A very large improvement over the first. So many cars holy hell. Like brands from all over the world divided into different cities for you to visit each with its own theme. It's cool as hell seeing the level of detail put into just the cars descriptions and getting to compare the difference in prices between regions. Each car brands have brand specific races as well. Getting to see tons of concept cars as well to buy is cool as hell from a game in 1999. Yamauchi wanted players to have wide selection of cars to buy from. Anything inbetween cars you might already own, looking to buy or dream stuff that's never obtainable. And man the driving is heavily improved. Tons more tracks and races as well. Even if they got rid of qualifications and the economy is a little exploitable and some races the ai outright cheat by having cars over th power limit. It's still a bit improvement over the original. A really damn good time worth a try also the discs are scented like a pit lane
Dude the amount of content in this game is INSANE. This really takes everything in the first game and really revs it up to 100. The races all usually have some sort of limit so the game becomes this really fun game of trying to figure out which races to challenge in order to win new cars that work for other races that you can use to get BETTER cars and the rabbithole gets bigger and bigger. The OST also slaps as usual. Some of the races can be a bit annoying due to the fact that the AI literally uses illegal cars but that's part of the fun, probably. While this certainly isn't the best racing game on PS1 (R4, my beloved) it definitely blows the original GT out of the water tenfold. Highly recommended.
Played on PC similar to its predecessor. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc once again blew me away with the level of good graphics this game has on hand. In fact, the graphics look better in this game than the predecessor, which is saying something. The controls are improved along with the level designs of the racetracks. Also, the opening cutscene to this game is just phenomenal, which is another pro to this already masterful game in my books. Speaking of which, Get this masterful racing game on PlayStation 1, or play it on PC (I played it on https://www.retrogames.cc/psx-games/gran-turismo-2-usa-arcade-mode.html). Sony, you blew me away with this amazing racer yet again. Keep it up with Gran Turismo 3-7 on the PlayStation 2-PlayStation 5 (3 begins the PlayStation 2 era of these games).

Setting the mold of the GT series that persists to this day - odd numbered titles set the stage, and even numbered titles see how far the game can be pushed content wise. Utterly supersized in terms of cars, with some having never been seen outside the fuzzy CRT 90's confines of this game. It's a supersized game on a system that feels bereft of them, and it serves as my personal favorite of the entire franchise.
this game is everything gran turismo 1 is, and a hundred times more. thought 200 cars in the first game was impressive? this one has 600. on ps1. 9 tracks in the first game, not counting reverse layouts? this one has 27. the menus? absolute pinnacle of graphic design. the music? in the menus you get absolutely top tier jazz fusion, and in the races you get some banging 90s alternative, including stone temple pilots, garbage, and soul coughing. what are the races themselves like? well, the ai isnt great, that's a given with any gt game, but the handling is superb. this game is the blueprint that every simcade game should model itself after. just driving the car is so much fun that you completely forget how mid the ai is, youre just going around seeing what kind of lap time you can hit in each of your cars. and the events, hoo boy, there's almost too much variety here. oval tracks, high speed street circuits, purpose built race tracks including the first real track in the franchise, laguna seca, and dirt tracks are the stage on which you'll drive muscle cars, 80s japanese sports cars, exotics, hard tuned imports, race cars, and more. the lone gripe i have with this game is the manufacturer special events, the cost/reward ratio is insulting and you spend half your time in the menus buying and tuning cars for those events. but, that's the only complaint i could conjure up in my 30something days i spent playing through this again. this is without a doubt the best racing game on ps1, it's my favorite racing game of all time, and maybe my favorite game period. this game shaped who i am as a person, this game is responsible for me becoming a motorsport fan, this game is responsible for me taking automotive classes in college, hell this game is the reason i passed my drivers license test in real life on the first attempt with a perfect score. this game probably isnt gonna affect you in the same way if you play it now, but i cannot overstate how much this game means to me. perfect score.
Gran Turismo 2 surpasses its predecessor and is greatly improved on with so many more cars, races, tracks, and tuning capabilities. It’s quite insane that this is a PS1 game with the amount of detail included. Turning and handling is still rough to control, wonky AI and rolling starts are laughably bad. Menu music is great and nostalgic, however licensed race tracks are good but repetitive. Given all of this, I still go back more to the first GT.
