Thinking about the time I was playing this when I was 11 on Xbox Live and I was talking with a group of random guys who were so excited that I was a girl (I doubt they knew I was 11) and then one of them asked if they could ask me something and I said sure and he asked "How come girls don't like me?" and I took a second and then I said "Because you're playing Left 4 Dead 2" and then everyone in the party started screaming and then he disconnected.

without mods 4/5 with mods 6/5

i would give this a 2/5 if it didn't let me play as heather mason bombing hatsune miku to death

A fun co-op shooter. It can be very chaotic and challenging but getting to the end of a campaign feels very satisfying to do. The characters are very likeable and bounce off of each other very well. The different zombie types add more variation to the usual hordes of enemies. Different guns and melee weapons are fun to experiment with. My only real complaint is that campaigns can be a bit long which isn't ideal as you want the people playing with you to stay engaged and not get bored.

The only thing to unseat Halo 3 from being my friend and I's daily driver. We were eching our way through each level on Extreme mode by glitching into windows or climbing up into trees, with our thumb on the Director AI's pulse.

L4D2 is one of my most-played games, and something I come back to all the time with my Sunday night group. I can't claim mastery since we basically only play on Easy or Normal, but I'm at least very, very, very, very, very familiar with the core maps. It tends to be my Sunday night group's gold standard for games, and it's the title we come back to more often than anything else.

Admittedly, I don't think there's much more the game has to offer for me, at least from a vanilla experience. I'll play it with friends and family, because I like spending time with friends and family, but I'd generally be happier playing something else. Not an indictment on L4D2 (goodness knows I haven't played everything the game has to offer), just where I'm at.

But it's my group's gold standard for a reason. Sometimes we just need a simple, arcade-y co-op experience to jump into, and L4D2 has us covered. L4D2 isn't without strategy, far from it, and the randomization element of the horde encounters means there's generally a different angle to approach each run of a map. I like a lot of what L4D2 offers over the original game mechanically: I am basically useless if my secondary weapon is a handgun instead of a melee weapon, crescendo events are a lot more dynamic and varied compared to the first game, the new Special Infected are... annoying, but they're doing their job of keeping you on your toes... and I like all of the new maps, especially Hard Rain. I also like the cast and Southern setting way more than the first game's New England offerings, but that's more down to taste.

awesome game & atmosphere and even more awesome mods

Creo que es un juego que jamás envejece, tanto por los mods como por la jugabilidad infinitamente infinita
juegazo, para el año en el que salió, sin contar los cambios y actualizaciones, una joya.

Friends and mods, just go for it

Went to bed one day, woke up and the next thing I knew was that the entire steam workshop for this thing was flooded with boobs, I have no idea what kind of black ass magic, hoo-doo voo-doo those modding motherfuckers have cast down onto my beloved coach (And others). But I thank them.

I have ONLY played this in co-op and I only have 20 hours in it.

I always thought that Left4Dead just HAD to be overrated in some way, because how could a worse version of the Call of Duty horde mode be good- but that's the thing, this isn't that- this is better than I could've ever imagined. Somehow this game is good. I don't really get it, but here we are.

I've always considered Left 4 Dead 2 a general improvement over the original, but tbf it's more of an expansion pack than a sequel. And if you really break it down, while all the new content and features are great and well thought-out, they're not essential for the gameplay.

The original game created a formula that worked incredibly well. Every weapon and enemy felt unique and there was a gentle balance. If you really think about it, the new weapons here are mostly alterations of the old weapons.

For example, I love AK-47, but it's just a slightly slower and more powerful version of the M4 from the original, which in itself was a faster and more accurate version of the UZI. But this game also adds another submachine gun as an alteration for the UZI. In the end, while these new weapons are fun, they don't really add anything substantial to the game. The M4 was a massive upgrade for the UZI, but these altered weapons are just flavors of the same.

The melee weapons are fun and can be very useful to break through large crowds when combined with adrenaline, but they kinda take away from the survival aspect. Worth remembering that the original game was kinda suspenseful. I jumped into the single player (which is how I first experienced the game back in 2008) for a bit today, and was feeling a little vulnerable because I knew I couldn't count on the AI companions. You can forget about the power fantasy of slashing through hundreds of zombies with a samurai sword. A single smoker or hunter could take you out single-handedly, let alone a tank.

