sure its good i guess
its kinda overhyped

A game so good that even a shoddy translation can't ruin it. FF7, in contrast to the dominant environmentalist ideology of the 90s, righteously points the finger at corporations for displacing communities, expoloiting natural resources for profit, and leaving a (literally) scorched earth behind. This is a shockingly radical game to come out of a major studio in 1997, and it's no surprise that it is sadly relevant enough in 2021 to demand a remake (which sort of fucks it up but nevertheless). Best-in-class music, set design, and cutscene direction still hits today, and its clever character turns are hard to shake. Despite some gameplay friction - largely assauged by internet guides and modern port conveniences - I truly love it.

This game had a lot of expectations, some growing up saying the game has aged or some saying the game is still as great as it was when they first played it.
I came in mostly blind as everything I knew of FFVII had disappeared from my mind, but this game still stands even 25 years later.

To get the parts I didn't like out of the way, the gameplay overall was just not that enjoyable to me I understand there was some limitations and a desire to do something new but I really don't feel like it worked on me at all, but other than that I think every other element still works to this day.

The music has this sort of feeling to it, allowing for the player to really feel something whether it be the horror of Sephiroth's fall into madness or exploring a large new world on an airship, the game makes it so much more meaningful through the soundtrack.

The characters in the world of FFVII all have a moment to express themselves, no matter how big or small their role are. You even get some really good character writing in the form of the main pieces to this game's amazing story, Cloud and Sephiroth.

Cloud Strife, the character that leads the point of view this story gives the player, even if disc 1 doesn't do a lot for his character until the very end...from that point Cloud grows so much to even make people call him one of the greatest or most relatable main characters in gaming, a character that struggles with so many emotions like his own self doubt and pain yet puts on a prideful strong mask through most of the story.

Sephiroth, one of the greatest most iconic videogame villains who is hyped up through the game, with good reason.
This is one powerful, cool antagonist and the way FFVII decides to show us that for the first time is through it's best scene:

The burning of Nibelheim is my favorite moment in the game ( with Cloud's Lifestream section being really close or right next to it ) the build up to Sephiroth's first antagonistic act is just so perfect, the soundtrack brings tension and the pacing of the scene just strengthens it even more up to that very moment,

"Out of my way. I'm going to see my mother."

The perfect line to finally show why Sephiroth is one of the greatest antagonists ever made, as you continue through the section you get to see Sephiroth's power, burning down Cloud's hometown, Shinra is a minion compared to how fierce and brutal Sephiroth can and will be through the game to get what he desires the most.

And to finish off, the story is this game's strongest point, starting in the cyberpunk-ish Midgar
the world it creates is so great ( even if a bit annoying to travel sometimes ) in 1997 I imagine a world like FFVII delivers was pretty rare especially comparing it to previous Final Fantasy entries and the story that happens in this world is so fun and it continues leaving the player wanting more, can't really explain a 40 hour game in such a short quick spoiler review, so even if you know the plot twists, how the game ends.
The journey is still what makes this game worth playing today.

UPDATE: i need to reevaluate.

if you haven't played this FF title you need to now. easily has the greatest use of storytelling, incredible atmosphere, very well developed characters, and (although VERY dated) very unique enemy and world design. many ppl think this title is overrated but i think it's really incredible. i will say that the vibe of this title is very different from most FF titles and takes away the aspect a high-fantasy world, but for the time the game was released i feel personally it was needed for a breath of fresh air in the FF community. i also highly recommend that if you want to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake PLAY THE ORIGIONAL FIRST!

