I loved the PS2 Prince of Persia games, so I had to try this one. Not quite as good, but still fun.

Story 3.3 | Gameplay 4.5 | Audio 3 | Visual 3.7 | Details 2.5 | Entertainment 4

Total 3.5

I adore the new look, but the platforming feels stiff and the combat even stiffer. Repetitive and kinda boring, unfortunately.

I'll be frank. It has been a VERY long time since I've played this game last. I'm mostly going off by my memory of the game because, honestly, I have no desire to revisit it. I don't think it's BAD, per se. I remember it controlling relatively smooth, having an interesting and pleasant art-style, and the gameplay itself (the parkour) was decent enough. I also remember that I dropped it about halfway through playing because of how bored I was ultimately.

I really did try to like this game, especially since I loved Sands of Time, and greatly enjoyed Warrior Within (never finished that one, due to some strange soft-lock bug near the end). In the end, however, I just couldn't. I was rather excited to play it initially when I first popped it into my PS3, but that excitement plummeted rather quickly when I realized how lackluster the combat was and that you're virtually invincible with no way to actually fail the game (as in, bad jumps resulted in you being rescued by the secondary protagonist that I've forgotten the name of). As lovely as the art was and as nifty as the parkour was, I lost more and more interest as the game kept going until I dropped it altogether.

Sometimes, on rare occasions, I wonder if I'm being a bit too harsh and a small ember of interest pops up that asks if I wanna try the game again. As quickly as it shows up, though, it vanishes in the next second, even faster when I look at other games in my collection.

I'll say it again, this isn't a bad game, but it's not a game I'm willing to jump to actively.

I don't know who asked for Prince of Persia to become a repetitive collectathon, but this wasn't it. The structure of this game is very different from other PoP games as it is non-linear allowing you to go where you choose to go. The problem is that the four regions of this game are very similar in terms of their gameplay; only the scenario changes between them. After that, you need to randomly collect light bubbles until you can rinse and repeat the same thing over and over again. The abilities that kind of work as a reward are also pretty bad because all of them work pretty much the same. Sometimes when there is a platforming gauntlet thrown at you, it can feel pretty good, but overall, this was a very disappointing end to my 3D PoP journey.

Prince of Persia (2008) is the reboot of the Sands of Time trilogy. Unlike the God of War (2018) reboot, PoP (2008) sets in a completely a different world rather than moving the story forward. We, as players, play as the Prince, but despite him being called "the Prince" (we don't know his actual name in this game either), he's not the Prince we know from the SoT trilogy.

And the famous time powers and sand monsters are not included; the Prince finds himself within the battle between light and darkness (which is the game's main theme). Elika, our new ally and companion, is playing a key role in this. Her special powers that come from Ormazd (the God of Light) help both the Prince and Elika heal fertile grounds and destroy the servants of Ahriman (the God of Darkness) to imprison him again before he escapes and corrupts the world.

The new Prince is more acrobatic than the Prince we know from the SoT Trilogy. Thanks to Elika's abilities, whenever the Prince falls from a cliff or harms himself, Elika saves him no matter what. If you missed the QTE during the battle and the enemy is about to land a fatal blow, no problem; Elika will save him. If I recall correctly, Ubisoft did this because they wanted to create what they did with time powers in previous games. The main role of rewinding time was that if you made a fatal mistake, instead of restarting the game and waiting for loading screens, you would simply rewind time and prevent dying. So in this reboot, instead of time powers, they use Elika and prevent you from dying at all. This has its own positive and negative outcomes. The positive side is that you can simply enjoy the parkour mechanics without being afraid of making mistakes since you can't die at all. And given that the game has literally no hud that shows the Prince's health bar or different parameters, I'm guessing that Ubisoft's intentions were simply to give the player a relaxing and enjoyable experience. But like I said, their intentions bring their own problems. Since I can't really die no matter what, there's nothing to be afraid of from enemies, including bosses too. Making the Prince literally immortal (thanks to Elika) makes the bosses less threatening, even though they were presented as such powerful enemies. But despite the flaws, I find the fight sequences very entertaining and cool. I think it's not wrong to call this "duel mode." In duel mode, the camera adjusts itself to view both the Prince and Elika and the enemy in a frame. And I call this "duel mode" because you'll only fight against one enemy at a time.

In duel mode, the Prince and Elika work together, but you can simply land only the Prince's combos on the enemies instead of getting help from Elika. But there are times that you have to include Elika in your combos when the enemy gets stronger or becomes corrupted. At first, I found the bosses too easy. I could simply bully them or finish them off by pushing them off a cliff. But towards the end of the game, enemies get stronger, their HP gets higher, and they parry the Prince very frequently. In order to deal with them, you have to include Elika in your combos. The longer your combo, the more damage you do to the enemy.

