Great Music, addictive gameplay and even some callbacks for those who played the first two Ys games and/or Origins. It may never reach its full potential, and the ending came across as abrupt, but even an "okay" Ys game is a very good time indeed.

Repetitive, Broken, Mind-numbing, Awful.

Reminded me more of Virtua Cop than Time Crisis or House of the Dead, the biggest problem with this game is that the levels are just waaaaaaay too long. Rail shooters should be fast-paced frantic affairs but every level in this game stops you way too many times, and when you consider the game is very, very easy it just makes this game a slog to finish, even if its only about 2-3 hours long. The frequent QTEs don't really add anything to the game other than being an annoyance and you can just tell the writers thought they were being really, really funny. It does feel really polished which is surprising but the levels themselves are so boring that I can't really recommend it unless you are desperate for light-gun options.

A game this good looking shouldn't be this bad, especially for 1995. Play it for the aesthetics then move onto something actually worth your time.

An excellent and surprisingly fair beat-em-up, it's clear Capcom knew what they were doing at this point. Great fun and a real shame its been abandoned in license limbo.

Sam Neill kills saves the dinos with his machine gun tranquilizer gun! What a monster hero!

🎶Succeed and rest, you aaaaaare THE BEST! 🎶

The contrarians favorite Metal Slug game. I'm honestly surprised I never heard of this game until picking it at random and I think anyone who enjoys Metal Slug owes it to themselves to play this at some point. Shame about the absence of any sort of story but I imagine Irems withdrawal from making video games hindered development. Very, very good fun.

Played this during a trip to Joypolis in 2020. There isn't much skill here as its more of a theme park attraction than anything else. I did get first place however so contrary to popular belief it is actually me who is the fastest thing alive.

Was a fun game until about round 6 where it just becomes way too cruel. Not really even the fun sort of hard from that point, and just felt like the developers were showing off just how many sprites they could put on the screen at once at the expense of playability. Unfortunate really.

Despite the issues I had with it, I can't deny the game has a stellar presentation, with some great music and animated scenes being really quite impressive. The remake is clearly the definitive way to experience the story, but I enjoyed my time with this original vision regardless of its faults.

The vertical screen orientation really hurts this game. It's fine on the vertical levels obviously, but it feels really cramped on the horizontal sprints. NES version definitely feels more fair in comparison.

EDIT: Turns out I played the World version, the Japanese version of the game is even better. This game is so, so good.

Its like Streets of Rage 2 but jankier and more "hardcore". Has style for days, I loved the aesthetics, designs and music. Lots of fun. It turns out a lot of the staff here went on to go work at Nazca, I'm not surprised in the least.

Bad Street Brawler is apt. This game has big Drongo energy.

If you were to ask someone what a beat em' up is, they'd probably describe Final Fight 2. Everything that makes a beat em' up a beat em' up is technically here, and its at least competently made, but it lacks excitement, the thrill that made the first Final Fight so memorable. Its just so mediocre that I kinda wish it was a bit jankier, at least then there would be something to talk about...