I wasn't expecting too much of this game, I know this is FF VII that I'm talking about, but I've never really played it entirely, just because I thought the plot was very simple and shallow (big corp evil, save the world from pollution and other evil things and such), and the only time I really tried to play it, my psp with the game save was stolen. Now about the game itself, the first act is one of the most famous story plots in gaming history so I wasn't that much of surprised with the things happening, at that point it was an 3/5 stars for me, and it kept me really thinking about why do people think this is one of the best games ever? And my first conclusion about this was that the game was released at the right moment and right time,a solid game with graphics that were outstanding at the time and mechanics that are pretty neat and innovative, it was a fresh start for Square during the playstation 1 era. But suddenly as the storyline progresses and you encounter Cid (one of my favorites characters in the game) the characters really starts to shine, with each one having different interactions, and they really sounded like very different people, each one being very unique and having very contrasting traits. And of course the best part that I didn't saw it coming was Cloud Strife's past, I've never seen very much about him before playing it, for me he was just a badass edgy character and the true motive of him being such a dork during most of the game was because he really was very egocentric. But in fact Cloud Strife is one of the best written characters of the game industry, this single character made me change my whole perspective about this game and the real meaning behind it. Finally, the end of the journey was very satisfactory and for sure Final Fantasy VII will stay in a very special place in my game shelf.

After playing the aggressively mediocre FF 7 Remake, I decided to go back to the original to see how it played today.

There is no way to really speak to the impact this game had in its moment (although when you realize that it's the first Square game to get a direct sequel and a movie and side stories full console generations later...). Somehow, I got a VHS tape in the mail with trailers for this game, and they were 100% made up of cut-scenes. Clearly it did the trick, because I got a non-Nintendo console for the first time. I had history with the series, having played the first one back in 1990, followed by every American release (2, 3, Mystic Quest, Legend 1-3, Adventure), and at the time, 7 was about as good as games got.

25 years later, it's clunky, sure, but it still tells a solid, complex story and has a fun set of systems at its core. It's also notable because it's from the era when Square was constantly pushing envelopes, experimenting with its forms (for better and worse) to come up with different, bizarre systems to play with.

I miss this time of innovation, and I don't know that we'll see it again. A time when a tried and true battle system (ATB) can be put into an innovative world with fun/awful minigames that really shouldn't be here at all, but we're kind of glad they are. That solid ATB system carries the game forward, but the added complexities that were carefully built to help the player stay engaged and always feel growth are new and, in many cases, unique to this entry.

And that's okay, really. With endless space available on modern computers and consoles, we can have endlessly enormous games, and companies need to (and have in some cases) adapt and grow. Square just hasn't yet. I hope yet, anyway.

I do want to note that I played through this time taking full advantage of the quality of life enhancements that come with the Switch port. I turned off battles when I just wanted to explore vague pathways, sped up 85% of the entire game, and used the super power button when I felt like something unfair had happened (and honestly, for the entirety of the third disc/part because I was just over it by then). Those enhancements really helped this time around, because I no longer have the time and patience I did when I was 17.

paced well; based well. did not expect it to live up to the hype but man oh man!

Maybe it's because I played it 20 years after its release date, but this was one of my worst RPG experiences ever, the combat was 99% just mashing since story bosses were really easy, even with no grinding, and the side quests it offers are really cumbersome

Here comes unpopular opinion. I played most of FF games and I do not think FF VII is that great. I mean when it came it was probably phenomenon but it did not hit me like FF I,IV,V,VI,IX,X. For me it is average game, which has some great moments like north crater and plot revolving around it. I loved the motive of ancients and their city but there was painfully not a lot of it. It stared engine of my imagination but there was not even drop of fuel to it. There are games that does the same ancient stuff trick or different civilisation but does it a lot better without telling much. As for how much story depended on them, we do not have much here.
I really like characters of FF VII but sorry I am not Cid fan. Cid from FF IV was ten times better xD I am sorry you all. You know what other Cid was better? Sid from Lost Odyssey. I think any Cid from any game is better than this one. All other characters are so good that would change this personal review into essay. I love all of them for all sorts of reasons!
Summons are superb! Sephiroth is cool and all he has done.
What I think now is that FF VII remake can actually be thing that will be 5 stars for me, because I heard they changed and add things. Maybe this will be it! A moment in which I will feel FF VII is one of best. Now I only understand why it is great, I really do, it is just not for me.
I got all achievements on steam as I really like how materia system work at end game. So I had it mastered, which is surprise even for me. I love side quest, thought chocobo breeding randomness is stupid. Gold Saucer is great.
I think FF VII has a lot of master rank super stuff but its spine is hollow and full of nothing.
When I started playing FF VII I had expectations for average game but nether I was surprised nor disappointed.