Aside from the gameplay, I really like the interactions between Elika and the Prince. Throughout the journey, from the very beginning to the very end, I connected deeply to the Prince and Elika. But there's an annoying thing: the Prince and Elika almost never speak with each other unless you stop what you're doing and press the L2 button (I was playing on PS3). The game shows Elika's icon to the player whenever there's an available conversation. Don't get me wrong, I really like their interaction, but it's so annoying that you have to stop walking, stop climbing, or stop whatever you're doing if you want to hear what she's going to say.

Besides that, like I said, I liked the story and characters. The end is beautiful and bravely done, if you ask me, but the final boss and sequence are disappointing. I can't believe it's been 15–16 years and we still haven't gotten it's sequel...

Lastly:
I can't believe how Nolan North's voice fit so well for the Prince. Through the gameplay, I always felt this new Prince was just like Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. The Prince was charming, sometimes cocky, funny, and cool. As I was watching the credits, I immediately saw Nolan North's name and felt very happy. I always considered Yuri Lowenthal to be and always will be the Prince in my heart, but now that I've replayed this game, I feel like I can't say 'no' if Ubisoft decides to bring Nolan North again.

Loved that game as a kid, and I still adore the art direction and OST so... yeah I'm biased

This old reboot initial pull lies in its cosmetic pop, strong celshading and appealing designs of our two main characters that makes for a promising premise with their sparkingly sarcastic personalities.

And really while the ingredients are all present here, the saturation often pales in dull monotony and predictability through the progressional structure and repeated use of similar assets, hurting the otherwise stronger merits that precides to engage.

The gameplay overall is fairly challenging but not unforgiving.
The platforming is fun, the puzzles do their job and doesnt overstay their welcome, while the combat is entirely like/dislike depending on whether you like half seconds reactionbased battles with spontanous qte prompt or not.
As long as you can be at peace with a predictable narrative pattern, some drawn out collectaton grinding and recycled everything you might find some good spots worth your precious time.

I'm only reviewing this because I wanted at least one 1-star review on here. This is probably one of the worst video games I, personally, have played. Shallow, unfun, sloggy combat, and a boring, lackluster story.

At least the art's good.

As someone who loves the prince and the atmosphere in the trilogy, I liked this game. I didn't look at it as Prince Of Persia and I enjoyed it even more when I thought of it as something completely different. The fighting system and enemy variety didn't satisfy me at all, but the platforming elements were really nice. The story was also satisfying. It was a spacious 6-7 hour experience.

This is my first PoP game that I've ever played after booting up the game (PC Version) it got stuck for a while until I made a workaround for it to work. The premise is really simple it starts off really fast which I really liked but as soon as you get into the fighting it gets "cool". While you're fighting the game stops and actually tells you what to press next but oh boy... I was naive. Those instructions still appear even after teaching you how to actually play the game which is kinda frustrating because the game thinks that I'm dumb or something or that I can't figure things by myself. After all of the lack luster mentioned before Imma focus on the gameplay and the parkour now. The fights are utterly boring and you can't just "do your thing". And the parkour is kinda sluggish and it tries to mimic the 1st game movement (which I understand that's part of the limitations of how that game was made but... c'mon it's 2008 you can do better.) Did I mention that the tutorial boxes will still appear even later in the game when you already know the controls? Yeah I think so.

And I'm not finished because you gotta collect A LOT of spheres to get Elika's powers and you actually need 60 of them. Good look advancing through a zone in the game because you gotta go into them but not as you would think that it was intended Never playing it again, I'm really sorry.

Final veredict: Never playing it again.

EXTRA: The game doesn't have the real ending included on the PC version so stick to emulating this game or play it on original hardware.

Platforming bizarro mas é muito bonitinho.

Still waiting for a continuation.

Totally different from the previews games, but it was an interesting way to reboot the series.
It's a pity it failed cause I would have loved to see more games of this version of the world....

I remember trying to platinum this as a kid and having to replay it 5 times cos I was (and still am) an idiot

This game had a lot going for it, but the platforming was not as intuitive as it needed to be. Also the ending was sold as DLC??

I was having fun until the game ended and I had to buy the true ending.

This game looks really good and has a lot of cool ideas, I dunno if it all comes together in the end but I think about it relatively positively. Not being able to "die" is a really interesting choice.

i never played the og games because im a little baby and i played this one around its release and thought it was like ok and didnt really get why people hated it. character designs are raw as fuck tho you cant dock em

Art style was very nice and platforming & puzzles were ok, but fighting was just a dreadful slog, so boring you feel your head is going to explode. Game ended without proper ending, and if you wanted to experience real ending you had to buy real ending as a overpriced DLC. DLC is called "Epilogue", so they don't even try to hide the fact that they are selling ending of the game separately. Always do your research before buying an Ubisoft product is what I learned from this game.

The controls on PC with a PS4 controller drove me crazy. Maybe there is a better way to play it, but i'm not going to bother.

As far as games go, it could be called one. With mediocre movement and a horrid combat system, you'd have more fun watching cocomelon or eating an apple. The only good things about the game are some pretty cool character design, an appealing art style, and a decent story that was just poorly executed.
