Epic, but you might want to lower the difficulty from what you were playing. (At the time) <10% have completed this on Steam....wow

Slightly better than the Ancient Gods Part 1, but still has a lot of the same issues
Just has a neat battle scene

Much better than the Part 1 counterpart. Loved the massive war final level, boss and story were a lil bleh.

Pior que a primeira. É mais fácil, os inimigos novos são bem qualquer coisa e a final boss é decepcionante.
Porém possui talvez a melhor cena da franquia (início da Immora) e também o martelo é pika demais.

The base game is fun but both of these DLCs have some of the most rancid gamefeel I've ever experienced in an FPS. The World Spear Master Level, however, owns

Tag Two is the weakest entry in the otherwise excellent compendium that is Doom Eternal.

Aesthetically, the levels here look fantastic; mechanically, there are some really fun additions – I enjoy that id attempts to make use of every weapon mod, including the auto-shotgun mod which gets some mileage in taking down stone imps (essentially just imp reskins with a spindash), but for every step forward, it seems like Tag Two takes another step back.

Tag Two has some interesting challenges. The part where you fight several mancubuses (mancubi?) around a fountain in the Purple Goo That Makes You Not Jump Or Dash Good was a neat idea. The Cursed Prowler is not such a neat idea. In fact, I lost three lives to the same Cursed Prowler because I missed my only Blood Punch and could not get another for the life of me. I don’t think the idea of a Cursed Prowler is bad, but why a Blood Punch? Why can’t I just kill the dude to get my jump and dash back? I guess it’s not so bad since there’s only three in the entire DLC, but holy crap was this guy awful.

The final level feels… nowhere near as intense or demanding as the levels prior, and obviously nowhere near as hectic as anything in Tag One. The part with the possessed Marauder was scary for five seconds, and then I killed him. The new soldier enemies are also just unfinished.

This DLC was made under a significant time crunch, so I feel bad for bagging on it so hard, but also… it would’ve never been enough anyways. There’s plenty of other reviews that dig into the weirdly lax difficulty as well as the time constraints that id software produced Tag Two under, and I don’t really want to retread old ground here, but all I’ll say is that it’s pretty obvious towards the end, and it sucks, and I feel bad for them. What they did manage to accomplish is impressive, and I’m actually glad they managed to create something that is mostly high-quality and cohesive in spite of these limitations.

Yet the final boss, the Dark Lord, leaves much to be desired. It is once again the Marauder, except with more health, more summons, and not nearly as aggressive. Not only are the Dark Lord’s openings less frequent, but each successful hit he lands actually refills his health, ballooning an already long multi-phase bossfight into a ridiculous timesink.

This wouldn’t bother me so much if there were any sort of reliable way to pressure him into attacking more, maybe being able to deal chip damage or something? As it stands, the boss utilizes one of my least favorite video game tropes – that is, the enemy/boss remains invincible, unless you attack them at a certain point, and then you can deal damage for X amount of seconds before rinsing and repeating. In some cases, I understand. I don’t even hate the Marauder that much anymore because he attacks so quickly and his openings are so frequent. But the Dark Lord? This guy takes FOREVER to kill, and it doesn’t feel climactic or earned, just tedious and annoying.

The final phase where all his adds turn into heavy demons is also turbo-turd city. Majorly crap way to artificially inflate difficulty, especially at the last leg of an already long endurance test. I didn’t die to this boss, it was just a major pain in the ass to finish.

Which is a shame, too, because the final cutscene where Doomguy says his first word is actually really cool… or, it would be, if the base game didn’t do this already in a flashback (a flashback which is, by the way, one of the worst story elements in the base game by a long shot). This moment would be 10x cooler if that flashback didn’t happen, but it DID happen, and so the one, solitary word Tag Two leaves us with, “No,” rings hollow.

It would’ve been PEAK. It would’ve been CINEMA. Instead, all I can think is, man, if this was the only thing he said, that would’ve been awesome. But I KNOW what Doomguy sounds like, Hugo. YOU made it canon. YOU DID THIS.

And really, what a shame. Because playing through Doom Eternal again let me see it through brand new eyes, and I finally saw the game I wanted to see. Now I’m left with its final hurrah, and it isn’t quite as triumphant as I’d imagined.

The hammer is very fun though!

This is how you dont make a DLC. every single aspect of the previous dlc but lame and without a twist, i dont like being sad

It's so strange, what I loved about part one is that it feels like it's just more of the base game and that's why it works, but here it feels like the level design gets a little half-assed at times (and great at others), and the last quarter left me feeling a little unsatisfied, but it's still great!

SOMOS LOS DOOMSLAYER SOLO NOS PARAN LOS DOOMSLAYERS QUIEN NOS PARA NOSOTROS SOMOS LOS DOOMSLAYER ETERNOS

Finding it really puzzling as to why this DLC is considered so divisive everywhere I read about it... I came into this thinking it was gonna be some crazy twist on the base game's mechanics, but it's really just The Ancient Gods Part 1 being refined further. It has missteps like the silly imps that exist purely to make you use the combat shotgun mod that no one likes, but like... it really is just more of the same, but harder.

