An unusual concept about placing locations and characters in the correct sequence to get the scenario required by the task, for example, the queen must notice the king with his mistress, in order to then throw her off the cliff, and stuff like that, the puzzles click quickly like nuts, there are several different themes, although one of the most interesting with a vampires for some reason was used only in 2 levels,
to complete the game you need to score 51 stars out of about 53/54 max., in some levels there is a additional pod-scenario, I didn`t have time to complete it, because the last 2 levels are already too confusing "santa barbara", you will be given the opportunity create family ties to characters, and you need to make the uncle kill the mistress, who is his daughter or something like that)
I can’t blame the game for its short duration, since drawing so many funny animations is only worthy of praise, but I can scold it for a little variability, it’s not possible to complete the scenario in your own way, which makes the game quickly boring even after 2 hours.

Enjoyable, but it IS pretty short. I wouldn't say I am a particularly fast gamer and I beat this in about 2.5 hours.

Still, I really enjoyed playing what I did. I really hope the team plans to add more stories in their updates.

A great game with a really unique and interesting concept that ends right as it starts hitting its stride.

Very good game, but criminally short

Pretty fun and short game. The visuals are nice, the classic music is relaxing and the overal idea was executed very well.

It was quite fun. It was really short and mostly easy but I thought it was a great use of an evening.

Storyteller is definitely an interesting game, but I'm not really convinced by what it ends up doing. I don't really mind the short runtime, though I do feel like it's a little undercooked - I only ever had to really think about 10 of the 51 stages. The game essentially asks the player to reproduce and rearrange tropes in a certain way, or as the developer put it "play with the common sense and instincts you bring from outside videogames." I want to highlight that comment because "common sense" here means mostly knowledge of tired (hetero-)normative tropes and concepts.

In other words: Storyteller reproduces and lets you reproduce boring and vain fairytale tropes in search of something fun to salvage from them. It rarely succeeds and only lays bare how... boring they actually are. You're never asked to re-think tropes, only to rearrange them. And I think that's the key to why I don't vibe with this game - it's a missed opportunity that made the whole experience really dull overall. There's a lot of potential for deconstruction in the concept, but Storyteller never manages to break free from the tropes it cemented into its gameplay system.

Storyteller is an open-ended puzzle game where you are given a title of a story and you must use the given elements like characters and scenarios to fulfill that title. The game is overall on the easier side but doesn't hesitate to ratchet up the difficulty when some scenarios allow for a multitude of outcomes. I was thoroughly impressed at the variety in puzzles and how versatile one background tile could be in telling a story beat. The common complaint with this title will be its length. It has about 50 excellent levels, and some have optional hidden objectives as well as a few achievements in the mix. I do wish there was more here, either that all of the levels had hidden objectives or that there was a sense of more levels in the future. For now, it's a charming well-crafted puzzle game that begs for DLC chapters as soon as it can.

The last few puzzles of the game were really fun, but the game is just too short and lacks a lot of content. If this game had more content the rating would be significantly higher but sadly it just feels too short for it to be worth the price.

There's like, 2 engaging and actually well thought out puzzles in this entire game. There are other 5 which are difficult because "hey did you know this super ridiculous scenario which we purposely offuscated from you can happen??", and the rest is so easy even a 5 year old would have no problem solving.

Why are most indie puzzle games so fucking pointless jesus fucking christ.

somehow the demo is more interesting lol

Really cute concept, but it's quite short to justify the price imo

Juego corto pero muy interesante. Me ha gustado mucho el estilo gráfico.

I was so looking forward to this, the idea of piecing together characters and scenes to create plot was a great one. Bought on release and about an hour later I'm left staring at the end credits already thinking "is that it? It's already 100% completed?"

Seriously was expecting a little bit more here, be it some slightly more difficult puzzles or a bit more freeform creativity to some of the solutions. As it stands there really just isn't enough here to warrant a full purchase. I'm deeply disappointed.

[DID NOT COMPLETE - played about 30 minutes]

This didn't click with me at all. Fun idea for a game but I found the game logic frustrating and the repetitiveness of the puzzles meant it wasn't very fun to experiment with the various possible scenarios.

I loved it but it was waaaay too short.

This is one of those indie games that I've been waiting for since the demo version was released. And so, the release took place quite recently, I passed the game and was very happy, but there are disadvantages (

The game provides an unusual gameplay that is based on puzzles and honestly they are quite easy, stupid only over the last levels. It's short and I passed it in an hour and a half, that's what really upset me. I would like more, but I understand that even at this scale the game was difficult to make. Draw everything, all animations.

In general, about the game itself, you have to make fairy-tale stories, someone has to poison the king, kill the duke or cheat on his wife. It was quite interesting to make up all these stories, but it seemed to me that the most interesting thing was with the werewolf and the Duke and Duchess. The vampire stories weren't bad either.

In general, I am glad and enjoyed it for an hour and a half, the expectations were met, so to speak, but again a huge minus that it is short and in the end they have already completely bent that it is necessary to kill the father of her child who is his brother. Rough.

Storyteller is a fun concept that is at its best when it tries to challenge the most common logic, but it does it far too rarely and doesn't incentivize much experimentation.

At first look most stories are simple and you have to do some basic stuff to get it to happen, the animations and reactions from the characters are cute and interesting, but as I said it is better when the unexpected happens, I will avoid spoilers but some interactions are really funny.

While playing normally you'll stumble upon one or other funny scene, but the achievements on Steam are something that should have been integrated more with the game, weird situations like that are fun to see but you'll never glimpse that if you just complete the book and bonus titles. It is a nice playground, but there is little push or freedom to make you explore more crazy narratives.

A puzzle game with a great idea, purely focused on logic. It is true that some parts can be repetitive, but it is very fun and ends up leaving you wanting more partly because of its scarcity, but mostly because of how well executed it is.

Fun puzzle game with a charming fairytale book-style. However with only 51 short levels (plus bonus challenges) it left me hungry for more.

This is a brilliant game that isn't quite as fully-featured as I want it to be - it's short and easy, with fewer optional challenges than I'd like, and the few times it gets challenging are overly fiddly.

Still, the core mechanic is magical and I'm relieved that it came out at all. I first saw Storyteller at a local indie game event roughly a decade ago, when I was in university, the Toronto indie scene was amazingly vibrant and the future seemed limitless. It was one of probably 6 or so games that blew me away and I was bummed when 5 years later I realized it had never come out. I couldn't believe it when 5 years after that it popped up as a Steam demo, and it's still wild to me that I actually get to play the complete game. Despite whatever small misgivings I have about it, it's a privilege that it exists and it's probably worth your time too.

If you played the demo, the game does not make a good case for itself. I like the game, genuinely, but as soon as you get all these scenes and characters, the game just kinda ends. If this was on game pass or ps+, I definitely think it's worth checking out, but as a full release alongside other indie games? It's a real tough sell.

finished it in around an hour and a half (while stopping to eat dinner).
it's pretty cute and fun to figure out, but definitely not hard. which is not a bad thing! you can't expect all puzzle games to wreck your brain.
i'd say this is a good game for people who don't often play and just want something to do in an off-day, or a group of friends hanging out and playing it together.
it's way too expensive for what it lasts, though.

Clever, well-designed puzzle game but sorta pricey for the ~80min playtime.
