it's midnight, the fireworks going off in the background, i'm well rested, and ready to mess some shit up.
with bombs, guns, and my trusty sledge hammer, i turn a that small food court into a small crator.
how ever, when the time's up, the game says that i've only made 45% of how much i was supposed to destroy.
this is this game's biggest flaw that holds down it's amazing premise: weird, specific, and annoying tasks. this game is at it's best when it lets you relax, and hammer through objectives at your own pace; solving small problems and feeling like a badass while doing it.
but with time limits and quotas, the game becomes more and more upsetting.
3/5 - a fantastic engine and set up, with annoying objectives bogging it down.

Teardown is the ultimate "break stuff" simulator and it's freakin' awesome. Everything is destructible, so you can go nuts with sledgehammers, blow up buildings, even drive cars straight through walls! The missions are surprisingly fun, making you plan creative heists, but honestly, half the time I just mess around and watch things explode in crazy ways. It's a little rough around the edges, and sometimes the missions get annoying, but if you want pure chaotic fun, Teardown is a blast.
I found the idea super curious and entertaining.
But in the end I had to abandon it for two reasons.
1. the game makes me dizzy, I don't know if it's because of the first person view or because of the camera movement
2. In the end a game of destruction has become a game of theft and timer
I'm sorry, but I doubt I'll play it again

This game I ended up finding a lot more fun that I had imagined when I started looking over it, but after witnessing my streaming friend playing this, though I now have forgotten which one it was!
Anyway, the game I found scratched an itch that I was really missing ever since completing Thief 2, due to the time sneaking around, stealing valuable items (and unlocking new weapons and upgrades) and then keeping everything in mind in regards to what your mission is, often fleeing before the authorities arrive and getting away with having finished your job which often involves theft and vandalism with people paying you to mess up each-other's place!
With the set up having unlimited time (until you start off the alarm) you can take as much time as possible setting up a plan to pick up or destroy whatever items as quickly as possible before getting to the escape point! The options are limitless in how you go about it and with the destructive environment you have limitless options. More so when you unlock all kinds of items making destruction easier and building items to make it possible to build bridges like I had done or, in one case, tie up a bunch of safes in a lorry so I could carry out the impossible to move safes in one go!
I'm sure others will find far better ways to complete levels and levels are also repayable so it's a hell of a lot of fun!
There's more stuff coming out and I can't wait to play/review all that extra content!

Could have been an all timer sandbox game if it just had better mission variety. The maps look amazing and have so much potential for interesting interactions and mission design, the arsenal of tools you have to use are varied (although it takes way too long to unlock them all), and obviously the physics engine and destruction mechanics are incredible.
70% of the missions in this game are the exact same thing with very slight variations, pick up six items, an alarm will start when you pick one of them up, so you have to plan out the best route to get all of them in a time limit once the alarm is triggered.
It baffles me how often the game relies on this mission type, considering how many other potential objectives the game could have gone with. It also cripples the game's pacing as every mission is the exact same length, throw some shorter, and some longer missions in there for Christ's sake.

Weirdly disappointing, I was expecting a dumb fun game about destroying maps and setting off crazy explosions. I was initially positively surprised to find out it's actually a heist game, where you plan out the perfect heist and use the destruction to your advantage.
But, unfortunately, as time went on the missions grew stale and the destruction aspect started to take a backseat in a lot of the missions, and ended up being more frustrating than fun. Overall okay but I expected more.