The hammer was a really good addition to the combat loop, as awkward as the animation is. It provides more of a use for glory kills than as an i-frame generator. The finale is pretty mediocre, but I'm not really sure what else they could do, considering they kind of wrote themselves into a corner with the form they gave the Dark Lord.

¡He terminado con DOOM!

Por ahora.

I love Doom Eternal so playing the two DLC was an easy decision for me, I will review both here. I know for some Eternal relies too heavily on gameplay mechanics rather than free creative combat. The Ancient Gods DLC doubles down on the mechanic focus offering even more enemy types that have to be fought with certain attacks and even newly introduced weapons to further the sort of meta game of managing your health, armor, ammo in the midst of unrelenting attack. So if you loved Doom Eternal you are probably going to love Ancient Gods, I did. If you didn’t like Eternal for the above reasons well don’t even bother.

The best thing about the DLC is how it caters the combat to experienced players as they know you will have every weapon and skill unlocked. Levels have more environmental hazards, for instance some places add totems that give enemies infinite life until you find them. A bunch of new enemies that require new very specific strategies to beat are introduced. I loved how disruptive some of these are, in the middle of a battle having to switch to a chain gun to blow up some shields while everyone else is firing on you is thrilling. There were a few too many enemies that required the zoom in rifle scope though, in a game as hectic as this, stopping to aim seems counter intuitive, so way too many new enemies required you to do that. That’s really my only gripe with the new enemies though, to me it just added to controlled chaos of the action.

This DLC is long too, together they form what could be a new game, like a 7-9 hour game. It’s almost all new locations, so many new mechanics, new bosses, this is seriously one of the best DLC expansions I have ever played. It further expands on what I loved about Doom Eternal and it remains easily the best modern FPS game I’ve played.

Overall score: 9.3

Again, very annoying to play in a lot of parts. The final boss is very cool though and the story would be nice if I was able to understand any of it

Reclaimed Earth and Immora are masterpieces

Not as good as part one, but still super duper awesome. Doom Eternal is so fucking good it's insane.

The new stuff in this DLC just wasn't as good as the new stuff in the first DLC. The hammer and grapple is cool and the levels are fun but all the new enemies are more annoying. I could deal with the spirit from Part One, but the Cursed Prowler is so goofy. The armored baron and stone imp are just annoying. The final boss is actually horrible I can't believe how bad it is.

A bittersweet end of the Doom Slayer saga!

After the surprise success of DOOM 2016, id Software has reached new heights with DOOM Eternal and raised even more the bar with The Ancient Gods Part I. It was only natural for The Ancient Gods Part II to not be as good as the other content.

I have beaten the main campaign, TAG I and Super Gore Nest master level on ultra-nightmare difficulty but tried to keep my expectations low. Yet, I'm still kind of disappointed.

The Ancient Gods Part II brings even more great lore to the DOOM universe and ends the Doom Slayer saga with a bang. The new arenas and locations are creative and look gorgeous. All the new demons are fun to fight and do change the flow of the battles.

However, everything else is a big step down from TAG I. To begin with, everything exciting about the DLC was leaked a week before the release so there were no big surprises. The arenas are a lot easier than TAG I and the Sentinel hammer smashes the balance in certain fights. Now even game journalists will manage to beat the double Marauders. The final boss is not that hard as it's annoying, cheap and not exciting to fight. You can easily cheese him too. And because of the drop in difficulty - the whole TAG II campaign feels significantly shorter. They even made easier some of the arenas in TAG I - why? There is also a problem with the audio mixing ever since TAG I. To hear the soundtrack, I had to wait for Koma to upload his game rips to YouTube.

It might sound as if I hate TAG II but that's not the case. It's still good, and it's worth getting it, but it's just not as good as other content. Despite the ongoing pandemic, id Software fulfilled its promises and released 2 DLCs before the 1st anniversary. I'm sure they had bigger plans but working from home doesn't help.

That dark lord fight was bad

So many mixed feelings...

In terms of gameplay, I had way more fun with Part 2. The encounters feel challenging but fun, and not masochistic like Part 1. Instead of just spamming spirit-buffed hell knights every encounter, now you have the addition of some new demons that add difficulty by making you aim well, think or pay attention to them. In general, this feels way more balanced and fun.

Now for the bad, why is this so short? I was enjoying it so much, and then it just ends. Part 2 is more or less one hour shorter than Part 1, and I wish that was flipped. Part 1 felt too slow and long, and Part 2 too fast and short 😑. Also, the final boss, considering that it is the "final" fight of Doom as a whole, feels waaay too underwhelming.

So yeah, really disappointing DLCs in general, specially because I love the base game so much.