But each special zombie there had a purpose:
1. A Smoker would pull you away from your group and incapacitate you.
2. If a Hunter ambushed you while you're on a ledge, he could push the companion(s) next to you off of it, possibly killing all of you.
3. The Tank presented a threat that necessitated cooperation from the entire group.
4. Kinda same with the Witch, except it was more about the group consciousness (each member following the right conduct individually) than a direct cooperation.

The new enemies of Left 4 Dead 2 are kinda pointless:
1. The Jockey is basically a slower Smoker.
2. The Charger is almost indistinguishable from the Smoker. Functions exactly the same, except he has to come closer for the attack.
3. The Spitter is probably the one thing I hate about Left 4 Dead 2. She is pretty much useless if encountered alone, but if she attacks you while you're surrounded, you basically have zero ways to avoid death. In addition, she functions as this game's anti-cheat, attacking anyone who manages to find a place that's inaccessible for the zombies, even if her spit technically shouldn't be able to reach that place either. But to me and my friends finding those places was part of the fun. It added an exploratory element to survival maps.

Finally, the original had a very strong and coherent atmosphere that consistently permeated everything, from the levels to the menus and the general art direction. The game intentionally evoked grindhouse zombie movie vibes, and this vision was followed with the character design, visual effects (film grain) and the amazing loading screens. I have to say, Left 4 Dead 2's art direction does not feel as strong. While they continue the same theme, setting the game mostly in daylight takes away from that vibe, as most zombie movies (and horror movies in general) heavily rely on darkness. Well, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead didn't, but this game also doesn't make introspective statements on consumerism, class inequality or military-industrial complex like those movies did. So it ends up feeling more "normal". In addition, as much as I appreciate the import of the old campaigns and suvival maps here, their presence further dilutes the atmosphere of this game. Perhaps a better idea would've been to leave L4D2 alone and make another edition that would combine 1 and 2, and give it away for free to the owners of the second game.

All that said, obviously I love Left 4 Dead 2 and have played it way more than the original. Most of the new content, although very unnecessary, is a lot of fun, and the addition of the Steam Workshop makes life so much easier (back in the day me and my friends used to download custom maps manually from l4dmaps.com, and I can no longer find some of our most-played maps there). But despite all the objective improvements in the sequel, I've always had stronger feelings towards the first game, and I believe it's not just nostalgia. Left 4 Dead represented a unique and coherent vision that was innovative for the time. Left 4 Dead 2 meanwhile ends up feeling like an optional content pack that you wouldn't be missing out on if you skipped. Although, if it was an expansion pack, it would've been an amazing one.

I want to play it more often but I got into a Versus game once with randoms and got flamed and kicked out of the game so I just dont play it that often anymore

It was still one of the cornerstones of my childhood though

"L4D2" shines as a straightforward, accessible multiplayer experience, offering particular enjoyment when teamed up with friends. The simplicity of its gameplay, coupled with thoughtfully designed zombies that introduce various tactical challenges, and a balanced difficulty on the 'Hard' setting, underpin its enduring appeal. While its core mechanics might seem somewhat basic compared to modern offerings, and solo play may not provide the same enjoyment as group sessions, its nuanced enemy and weapon design ensure engagement across varied playstyles. Even though aspects feel a bit dated, the experience, especially with friends, merits a solid 3/5 rating.

This is game 24/71 of my backlog.
Multiple people told me not to bother playing l4d1, because l4d2 is Just It but better. After playing l4d2, i can confidently say that they're absolutely right lmao. I still think l4d1 has it's merit, and is Just a completely different game to l4d2, but like DAMN this game is such an improvement, there's WAY more replayability (although, i really don't Care too much for the mutations), more modes, more special infected. It's Just l4d, but more. The gibbing is incredible as well, If shooting in the First game Felt amazing, in this game it's Wonderful.

I've gotta say, replaying the First game's maps i thought It was gonna be a drag, but Nah, pretty fun still.

