So impressed. In many ways an epic piece of storytelling - it goes places I didn't expect, and rounds out many characters in surprising ways. The ambition of it is quite jaw-dropping - I expected an indie effort but this feels very lavish and extravagant, a major contribution to the medium.

The visual conceit is a triumph frankly - the static but visually compelling images give the piece a vivid graphic novel feel rather than uncanny valley avatars we're used to in gaming. The voice-acting and is-it-actual-acting? are excellent throughout - very touching and artistically coherent.

To really enjoy these interactive dramas you do have to understand the form a little. There will be dead ends and loose ends that don't tie together due to the interactive format. There will be unsatisfactory choices that serve the interactivity of the story rather than the full desires of the player. I feel as these games develop we're maybe coming to understand and tolerate these issues, and be sympathetic to their constraints rather than frustrated that they're not something else (ie more like movies or tv) - I know I am.

It was definitely engaging but the writing was written to be sensationalist and not realistic which fair I guess. The plot lines were not resolved satisfactorily either. The ending was just bait fr fr

Eu tava gostando demais, mas o final me deixou furioso, cliffhanger maldito

Minha critica maior vai pro final, achei desnecessário.

This is easily up there for one of my games of the year for 2022. While the artstyle is going to be hit or miss it was something to me in particular that lead to really artistically interesting designs.

The game is a mismash of an AMC Drama with smashed up mechanics from Detroit:Become Human and Until Dawn. The story settles in a much more grounded universe then the two games mentioned above but evolves in such a branching fashion that leads to me to pause and generally consider my outcomes.

There are for sure some instances where the choices you are trying to decide between is black and white however the majority of them are left grey enough where you don't know for sure how the outcome will present itself.

Two things kept this from being a 5/5 Review. I did experienced some minor performance issues during more action oriented scenes(the game doesn't seem very optimized with a 60GB install) and there is a key scene towards the final act that I felt very different than the rest and interupted the flow of the ending.

My Mount Rushmore of TV is The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Wire and Deadwood, so As Dusk Falls was right up my alley. I am also obviously biased, but the xCloud implementation was top notch.

O fraco é a produção, bem ruinzinha a arte.

I'm a sucker for these choose your own adventure kind of story games. Especially ones like these that have MANY different paths. Hats off to the writers for doing so many different routes. Overall the story is decent and the characters are fine enough. Anyone who likes seeing all outcomes will be kept busy with a game like this.

The art style is kind of wack but it’s still a good game.

It was ok I guess. The design was intersting. The story was sometimes good sometimes stupid. Ok to play but nothing spectacular

Book 1 was decent but book 2 is so fucking boring

Also I hope that this game doesn’t get a sequel/dlc simply to spite whoever came up with that shitty cliffhanger ending

6,5/10
Stray is coming out on Playstation, what will Xbox answer in the same day? I present to your attention - a new exclusive, I would say, visual novel that combines 2d "2fps" animation and 3d elements (like driving cars, trains, helicopters, as well as some background or physical objects).
I'm not against experiments, always only for it, but for some reason everything goes wrong with Xbox, I don't know what it is connected with, I can only assume that Microsoft does not properly control the development of games, and maybe they also recruit not very competent people, In short - gives a lot of money to anyone, with hope that at least some games will become unique, and become their Exclusive indie-masterpiece, but it doesn’t work for the 4th time, the gunk, recore , battletoads, for me a mediocre sea of thieves, it seems that after they don`t find a successful result, they begin to approve more and more cheap formats, and that's how we "arrived" to the game - "As Dusk Falls".
So, I repeat, such a "bookish" visual style of this "like a movie" game is not the biggest problem, for the first 2 hours I was not even particularly bored, especially since game offered to you a co-op up to 8 people, although it was made "through the ass", but more on this later. The fact is that the story itself is of no value, there is a very banal plot about an unsuccessful robbery by brothers from a not very prosperous family, along with whom a couple more ordinary civilians are "sucked into trouble", and, yes, someone undoubtedly like such stories, and, in general, this concept is capable of creating "emotional tension" for the characters, but not here. Personally, I've watched a lot of films, I just "facepalming" everytime from the "template" and clichédness of each local character, plot twists and turns also consist of clichés. Just imagine a typical movie about a robbery, stretched for 6 hours, and what will happen in it - and here it will be, the simplest possible film about a very local robbery attempt with the characters that are most stereotyped for such a story,
And, with very boring, 1-frame art, yes, it looks original, but why should we play it? The plot here consists of 2 books of 3 hours each, the second of which is called "Expansion", it tells about the escape of criminals, and since all "Suspense moments" with hostage taking are already resolved in the previous chapter, it already looks like not very necessary dlc, and it plays even more boring than the original)
So, maybe something extraordinary awaits us in the gameplay? Well, the game is made more like a "game for streamers", the fact is that here all the players make decisions for all the characters, the option with the most votes wins, if the same numbers - the answer is chosen randomly, also you will have a "forcing" mechanic ", we can disable control for other players 3 times in 1 chapter, this is very useful at key decisions - that require the consent of the majority of players. This kind of gameplay might be of interest to you, but then again, either if you're a streamer or if you have a lot of people playing with you, which can be problematic as either you need multiple people with gamepads to play via "remote play" on Steam, or you need to be with all people in 1 Wi-fi network so that they can download the companion app and use their phones. Well, either everyone should have a working Microsoft Store and a Game Pass subscription, yes, in this case there will be no problems, it will be possible to connect to your online at any moment of your gaming session. Of course, there is also QTE, the only complaint about them is that they are too simple, they do not represent any challenge, in a co-op game they work either in turn, or all players must have time to press the desired button.
There is no special variability in the story either, yes, you can influence a lot of things, but in the end everything comes to about the same results, not counting the "unfortunate endings" for the character, when you did something completely contrary to the further good fate of the character.

