It's a shame that this removes so many iconic moments from the original game, but it's all in service of creating a very different atmosphere. Even so, with a much darker tone, this game captures the gameplay feel of resident evil 4 so well, whilst in some ways improving on it with numerous QOL improvements and new mechanics like the great knife parry system.

I found myself driven to explore every nook and cranny of every area of the game, and it gives you a good couple of decently-sized areas to explore that become fully open to go around between several major plot beats. There's never a dull moment or confusion on what needs to be done, there's always something to do and something on your mind.

This is an outstanding achievement that only just falls short of the original; if only because that game was so forward thinking it reshaped entire sections of the industry. This won't have the same impact that game had, but it is one of the best third person shooters you'll play this year, or will have played in a long time.

the constant want and welcoming of video game remakes is probably the best argument against video games being an art form.

Anyways I haven't played, but it looks decent. They did remove Ashely armpits so the og is better.

14 hours straight later and yeah it’s perfect

Remakes with cut content don't deserve 10s.

Un juego lleno de acción como lo era el original, pero este Remake le devuelve un poco mas la esencia Survival Horror usando la fórmula del Remake del 2 y del 3. Muy bueno.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is a great game. It's incredible just how much Capcom put their whole pussy into making this game be what it is and the fact that this can be in the same ballpark as the original is commendable in it's own right. It's fun, has some genuine surprises for people who have played the original to death, and still keeps enough about the gameplay of Re4 that I can feel comfortable saying that you could go with either version and get mostly the same experience.

However I don't think this game is necessary in anyway or a game that even should exist. The original Resident Evil 4 was a lightning in a bottle game. It was a mess of many development issues, years of failed prototypes(to the point that Devil May Cry spawned from the ashes of the versions of Re4), and was being tossed around by it's entire studio on what the game should even end up as. Despite all of that, it ended up being one of the most tightly designed, well balanced experiences a video game ever had and it permanently changed the landscape of the medium.

Resident Evil 4 could not be made again. All of it's qualities were a blend of 00's B-Movie edge, cathartic violent action, tight well balanced level design, a constant flow state with forward momentum always being preserved, and ridiculous out of nowhere breaks of the main gameplay loop.

I knew this game wouldn't be Resident Evil 4, the moment I met the merchant and the game alerted me to a quest were I had to backtrack and kill some rats in the area right before. I instantly picked up that this game could not have the gull to let the player leave it's tragically redesigned areas without you being suggested and pushed towards staring at the floor again to find fucking rats. All of it's "new" elements are unnecessary to the pure arcade fun of Resident Evil, and the few genuine improvements to gameplay like parrying are limited by a durability system that only serves to stop you from having too much fun or to be completely neglected when you upgrade and find other knives.

I don't even think this game is soulless. It would be disrespectful to the polish and effort that is on display for this game. It's just that it's Resident Evil 4 but with all of the rough edges sanded off. All of this effort went into remaking one of the most influential games of all time, that gets ported every single console generation. It's not like the original Re4 was stuck on the gamecube. Capcom has made sure that the original will live on. This also isn't me trying to take the game down or act like Capcom committed a betrayal, I already came to the fact that none of the remakes were going for anything that the originals had. I just felt that this was something necessary for me to get out there because it's an undeniable feeling I have with this game. I'm sure I'll come back to this later in my life and wonder why I ever thought what I thought. For now, this is what I have to say.

Atleast the Ashley redesign is cute.

That half a star is because of no Ada campaigns

Wow just fucking WOW bravo Capcom this is how you remake an already amazing Game excites me to see a gem such as RE4 get remade and still be as good as the original

“Story of my Life”

decent but feels more like RE2/3 Remake than 4. They also fucked up ashley and salazars designs BAD. Play the original instead its leagues better

first, I think we should be making new games instead of remaking so much stuff.
second, if you're gonna remake something, remake something that could actually stand to be refreshed rather than a pristine action classic from a vaunted survival horror series.
third, if you're gonna remake a pristine action classic from a vaunted survival horror series, maybe try taking it in a different direction, emphasize the horror more for example, there's just no way you can compete with the OG.
wait this game is really good? what the fuck.