We'll the gameplay, design and visuals show it's age. Having finished It. I can finally say I see why it was such a landmark title for the time. The story and cast will stand the test of time. A solid experience, if you can suffer through dated elements, to experience a classic. 8/10

My favorite thing about FF7 is the music. (Plus Tifa & Red!) I hated all of the mini-games in this and it is the reason why I don't want to replay it again. I'm sure if I had played this when I was a kid, I would feel completely different about it. But for me, it's just an okay game (with FANTASTIC music!).

mid final fantasy game, definitely not the best idk why everyone gasses up this one so much but after 50+ hours and seeing most of the content here I still don't really get the hype. It's a pretty decent jrpg I guess, but personally I would say this is the most meh out of every FF game I've played.

Not too bad though lots of cool stuff and still very iconic. I enjoyed bits of the story, and the Materia system is pretty much perfect customization. Gonna play the remake next, hopefully it'll be more appealing to my zoomer brain

Conseguiu me surpreender até o fim.

This game has every right to be one, if not, the most popular game within the Final Fantasy series. Not my favourite personally, but the storyline was rich, characters are iconic and the soundtrack is amazing. Whilst I was too young to experience this game at its prime, I can only imagine how much of an impact this entry had in the JRPG genre.

Simplemente lamentable.

A classic. These characters became family.

Similar to stuff like Ocarina Of Time, it's definitely an impressive game for its time. That being said, there are some gameplay portions, such as the mini-games, that I found frustrating. Hasn't really aged all that well.

Story was wacky and fun, though!

My friend is gonna kill me if I don't give this at least a 4

One of my favorite games of all time.

Maybe I never gave this game a chance but I really couldn't get into it

please for the love of god use black chocobo to edit ur file

played thru this blind in 2021? i think? and had to call someone to guide me through the final boss fight because even though i had all the cheats my grown ass sucked at the combat and ended up with a party comprised of very depressed frogs (yes depression is a status effect)
9/10 game i made so many good memories and it was a cultural reset

Complete Story only
Platform: Nintendo Switch Lite
Release Date: March 26, 2019
Genre: Role-Playing » Japanese-Style
Finished in: 35 Hours

After I fully understand the story of main plot in FF7, I begin to know why this has to make a remake. First the remake itself that I learnt so far is NOT completely same story with the original, but it's side by side story like a parallel story within the main event. The remake one is more acceptable for new comer, new audience. But after you play the original one (only original without spin-off like Crisis Core), there's too many plot holes and questions. Specially on Sepiroth's part, I hope upcoming remakes project should be clearer than the original one (either it's CC Reunion, Rebirth or Ever Crisis)

Without massive spoiler the premise of story is about Mako. The discovery of this natural resource drawn directly from the planet's life force marked the dawn of a new era, and now the energy sustains the lives of people across the world. However, the Shinra Company has monopolized mako production, and in doing so established a powerful hegemony. Its influence reaching the far corners of the globe.

Cloud, a former member of Shinra's military organization, SOLDIER, joins the anti-Shinra resistance group AVALANCHE, despite caring little for their motives. During one of the group's attempts to stop the company, they learn of the return of Sephiroth, Cloud's nemesis, and that with his reemergence, the planet is in greater danger than anyone had expected.
With the fate of the world riding on their success, Cloud and his allies set out to quell this deadly threat.

✔ Love every secrets and easter eggs
✔ Additional feature really useful in common days, specially 3x speed and no random battle encounter
✔ Like the original on PS1, love characters, story and summons
❌ Dumb Lego hands are still on this port haha
Verdict: 9/10 ❤❤❤❤❤

Don't ever expect an objective review about this game from me.

Instead let me just say that it's a crime that they swapped X and O on this remaster.

They also somehow fucked up the menu, because you keep overshooting the option you want to choose.

The cheats are a pretty nice addition though, so ... hard to say which version is actually better.