🏆Well, we have another unnoticed exclusive of Micro soft with rather specific gameplay and an empty clichéd story, and somewhere, probably, one creator of such wonderful books is rejoicing, the fact that he managed to achieve the adaptation of his writings, at least in this format. (Cool song in the menu)

I really don't understand the praise of this game's writing. The performances I think are mostly fine, but the actual plot is all over the place. Character decision-making is often laughably bad, some character arcs are unfulfilling, and the game reaches its climax halfway through the game, and then kind of sputters out before having a decent conclusion. Only to then turn around and add a literal cliffhanger to the end to slap you in the face. It feels like they had bold ideas for this huge connected narrative with these multi-faceted characters but most of them just end up being under-used, boring, or so unbelievably over-the-top bad decision makers that it just feels sloppy. Stuff like the Ash chapter that has the potential to add basically zero to the story or the fact that the older Holt brother will chase his own brother up a tree instead of shooting him to keep him quiet about an escape plan when he's been mourning his other brother nonstop for hours is just ridiculous.

I've never understood the praise for Quantic Dreams games, and there were moments where the writing felt VERY in line with the kind of nonsense, poorly-paced stuff you'd see in one of those.

The co-op narrative mechanics where players vote on narrative decisions as a team was pretty fun; unfortunately, the writing and voice acting quality did not back up the idea. Would love to see more games like this with more compelling characters and fewer extremely fake southern accents.

Liked:
- This was pretty much a standard crime drama about a family on the run, but I think the execution was done well enough to be engaging and have tension with all its choices. Most of the characters are decently fleshed out with their flashback scenes and the voice acting was solid overall (some weaker than others though)
- It actually has a pretty good amount of story branching. There’s a flowchart to follow the pathing for every decision, and while most were just minor changes some can make a bigger impact than they seemed

Mixed:
- The art style. This was what turned me off from the trailers, the use of realistic stills in motion was jarring and initially gave the impression that this was some low budget FMV game. But having played it, I guess it wasn’t as bothering as it looked once I got used to it. It does make the presentation more distinct than it might have been otherwise, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the most divisive thing about it
- While decisions do seem to carry a lot of weight across the story, it’s still more or less the illusion of choice as these games tend to be. All paths will end up at the same story beats, just with a lot of variations for the chapter leading up to them

Disliked:
- The QTEs were basic to the point where they didn’t need to be in this at all
- Another game where you have to drag a cursor around instead of using the menu. Was made worse by how sluggish it felt to move cause of input lag
- There’s no way to skip or fast-forward through scenes, which made going back to see other choices a bit annoying
- The last scene leaving on a cliffhanger was kinda weak, seemed like it was just there to abruptly set up a sequel

A grande surpresa desse ano.

Pretty neat concept of a game. The story didn’t necessarily blow me away but it was good. I do think most of the decisions weren’t as meaningful as say choosing someone to be killed or something to that effect

I did not expect to absolutely love this! 🌞 Excellent, super captivating