Greatest action game of all time made even better.
No U-3 fight is a bummer tho.

hid in my room and binged this is one sitting. worth

Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 were from another time. Resident Evil 3 was anemic and disappointing yet deserving of a second chance. But Resident Evil 4 is the classic that reinvented a whole genre and revitalized a series with a gameplay loop so endlessly rewarding that it still warrants a replay every few years even almost two decades later. Those first three made cases for their remakes — ones rooted in their age — but Resident Evil 4 can’t claim to be geriatric when it still suplexes most of its competition into submission. The Resident Evil 4 remake, however, is a carefully considered reimagining that more than justifies its existence by keeping the skeleton of the original and thoughtfully improving it without sacrificing the brilliant Las Plagas-ridden heart at the center of it.

I loved the original Resident Evil 4 so much. It's one of my favorite games ever made, and it is nearly perfect every sense of the word. Notice how I said nearly perfect, because there was just a few issues: the game had too much soul and I hated that Salazar wore a hat. For years I had thought if only there was a game that could solve my problems.

I lived in agony until this fateful day, when Capcom gave me exactly what I wanted. This is why I game.

Only played the demo, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Might pick up the full version if there's a sale down the line.

So after did everything that i can do with this game. I can say that this is one of the best remakes of all time, with Resident Evil for gamecube. Resident Evil 4 (2023) is, for me, a way better than the original and this is why.

Better Points:
So its kind of obvious that this game would has better graphics in compare with the original one, because we are 18 years in the future. But in the same time the graphics here are extremely consistent and bring to us a strange, but in the same time, perfect atmosphere for every part of this game.

The original one has a good atmosphere but sometimes the game just looks like a third person shooter with a war vibe and tank gameplay not like a Resident Evil. This is a way better in the Remake, they didn't cut the Island, but this area now looks more like a Resident Evil game than a war game.

The Soundtrack here is another level. Man its great, with Hi Fi Hush, Resident Evil 4 has one of the best Soundtracks of the year so far. Definitely Good.

The story is the same, but here we have characters being better enjoyed than in the original, Luis and Ashley are great examples, the first one I mentioned appears much more than in the original.

SPOILER SESSION
The boss fights, i really want to take a intire session to talk about it. Man these bosses here are great. Verdugo, Seedler, The Golden Armor, The Iron Maiden with 8 hearts are such great exemples to how do a boss, and a Secundary boss fight. Salazar is a menace in this game, his boss fight is insane.

After Finishing the game we can get three of the special guns that we get in the original. The Hand Cannon, Chigago Typewritter, and The Infinite Rocket Launcher. Unfortunately Prl 412 is not in the game. And a interesting thing, The gangster outfit is in the game and has the same interaction with Chigago Typewritter that has in the original.
END OF THE SPOILER SESSION

Bad Points:
The game in general has a good performance but if you are playing in the Ps4 or In PC, you can see some framedrops here and there.

They cut the intire U3 boss fight. I really don't know why, probably it would be the best boss fight in the Island session, but they did. U3 has the possibility to appears in the Separate Ways Dlc.

Conclusion:
This game is great, in all ways, better than the original one from 2005, and one of the best Remakes that we have in the video game industry. Capcom can do a great work when they want. 10/10 or 5/5.

I was lucky to get this a little early and I've finished my first playthrough but I'm far from done. Resident Evil sets a new standard for remakes again

I only wish I could rate it higher

nice mix of its namesake and resident evil 6, hampered by an engine that's starting to seriously show its age

doesn't feel as good to play as the original and it's soulless

Doesn't hold a candle to the original in terms of tone or character. The cutscenes have nowhere near the same style in their direction and characters like Saddler only suffer from the toned down campiness. Going with a more modern approach to Resident Evil also leads to less intense action sequences since there are not just fewer combat segments but also less enemies overall, though there's still more than plenty action to roundhouse kick during. Really excited for The Mercenaries because the new combat might be the best thing about the remake. That parry mechanic with the knife is a genuine game-changer.

