not the most exciting "game" in terms of gameplay but the concept keeps you in it and it has a cool ending.

Very interesting and fun game. The extrapolation of two simple mechanics were amazing and the intertwining of an "innocent" game and its satanic tendencies was well done. Would recommend but its quite short.

4th wall breaks and unique mechanics make this game from the dev of The Hex and Inscryption a must play as well.

kinda one trick with its puzzles and stories but. its still fun and the secret ending is great

Lucifer himself made a game about ponies, butterflies and kiling Jesus. Biblical accurate.

great meta adventure, loved it as a precursor for whats to come in future versions of daniel mullins games (like inscryption)

Loved the ideas, found some of the gameplay frustrating. Clearly the ideas here are more fully developed in Inscryption, which has a gameplay loop that on its own is fantastic, while the pony jumping here is at best neutral, often annoying.

After playing Inscryption a couple years ago, and now this, I am very excited for how Pony Island 2 will turn out.

I'll probably enjoy this game even more after some time, just like Inscryption.

I didn't enjoy the core mechanics and didn't find the "YOURE IN HELL WAHH" plot interesting. Has weird pacing and stretches its concept very thin, despite its short runtime.

Thank god the messages wern't real. I put some real bad shit down

This game breaks the fourth wall in a way that I've never seen before. Yes: I panicked.

A fun experience that subverts expectations and messes with the player in some fun and unique ways. If you want to experience everything you'll really have to go out of your way to do so, and how to do so is not very obvious at times. Cool art, okay gameplay that serves its purpose well enough, and a pretty nice soundtrack.

who knew satan loved ponies so much

Great use of pushing the 4th wall here.

Ehhhh, aside from its premise there really isn't much here. The gameplay is never engaging (which is fine if the game had something else going for it) but there's very little that held my interest past the first 20 minutes or so.

Its only a bit over 2 hours so at least it doesn't overstay its welcome. But without any real positives to speak of, its still longer than what feels worth playing.

A bit of a one trick pony (hah). The fourth wall breaking and meta narrative are very fun, but the whole game leans on it, there is no quality to the actual text.

Although this game is quite similar to the others from this creator, I still enjoyed the journey and watching for the wild "it's not what it seems" twists. The final section builds momentum in a great way for a very satisfying conclusion. My one critique is that it feels a bit one-note mechanically, so it can drag a bit in the middle, but for a two-hour experience, I really can't complain. Still well-worth the time spent.

"is this ludonarrative sonnance or what?" I say as my 3 neurons cheer me on

So good! Could use more Ponies tho

If game named Pony Island why did it ask me to insert my soul

Maybe its my mistake that I played this after inscryption but it just felt like a less fledged out thing and did not have any gameplay hooks that complemented the insane story and gameplay non-loop

Powerful, engaging, clever: not yet the masterpiece that is Inscryption but a very strong and unique start.

not killing jesus was unironically the hardest part

Daniel Mullins is a very smart game developer and writer and this is one of his first exploits as a designer. You can definitely see the wear and tear of his initial attempt at this kind of game, it doesn't show the polish in gameplay and narrative that The Hex and Inscryption show, but it's definitely a fun and short little experience that I could see myself returning to again in the future.

Decent, but probably would of been better to play before I played Inscryption. Inscryption honestly improves on everything Pony Island sets out to achieve.

For personal reference more than anything else.

First full playthrough of this game after an attempt about 8 years ago.

This was alright, the main pony gameplay was kind of fun if a little repetitive at times. I quite liked the puzzles as well. The story wasn't particularly interesting and it felt a bit 'been there, done that', I saw a lot of the 'cute or child-friendly looking thing that's actually evil and scary' growing up and this one going the satanic route just feels one step further into generic territory. I did really like the section with Asmodeus though, the fake steam messages absolutely got me and made me check before I got to the ones that would have made the fact they were fake incredibly clear, it did kind of freak me out which was good. I was also surprised that Hopeless Soul wasn't evil as I really thought they would be, so that felt quite nice and subversive. In all honesty though I think that outside of the Asmodeus section, I was having the best time with the game when it was doing the happy and colourful bullshit with Louey which feels like it kind of defeats the point of the game. I think there may be more under the surface to this game in terms of its story and what its trying to say, but what I played felt messy, shallow and relying too hard on shock value. So I don't exactly care to look it up or whatever. The music was really good though and I was a fan of the general aesthetic of the game.

Its not a bad game and I don't regret my time with it, but I don't really have much to say about it either nor do I think it will really stay in my mind. Still though, it was an alright game.
