i like the sound of raiden's bare footsteps they go fwip fwip fwip fwip fwip fwip

Arguably THE defining artwork of the 21st century so far

I definitely have to pick up on this game later.

The best videogame sequel ever.

Hideo Kojima, YOU ARE A GENIUS!

It's incredible. Real galaxy brain shit.

Fiquei apaixonado.

you can SKATE ON THE BIG SHELL

To classify any work of art — let alone a video game — as prophetic requires some degree of willful ignorance. Most "prophetic" works of fiction merely diagnose existing societal cancers that others are too naive to identify. MGS2 is an exception; a vision from the future that is more relevant in 2020 than in 2000. That's to say nothing of the gameplay, which is both restrictive and free: the illusion of choice perfectly encapsulated through ludonarrative progression. This might well be the best game ever made.

gameplay can be tedious but the story more than makes up for that

Not much can be said about this game that hasn't been said 1000 times over the last 20 years, but it's damn near a masterpiece. A huge improvement over MGS1 in the gameplay department, which while still a bit clunky, feels so much more satisfying. Has so much to say about idol worship, propaganda, and the information age that it's crazy to think it came out when it did. I think if I played this in 2001 I would think it's the absolute peak of video games as an art form.

The "Colonel" crazy talks more than enough make up for the occasional tedium.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a keenly post-modern videogame, shedding away any of the common preconceptions and notions of the past and questioning the nature of expectations, truth and even free will. Much like fine wine, its a game that becomes more relevant with each passing year.

After at least 5 two-hour analysis videos, I finally almost understand the basic plot

i played this game when i was like 13 years old shortly after it came out and now i'm a communist who is right about absolutely everything

EXPERIENCES, PERSPECTIVE, INTERPRETATION

WE AS HUMANS ARE BUILT UPON THIS FOUNDATION, ALL WE CAN DO IS TAKE WHAT WE HAVE, TAKE WHO WE ARE AND VIEW THE WORLD AS WE CAN, ONLY YOU CAN SEE IT THE WAY YOU SEE IT AND THATS WHAT MAKES NOT ONLY LIFE BEAUTIFUL, BUT US TOO

this game has destroyed my life

Kojima truly breaks the mold with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, by making a video game masterpiece that turns being less fun than it could be into a strength instead of a weakness. I'm not sure Kojima ever again reached the level of precision he achieves here. Every seemingly innocuous detail is a laughably inspired piece of postmodern authorship that ties back into the whole of the narrative. A narrative which seems totally normal until it all of the sudden doesn't, at which point it begins discussing ongoing international conspiracies (real ones) with shocking candor and density, all the while keeping the player hooked with back to back exciting plot twists and gameplay ideas. That Kojima pulls this off while also creating a satisfying sequel to an already great game, and an emotionally powerful game in its own right, well... its all very impressive. Lack of fun boss fights and the general brevity of the gameplay put this at the bottom of the numbered MGS games for me, but its about as high a floor as I've ever seen, and I'm from New York City.

Warning: please for the love of god get V's fix for the pc port [https://github.com/VFansss/mgs2-v-s-fix] it fixes every issues and makes it the most enjoyable and fun version of the game by far.
So umm...good gameplay, goated ost, good bosses (except MGS Ray), good story with your usual kojima moments like funny poop jokes and BDSM.
This game deserves an 8/10 from the ZOE Box alone.

This game is awesome plus the special edition let's you fucking skate thats really radical 10/10
