even so this game is very cuddly and fun and definitely recommend no matter the platform.

game is not extra epic, it is only as epic as the original, which is still ok i guess

Such a confusing port. Nothing was very memorable about Epic Yarn aside from its artstyle, but it was a good platformer I guess. I can see some semblance of difficulty throughout some later segments of the game, but aside from that it's pretty easy to breeze through if not going for collectibles.

Solid game. I originally didn't like Epic Yarn because I bought it as a "don't wanna walk away from Gamestop emptyhanded" game because copies of RTDL were outta stock.

Playing this port now though I'm more appreciative of the game being more of its own thing. I found the game pretty cozy to play through. It was more of a breeze with the ravel powerups.

My main gripe with this port though is the lack of options. Should've allowed you to mix and match stuff like disabling abilities to maintain the original experience or disabling the devil to just keep the healthbar. The removal of 2 player was also unfortunate.

Overall a different kind of fun and cozy time and a servicable port. But I feel like they should've brought this over to the switch as an eshop release.

I grew up with and adored the original. However, the new hat mechanics here bother me. I feel like they detracted more than they added to the game. Still fantastic level design and soundtrack, though you can tell the hats were an afterthought.

Kirby Epic Yarn but again, yea there isn't really a reason for this game to exist, it's not bad and doesn't ruin Epic Yarn which is why it's the same score as it, but it's just Epic Yarn, if you played Epic Yarn you don't need to play this, but if you haven't then you have another option outside of the Wii game

the game has everything that made the wii version fantastic to me - plus some little extras that came with the new release.
we have some new abbilities for kirby that he gets by putting on hats. i dont think this was necessary to add, as we already had the several transformations throughout the levels. it made the game harder and, once you reached a point with a transformation, had more of an "op" feeling. this feeling is now completely gone, as now the levels aren't really a challenge anymore.
the new modes seem fine to me but put in there just half heartedly.
but what do you expect of one of the last 3ds game releases, right?
its a nice revisit while it lasts, but other than that the wii version is still the best to play it. :)

Haven't played the Wii version in long enough to include it on my profile, but it was always my absolute favorite Kirby game. While this takes a graphical hit, it doesn't change that this is still my favorite Kirby game and one of my favorite games ever! Heck, I would maybe even prefer this over the original thanks to the fun side modes.

good as the wii version but i dont like the abilities that made it easier??? good thing you dont have to use them though

actually good port. Don't know why it landed on the 3ds instead of the switch but that's irrelevant. My biggest problem is that fucking demon bugger shitty ass mode (devilish mode idfk what it's called). Why is it a requirement for 100%? Just why? The concept behind it is neato and I dig it. Adding "Difficulty" to an ez game. Cool! It's just integrated in a very dumb way. There are these 5 crystal shards on the touchscreen and if you get hit, you lose one. Get hit - you lose one. Take all 5 of em to the end of the level and earn prizes. Also uh there is some hyperpornographic little fucker periodically spawning somewhere. Every about 15 seconds the great "10 hours of comfy nintendo music to empty your head to" playlist just stops to have this stupid, annoying DÜMDÜDÜDÜMDÜM, DÜDÜDÜDÜMDÜM, DÜM DÜM DÜM DÜ DÜM DÜDÜDÜM. From this actually ok track you will most likely almost never get past the first 10 secs. It is so goshdarn annoying. The devil himself is ez. He isn't that big of a shot. Clearing the level in the devilish difficulty nets you the normal clear and progress in form of the crystals that you took with you over da finish line. Well. Shitty rng-dependant hits will fuck you over rather harshly. Playing the normal mode, getting all the treasures n shit, then playing the devilish mode would be the solution, right? Well... I dislike doing the exact same thing twice. I could just leave the hyperpornograpgic little debased fucker mode for later and do them at a later point of time but uh... yeah I could do that, but that wouldn't change da fact, that it still is basically the exact same level with few to no changes while having a little debased fucker following you through the level. The other extra modes are basically auto scrolling sections with ddd / meta knight but still quite cool.
TL-DR: Acceptable port, weird choice of extra modes

Fine game! Looks absolutely beautiful, even on the tiny screen of the original 3DS. Very easy, but that's kinda what they were going for here so it's hard to critique it on that. Especially with how many collectables there are and the hard mode option for each level.

Kinda rushed through it, which made for quite the short experience, but there's extra levels and plenty of side content waiting for me if I decide to go back.

Im a sucker when it comes to Nintendo doing Yarn games