I actually had one more complaint, but it's kinda spoilery, so I'll just say that I fucking hate marvel movies.

★★½ – Average ✅

Mostly gimmicky encounters. Nice shift from traditional Doom Eternal game loop, but I don't feel like replaying it. Sentinel hammer is cool and powerful, but it gets old, when you can just mindlessly nuke the area to release tension.
Final boss sucks.

Beyond the story this final act wasn't quite as engaging as the The Ancient Gods Part 1. I think the environments for this one just fell a little flat for me. The abandoned forts and over technofied hell just didn't do it for me. However, the pay off of finally finishing the story was well worth it.

The new demons are fine. Again they are a little more annoying than interesting in most cases (buffing enemies or debuffing you) which is a shame. I did enjoy the new platforming element involving the shotgun grappling hook, that was clever.

I ended up starting and playing this through on easy given my experience with Part 1. This made it much more enjoyable and allowed me to focus more on the enemy/environmental designs than I'd had time to before.

Overall it is a great conclusion to this story arc of DOOM.

escalation events are cool methinks

Not as torturous as part 1 plus had an epic battle scene, so overall pretty fun! Also the boss at least felt more like a boss than part 1 but was still hoping for more than 5 rounds of the same thing. Plus the health regen was super annoying.

Even with it's awful final battle and some rough edges, this DLC to one of the best FPS games ever made is still dimensions ahead of and more fun than most other shooters

DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 2 in one summary of experiences I've seen:

You either love it or hate it.

And for me I mostly love it, let's get into why

Gameplay: Admittedly, this is definitely easy compared to what we got in TAG 1 and even in the base-game in some sections. They did buff it up with a couple of updates after and it did become a little bit harder but other than that it's not that bad. Difficulty 7/10

They added a group of new enemies (mostly new fodder)

Screecher Zombie - Probably the laziest new addition to the game. I find these guys mostly tedious as hell but I will admit they do force me to be a little more cautious with stuff like breaking weakpoints, sticky bombs and rockets etc. Overall I just find the enemy mediocre 5/10

Riot Soldier - These guys don't add much to the game but of course they are the homage of Heavy Weapons Dude from DOOM II and are really cool. Overall a 7.5/10 (Wish they were in base game at the start first)

Stone Imp - These guys are kind of annoying depending on who you ask. Most players don't use Full Auto so having to use it to get rid of the enemy quicker seems tedious, for me it isn't a problem I'll do it with Full Auto or just chainsaw them (or quickswitch) Overall they aren't anything special but aren't as bland as the Screecher Zombie 6.5/10

Cursed Prowler - I'll admit, I actually like this new enemy. It's sort of bland just like the stone imp but it's an enemy you have to be on the lookout for which is something I love (Archvile's, Spirits, Blood Makyrs). And when you get hit the intensity turns up so fast. Overall 8/10

Armored Baron - Absolutely love this new enemy, you can take it out in many different ways and the overall design is sick as hell. If you don't like the Marauder this guy is like him but you also don't have to wait for a flash. He's definitely the coolest of TAG 2. Overall 9/10

Level Design: I really loved the level design in this DLC. I liked the puzzles even though they were easy. The Meathook points though are what really made this so good it's absolutely amazing and I wish they were in the base game too. Overall 8.5/10

Music: I think the music here is fine, not as memorable as base game or TAG 1 but holy shit does the Immora Heavy Fighting theme go so fucking hard. That alone makes this shit an 8/10

The Dark Lord - I have to admit I struggled with this boss on Nightmare for the first time due to his healing shenanigans. But after going back to him this boss fight is really redundant and a pretty disappointing end to Eternal. If only Covid didn't get in the way... overall 6.5/10

Artstyle and Atmosphere - This is such a beautiful way to end the game. The Earth was as colorful as you could imagine, the aftermath of Hell on Earth is what you'd expect. World Spear, Reclaimed Earth, and Immora all look insanely beautiful and have such beautiful colors. They really nailed the look of what I expected the end of the game to be (outside of Story) 10/10

Story: Yeah this is pretty disappointing to say the least. The Dark Lord is just DOOM Guy but in a buffed up suit and he's not even at full power btw. The end of the game was like some Marvel fight and I don't entirely hate it like some people do don't get me wrong, but it definitely wasn't in the same tone we got from 2016-Eternal Base-Game. The cinematics though were pretty beautiful. All in all I'm not very intrigued with the story but it wasn't painfully bad like some people think imo. Overall 6.5/10

DLC Overall 8/10
I don't think this could've been the best way the game ended but with what we got I can say I enjoyed it and the gameplay itself is good ol' Doomy Turnal that's easier than TAG 1 and Base Game.

ancient gods part 1 better, this didnt really evolve the games difficulty the same way

This and part 1 saved Doom Eternal. It went from a very okay sequel to stellar. The plot hooks actually became really cool, the combat is balls to the wall, and the levels are amazing. I had more fun in these than the base game.
