Brisk adventuring, excellent 1-bit art and great action gameplay. And I love the sense of humour around the cat, with your owner being proud and congratulatory whenever you get an upgrade.
If there's a few issues I have, they are:
- the "cat" controls can be frustratingly finicky, with a tiny character jumping at high speed all over the screen.
- navigating is pretty brainless: the next objective is nearly always right in front of you.
- the ending did not take itself seriously enough for me (trying to be vague). Great tone for the opening, but kinda weak for an ending.

My only real gripes are the bossfights feeling kinda lackluster but the exploration and general gameplay are really fun. Concise and Cute, would definitely recommend!

This is the most accessible metrodvania I have ever played and an extremely enjoyable and fun compressed version of what a common Metroid game offers. The only moments where the formula lapses is in the boss fights, they are a bit too long and the slippery controls make them more difficult than they should be. On top of that, the game is quite short and leaves you wanting a little more. Anyway Gato Roboto is still a highly recommended game.

Gato Roboto isn’t a very original experience (really putting the Metroid in metroidvania) but is overall a charming one. Definitely has some issues though. The difficulty is very uneven. Most of the game won’t challenge you too much, but the boss fights can be brutal. With no way to skip the cutscene before the fight, you might find yourself a little annoyed. On the flip side of the problem, the final fight in the game is underwhelmingly easy. Have enough health and the Repeater, and you can just stand still and hold down the fire button to win. The ending itself also comes a little out of nowhere.

Movement mostly feels good, if a bit floaty. It’s fun enough to jump around and shoot. Again, reminiscent of Metroid, but I like Metroid so that’s not too much of an issue. The game looks great and the music is all fun.

Ultimately, your time with this game will depend heavily on how much you’ll let the idea of a cat in a mech suit carry the experience, and your patience for less of a difficulty curve and more of a difficulty roller coaster.

Sometimes you read a game title and know it will be good. Gato Roboto is one of those games

Um gato no robô, o que mais tu quer?

Cute and fun little metroidvania, didn't really click with the story though (especially the ending)

A short and cute metroidvania about a cat.

This is such a neat little game. Plays a lot like a simplified Metroid. That's really all I can say gameplay wise. It pretty self explanatory. No gimmicks. Just Metroid, but you are a cat.

Traversal of the world is fun. I've gotten 100% map and collectables twice. It's mostly a chill vibe. The world is nothing special but the characters are neat. The story has some neat beats.

There are only 2 issues. First, it's a flashy game. Photosensitive beware. The second is that boss fights are infuriating. Most are a bit too hard. Like, it can be done, but still, a bit hard compared to the rest of the game. Also you can't skip cutscenes if I remember. So that can be annoying.

Anyways, a cute metroidvania. Very chill. Nothing mind blowing but a solid experience. Stray wishes it could be this good. This is the superior cat game.

This is a game I got for free on Twitch a while back, and I'd been putting off playing it for far too long given how much I love Metroidvanias. And you even get to play as an adorable kitty! I'd heard it was short but sweet, and that's exactly what I got, with it taking me a little over 2 hours to 100% the game.

In Gato Roboto, you play as Kiki, the cat of a galactic security soldier who steps on his console during a landing sequence and causes him to crash land onto the research station he was going to check out. Pinned within his own space ship, he has no choice but to send out Kiki to complete the mission in his sted with the help of a cat-sized suit of mech armor you find on the station! It's a cute, silly story that has "voice acting" very very much like Chibi-Robo. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but still manages to be silly-yet-engaging.

The gameplay is a more Metroid-y Metroidvania than a Castlevania-y one. You run around in your mech suit shooting your normal gun and you'll find more power-ups as you go through the game like missiles (which are on a cooldown timer, not a limited thing you need to collect more of, which is awesome), better bullets, better jumps, etc. You can search through 6 areas for both extra health packs as well as palette cartridges, which allow you to change the monochrome-palette of the game to all sorts of colors, from a more soft grey & black, to a harsher (and even fuzzier) Virtual Boy-like red & black, to even an absolutely nauseating Commodore 64-like blue & yellow XD

There are also sections where Kiki leaves her suit and is exposed to one-hit kills, and these are easily the most difficult parts of the game for obvious reasons. That said, the game overall is far from the most difficult Metroidvania I've played, while also not exactly being baby's first Metroidvania. The controls are really tight and the game is really fun to explore around and fight things in, even if the boss battles aren't the most exciting thing in the world.

Verdict: Highly Recommended. It's a short game, but it's oozing with character and solid gameplay. If you're someone without a lot of money to spend on games, you might not feel you're getting a ton of value for it, but if you just want an excellent time to spend an afternoon, this is a really great way to do it ^w^

A shockingly good metroidvania that offers a surprising amount of depth in terms of gameplay, while also not overstaying its welcome. The art style and aesthetic are both quite charming, too. Progression felt very natural, with your character getting more powerful gradually over time all the way until the end. I'm honestly just surprised at how well-made this game was.

WHY IS GATO ROBOT AT 3.5 GET THAT FREAKING NUMBER UP RAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

What a nice short little metroidvania. And for only $2 on sale? Wow! Value!

I hate Metroidvania. I cant take it no more.

seems really fun! didnt finish it

This here is a totally decent game. It's very much on the Metroid side of the metroidvania-spectrum. That's the side I don't like as much! Serviceable map, cute kitty, fun upgrades, overall ok gameplay.

The mech is fun enough to control. It's mildly slippy, there's substantial movement recoil from firing rockets, and the powerups can allow for some real zip-zooping around.

The cat out of the mech is terrible. Very highly slippy, but somehow sticky on walls. You die in one hit when out of the mech. Honestly, it's one of the worst things ever, but the game is short and you're only in cat form for a smallish (but far too large) portion.

The story is surprisingly satisfying for a short 3-3.5 hour romp about a cat in a mech suit. Which is to say, nothing groundbreaking, but it made me smile and I felt it concluded well.

Conclusion of the review: I don't regret spending 3 bucks and 3 hours on this game and you probably won't either if you enjoy metroidvanias.

In the nicest way possible, this felt like "baby's first Metroid". A cute little game, but not much meat on its bones. Still a fun time regardless

Gato Roboto is a short and sweet Metroidvania that uses its time well. Everything that you would want in a game is there with its multiple fun upgrades, fun map design, and good movement. While not much more can be said, I still had a good time with this cute and fun game.

Loved everything about the way this game looked, sounded, and played. Not the most original gameplay experience but it's solidly put together and very charming. There are many good Metroidvanias and this is an exceptional snack-sized entry in the genre.

A fun, short little romp. Plays like a simplified Metroid.

A fun, short and sweet metroidvania that dosnt do anything crazy or overstay its welcome.