Weirdly enough though, even with How Fun i thought the games were, i'm here thinking "damn, i don't wanna play that again", which feels weird considering these are more or less meant to be replayable games. Can't do much about that though. This game is great, have Fun with it.

good game but my friends forced me to download anime skins :|

la historia de como goro majima, alucard, kos-mos y black frost se enfrentaron al apocalipsis zombi

i love zombies and ellis is trans and uses she/her

Os mods desse jogo são incríveis, ver o tank correndo na sua direção com skin do Sion e com o áudio de tsundere deixando um rastro de arco-íris é impagável.

matar zombies usando a los personajes de persona con armas de hello kitty es toda una experiencia

Relatively exciting co-op shooting game but all the sections where the horde just busts out like 85 zombies running at extrem hihg speed only ever stressed me out. It felt like some kind of gaming sugar rush that I wanted to stop.

Peak co-op zombies gaming here.

Left 4 dead 2 was arguably just as amazing as the first game if not better. It changed a lot of things while also delivering the same experience in a new way. There's no doubt LFD2 has left a huge impact on the game industry or just pop culture with its influence of game design, enemy design and countless memes that went around the internet at the time.

Basically, LFD2 is a first-person co-op shooter game set in a zombie apocalypse, It has horror, humor and action segments. The campaign mode can be played co-op or single player with AI and involves you traveling from safe room to safe room in cities, woods, suburbs and more. The infected run at full speed and swarm you fast so it's best to be on your toes constantly and watch out for different infected types. The different zombie types are all unique and actually fun to traverse and deal with. The Tank, hunter, smoker bloater and witch all return as special infected but this time we see a few new enemies like the charger, the spitter, the jockey and the wandering witch which are basically new versions of the tank, boomer, hunter and witch but act a bit differently. The different levels of the game all act like the continuation of the same story of survivors getting from point A to point B with them having their own unique movie poster and fun end credits that calls to your gamer tags as the actors playing the 4 main characters (just like LFD1). The characters Ellis, Nick, Coach and Rochelle are all unique and fun to get to know as you play and have very different personalities than the characters in 1. The voice acting for the cast is pretty well done all around, along with an incredibly memorable sound design I still remember to this day. There is a story to follow here that continues from LFD1s story and leads into "the Passing" which connects to the DLC from 1 "the sacrifice". Like 1, A lot of the replay ability comes from the co-op and Verses modes where you face other players. Now we have modes like survival, scavenge, verses survival and more. This game also changed the way the game flow works. I’d say camping is significantly harder to do in this game. There are a bunch more weapons like the chain saw or ninja sword and a bunch of new guns like the grenade launcher and different rife and machine gun variants, honestly too much to talk about here. They also added the entire first game as DLC so you don’t really need to play the first one at all because everything is here for you. With all the added weapons and enemies this dlc feels like a soft remake or remaster of 1 because of the changes but all and all LFD1 or 2 are fantastic games. Something about classic more simple games feel better and more fun looking back but I know if you didn't grow up with these they probably come off as old as hell but to me they still hold up.

10/10

It’s literally the perfect co-op game. You can do so much for your teammates, you can screw them over, you can save them, you can go nuts with an auto shotgun and murder them.

I guess the zombie killing part is good too, tons of enemy variation and AI that can be pretty cruel at times.

Oh and the voice acting and dialogue is top of the line, this game has that Valve dialogue charm where every character exchange is full of charm and is a joy to listen to. You really get attached to the survivors and every stay voice line is a fun glimpse into their character.

The gameplay is snappy. It’s hard to describe but it really just allows a good player to be good. You can coordinate with your team and avoid taking pretty much any damage. There’s a good variety of weapons as well that are all fun to use. Zombies blow up into bits or fall to pieces when you hit them with heavy caliber firearms.

The game utilizes amazing sound design and musical cues to warn players and to keep them listening. Each special has their little theme that plays whenever they spawn or are creeping around.

The steam workshop brings this game up from a 4.5 to a 5, no question. You want Coach to be Master Chief? Now he is. You want all the weapons to use reloads ripped from Modern Warfare 2? Now they are. You want custom campaigns that are either masterpieces or balanced so horribly you will have a blast going through them? It’s all there

Play this. Please. Play this with me. I will literally play this whenever it’s the best game ever made.