Ada is completely bogged down here compared to 2 Remake and the original fourth game, her new VA doesn't seem to have any kind of fun performing her innuendos with Leon and Leon himself is still cool but not in a as sincere action-hero kinda way because of his trauma. Ashley on the other hand is a total improvement over her original version.

RE4make, just like the original, excites with a lengthy campaign that is varied to no end, little to no boring down time and a bigger focus on exploration. It fails to hit as much as the original game and yet is just a few more inspired design-decisions short of being a modern masterpiece. What they did with side characters like Luis or the bits of lore scattered around the gameworld are welcome improvements. Don't mind my complaining, because this is still pretty much the GOAT.

And yet, it had me gripped for 90% of its time during my 18h one-sitting-playthrough (as is tradition). Definitely (probably) my favorite of the modern Resident Evil games and therefore on spot #2, right behind the original, on my Resident Evil favorites list.

this is how you do a remake! the 2005 one was fantastic & one of my favorites, but it's hard to recommend it with the old style controls. everything in this was great! the graphics were beautiful, the reimagined fights were a great change. it felt so immersive the entire time. the changes to ashley were such a great QoL improvement! her parts were actually super fun instead of just purely frustrating. the island portion was still super difficult but not rage-quit inducing like the og.

it won't replace the original at all, that one is too iconic & can't be erased. but this is still an absolutely amazing game. ♥

Não existe maneira melhor de definir esse remake do que uma declaração de amor não só a fãs do original, mas também a fãs de Resident Evil como uma franquia definidora da mídia como um todo. O mais perto que a série já chegou da perfeição em cada aspecto

A fantastic update to the original. The game remixes a lot of sequences, so even familiar set pieces are fun and new. There were several times while playing that I got to a challenge and was like "oh, this is that room!", which was alwasy a blast. A few set pieces have been removed entirely, but honestly it works out for the best, given the pacing of the story.

one of the best remakes ever made, I was initially skepctical about Resident Evil 4 being remade, the original is pretty much perfect in just about anything it sets out to do and is easily available to play in every living video game system, the combat sandbox, the camera perspective, the identity and personality, it was unique and timeless especially for that time period, Capcom was at least 10 years ahead of everyone when they shipped RE4 back in 2005.

but since they were remaking RE4, let's give it an shot and see how it goes, I wans't expecting the same level of excellence the original had but oh boy did they nailed it! it's clear the amount of understanding and passion Yasuhiro Anpo's team at Capcom have for the original, everything that made the original stand out is here but essentially remixed and amped up to 11, I personally enjoyed on how much the game knows it's audience and always makes playful changes to attemp to grab veterans's expectations, it feels like an high-budget fan game in some areas and I mean that in high regard, normalize remakes that are created equal to the originals.

it also just feels great to play an game that delivers this classic PS2/game-y experience, it's not afraid to just being fun, thrilling and endlesslly replayable especially in this current video game industry's constant obcession with cinematic experiences, if you treat it like an GAME you will be rewarded and I missed that feeling.

I don't think it replaces or exceeds the original game and I think the developers also took notice of that but these two games are basically in the same level, each game has it's key differences and I honestly think that this is the best outcome if you are remaking an monumental game like this one, respect it's previous vision and try to do something different that sets it apart from that original, some remakes are 1 to 1 simply because of their aging design or limited hardware (see Metroid Zero Mission or even RE1 Remake), RE4 didn't needed something like that because the original already set an distinct standard that lots of games replicated afterwards, I am really glad they took the meaning "Remake" to it's fullest potential with this, it makes me a bit sour about Dead Space Remake in comparison.

with that said I will definitely replay this game alongside the original work for many years to come.
